OK, but this *still* isn't what I was suggesting, which was a list of films with nanotechnology themes. sound.photosynthesis.com are just listing the stuff that they sell. If they don't sell it, it ain't listed. I can think of several movies off the top of my head that explore themes that previously seemed only like fanciful fiction, but with nanotech become quite plausible realities. Just look at Zardoz, for instance: you've got mild transhumanism, life extension, machine intelligence (even machine vanity! :), human augmentation, etc. I think this would be a good tool for people because they could rent the movies from the list to explore the issues in an entertaining way. I once took a philosophy class as an undergrad (OK, it was to fulfill a lib. ed. requirement!) called "philosophy in fantasy and science fiction". They explored variously philosophical ideas in the context of issues raised by short stories, novels, films, etc. Now normally you would *not* be able to get this crowd of people to talk about what it means to have a "self", but in the context of a sci-fi film like blade runner, they'll do it! I think a resource like this would be helpful to getting people to consider these ideas as a possible reality and not just as fiction. -- Rich - -- Legalize Adulthood! ``Ain't it funny that they all fire the pistol, at the wrong end of the race?''--PDBT legalize@xmission.com - - To unsubscribe from associates, send an email to "majordomo@xmission.com" with "unsubscribe associates" in the body of the message.
