It's coming on. It's getting to be that time-of-the-year. The WANDERLUST is setting in. Time to tour! The other day, when the weather was so nice, I was riding from one errand to another on the RT. I was riding south on 215 and had to work very hard to take my exit. I had this almost-irresistible urge to smell the Russian Olives blooming along the rivers of So. UT. I had credit cards - what more did I need? We're getting to that time of year when my wife and I trade off on our free time alone. In the winter, I am at her disposal for child care while she goes out to watch movies, etc. As the riding season sets in toward the end of May, we toggle our rolls - now it's my turn to take that evening ride after work, or head to points unplanned for the weekend. It's funny how this stuff gets into your blood. I get physically antsy if I don't get to ride for a couple of weeks. And at times like this, when the season's are changing, I get down-right surly if I don't get to ride. I was planning on going to the Los Alamos lunch over Memorial Day weekend (I intend to turn 35 (May 27) on the road) but they canceled it. Oh well, I'll contrive an excuse of some sort. There, I feel better. Working on the Stinger - it's running about a week late - work deadlines keeping it from being done sooner. Thanks for your patience. I've only got one month's worth of articles left after April's edition. Anyone want to save the rest of the club from reading my writing? Any kind of ride report, product review. The sample above should show you what your in for if I have to write this stuff myself - you've been warned. She called me on Friday to let me know the City Council had taken official action at their Tuesday meeting regarding the alcohol use permit needed for beer consumption on the fairgrounds. She is sending me official notice of the council's action so that I can then pursue the necessary State permit. She agreed that it may not be necessary, but that it's better to have it and not need it than vice versa. She also said that storing the extra kegs in the walk-in cooler at the Flying M would be no problem. She gave me the name of a local band with which I will make contact, and said she'd look for some local talent for Friday night that would perform in exchange for us "passing the hat." BTW, she sounded very understanding of our need to generate revenue via beer sales to pay for entertainment and/or defray meal expenses. Didn't sound to me like we'll have any problem with local merchants being resentful. Also, she didn't think we'd have any problem with locals crashing our party, kids or adults, and said she has a couple of good friends there in law enforcement who would be glad to help keep an eye on things just in case. Speaking of meals, she confirmed the $14 price on the dinner that apparently will be provided by the Cowboy Smoke House. Sounds like a great dinner, complete with the open pit barbeque on the grounds. She also said that the one breakfast should come in under $5, but in light of the $ we'll be spending on meals, she lobbied the City Council to reduce the fairgrounds rental from $450 to $300 total, or three days for the price of two. Still, it seems that $19 of our $22/$25 going for meals doesn't leave much for other expenses. I told her that some of us hoped to get down in the next few weeks for another visit, and that we'd let her know in advance. Just put my re-conditioned heads back on, so it's time to ride. Also, that you were so lucky in that the manager did not recognize you from last summer, when we were thrown out of the place after you did what you did. Of course, you did have all you clothes on this time and they may have been thrown off --lost track of your face-- by the number of people that were present when that happened-- especially with all those blue uniforms around..... Anyway, I'm glad you have restored us into the proprietor's good graces. And yes, the new tattoo is doing nicely. I'm thinking of setting up a booth at the RR and charge $1.00 per person to take a peek. Females would, of course, be no charge. Want to be my carny hawker and sell tickets for me?? OK, OK. I should know by now that vagaries are not tolerated on the list.:-) Let's make it Thursday! This gives me a couple of more days to finish it and get it printed - not to mention that I'm probably going to play hooky on Tuesday and take a long ride.
