Here is the plain text. - --------- Yesterday Anticipating the Wasatch Mountain Sunrise through Sardine Canyon Little Sam quickly dressed in his Kilamanjaro coat and Widder heated vest. Dad had told him it would be pretty cool temperatures riding the big K1200LT before sunrise through the high mountains during autumn. Skipping breakfast was not his regular morning fare, but when Sam or Max go with Dad on one of the early morning rides they always stop and have a mountain feast at a small local cafe, like the Denim Dinner or the Wagon Wheel. This morning Sam and Dad rolled out of the drive and slipped through the heart of Salt Lake City to pick up the Express way North to get past Ogden the quickest shortest route. Riding along side the Great Salt Lake near Willard Bay the speed really picks up to 80 mph on the GPS and almost 90 on the speedometer. Big Red just floats along with Sam warm, tucked in behind Dad. Sam truly enjoys the western books on tape that he always gets to listen on trips. They brought six tapes today but he thinks it's only going to be a one maybe two-tape ride if Dad doesn't listen to the BYU football game on the way home tonight. Sam doesn't care he's snug and warm chewing his Big Red gum, so he won't fall asleep, behind Dad. The turn toward Brigham City leads them straight into the early morning wash of light making squinting a must even with the tinted face shield on their full coverage helmets. Through the signal at the base of the mountain, up and round to the left, the right, the left they lean. Blazes. Full frontal assault of High Mountain sunrise. Direct hit in the eyes. Squint, slow down. Yes, slow down as they approach Mantua, home of the Robocop from Hell. Mantua, such a quaint, beautiful burg nestled in a mountain bowl flowing with crimson, oranges and yellows as a child would paint. All the colors in plentiful abundance mixed in large splotches all surrounding the small crystal blue lake directly in the middle near the white board homes and green trees. Hey, Robocop lives here, beware, 2 to 3 over will be costly. Skirting the edge of town climbing higher and higher for mile after mile seeing the flash of brilliant reds dancing among the citrus oranges and lemon yellows all tinged with flickering silver scales nestled among the deep green of the Aspen leaves. The cool, no, crisp morning High Mountain air that so gently waves their silver bottomed leaves on the western slopes catching the sunrise brilliance. Dad and Sam share a moment in time in a place unique in the universe. That helps bind father and son, even a family. A Time together, a Time not to be forgotten in latter years. The time is nearing for sustenance for Sam's eleven-year-old tummy. Sour lemon drops and Big Red gum can only hold off the cravings for fluffy pancakes smothered in mountain grown berry syrup and thick strips of crisp bacon for so long. As they roll through Logan, home of Utah State University, they find most lanes of the main highway through town limited to one lane. The other lanes are used for a marathon race today. Still they move North smoothly to the waning edge of town. Sam wonders how much further till Dad points ahead and gently says through the intercom that the next pass, just ahead, only 20 or so miles, to the turn off that leads up into a still higher canyon to the camp site of their friends. They make the turn riding past small homes and log houses, some nestled near the stream where the Brookies and Rainbows live. They are very fine eats, fresh pan fried. But, not today, today, they find their friends camped right next to the stream with a blazing fire that matches the warm welcome of camaraderie for their fellow club members, The Beehive Beemers. **************************************************************** The Beehive Beemers Internet Mailing List http://www.beehive-beemers.org **************************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Sep 1999 17:01:22 -0600 From: Gavin Wallace Subject: BB: Hwy 35 Jeb: We hit a dirt/gravel section on Hwy 35 to Hanna, but only about a half mile of it. I came to the conclusion that I was voted into this office by a majority of the members last December. To thouse of you who are not happy with what I have done this year, you are going to have to vote me out of office. I am going to run for reelection! Therefore I exten a challenge to those of you who are complaing. Run against me! So stop your behind the scene damage to the club. Stop your bitching and complaining andtale me out of office. Thane and I have a lot to accomplish over the next three meetings including new Bylaws and new Articles of Incorporation. We have to decide how we are going to publish the Stinger in years to come, paper or electronic. We need to determine how the costs will be supported in the future. I am looking to seeing all of you at the Chuck A Rama on South Highland on Oct 9th, then again at the Golden Corral in Layton on November 13th and finally at our Christmas lunch and elections on December 11th. So to those of you who are not happy, stop your complaining and bitching, get out and show me (us all) that you are up to the task of making this a better club! Beat me in the elections. In 2000 your actions can speak louder than your complaining in 1999 and based on the amount of complaints in 1999 if you win we are in for one hell of a busy year in 2000! Left Missoula, Mt. this morning in 32 degree weather. Brrrrrrrr! It was the last leg of a 1600 mile, 7 day trip. I was glad to be home, until I starting receiving my e-mail. 125 pieces in the last 7 days! It wouldn't have been so bad except for all the crap from the BB's list. Is it really important to know everyone's every move and thoughts. I don't think so. And the bitching you acknowledge is certainly unwarranted. We are all grown ups with our own decision making processes. If you aren't happy with a planned ride, DON'T GO! Really quite simple. You have done a great job! Hope you are able to continue next year. Brian BTW, great job on the flat track races for motorcycle week also!
