I think if Xander really did feel that way on *any* level he wouldn't have been going so far out of his way to sort of make up for his behavior in the tag. If that's what he really felt then he could have used the whole thing to maintain a little distance from her. I think he's just a nice guy who loves his friend -- even though he isn't *in* love with her. And, since he *does* remember what happened and the way he behaved, he probably feels like vermin for treating Willow the way he did. So he was trying to make up for it a bit without letting them know that he really does remember. He was also in a show with Tom Bosley about priests being amateur sleuths. The show was I believe Father Brown Mysteries. Would it not be nice to bring him onto the show as the lawyer Hart. Lets face it with all the bizarre murders and vampires running around the Master could use a lawyer to get a restraining order against Buffy. Plus he could defend all the villians Buffy captures. I just think he is a very underrated actor who deserves his own show. I would love to see WB continue The Paper Chase with Hart as a law professor. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 09 Apr 1997 00:45:21 GMT From: flagg@wwa.com (Flagg) Subject: Re: BUFFY: Hyenas On Tue, 8 Apr 1997 17:20:59 -0400 (EDT), you wrote: > Doesn't the Bronze seem like an adult nightclub??? Considering this plus what happened to the science teacher in the mantis episode, maybe Buffy should wear a warning label: "Warning to all teachers: Being nice to me can be hazardous to your health, and can result in your death in a particularly gruesome manner". The next time we see a teacher getting along well with Buffy, look out; he's doomed. Unless the writers pull a switch, now that they've set us up; teacher is nice to Buffy, seems to get killed immediately, but actually survived and saves the day at the end. I noticed one line in "The Pack" which is either a very obscure in- joke, or just a coincidence: when the hyena-teens describe Herbert the piglet as being "Crunchy". In the cartoon movie "Charlotte's Web", Charlotte the spider saves a little pig by spinning webs with various good descriptions of him: "Some pig", "Radiant", etc. One suggested description of the pig that is rejected, because it will give the wrong idea, is "Crunchy". It's set up as a separate list, so what you have to do is uns*bscribe from buffy (the main list where posts drop as soon as they're posted). To do that, send email to majordomo@xmission.com. In the body of your email put uns*bscribe buffy (NOTE: Of course, spell it out properly. Majordomo coughed on this post.) You should get a confirmation on that. When you do, send email to majordomo@xmission and put s*bscribe buffy-digest in the body of your email. You'll have to go through the same confirmation procedures you went through when you first signed on. Jill or I have to approve the subscription so please be patient--there's going to be a rush on this for the next couple of days, but we'll get to it ASAP. You won't miss anything. Right now it looks like xmission is horking up a digest about once a day, though be aware that that'll increase when there's a lot of activity on the list. Replies go to the same address as the list, buffy@xmission.com. Also, the files tend to run about 40k. We did have one beta tester who had trouble with cut-off digests until she switched to another account. If you have any problems with your digest at all, please contact either me (romana@mindspring.com) or Jill (jtkirby@mcs.com). PLEASE NOTE: All the rules that apply to the regular buffy list apply to the digest. If you're unsure what they are, please review the welcome message or send email to the listowners with your questions. Thanks, Sharon - -- Sharon A. First of all, I've been seeing some inaccuracies about hyenas, both on the episode and in this list. Hyenas DO hunt. Sometimes they scavenge, but sometimes they make their own kills. I remember seeing a Discovery channel where a bunch of hyenas killed a lioness who got separated from her pack. Lions scavenge too, sometimes off of hyena kills. Just FYI. I was annoyed that the Pack wasn't matriarchal, because hyenas are dominated by females. Female hyenas have super-high testosterone and rule the pack. (if you ever wondered why hyenas have such bad personalities, you should know that female hyenas copulate and *give birth* through an "extension" which strongly resembles the male organ. OUCH! That's enough pain to make anyone nasty.) I wonder why people are so upset at the horror in Buffy. It's sort of a horror show. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the name of the show; Vampire = undead creature who feasts on human blood, Slayer = someone who slays. Undead creatures, slaying = horror. So, what's the problem? Campy horror is still horror. Y'all had better stay away from American Gothic, 'cause that's a lot more unpleasant and graphic than Buffy. Now that I've shown off my total attitude problem, I will say that I enjoy this show a lot. I think the woman who plays Buffy is a great actress. The writing is pretty good. Of course the basic premise is still as fresh and entertaining as it was in the original movie (which I also like a great deal). I'm still bonkers for Luke, the beefcake vampire from the pilot. Still bummed that he was killed off. )^: Y'all can keep your Xander, Angel and Giles. There is more then Giles in this post, so please read even if you aren't the biggest Giles fan) Giles (this might be rather long)- (This is mainly towards Daniel) Having ASH on the show is a definite plus for me and his fans, I would have probably watched the show whether he was on it or not, but he is not the only reason I watch the show. I loved the movie, and I liked the concept, hence I wanted to watch the show. Yes he wasn't shown as much as in previous eps, but the parts he was in were *classic* Giles! The scene in the library after training Buffy "You just run along to class...while I wait for the feeling to return to my arms" - great expressions, great quote. And who could forget when Buffy tells Giles about Xander - Giles - "It's devasating, he's turned in to a 16-year old boy. Of course you'll have to kill him" - Buffy: "Giles, I'm serious" - Giles: "So am I. Except for the part about killing him." And as an X-Phile (since ep 1, I might add) I was just thrilled with the "I cannot believe that you, of all people, are trying to "Scully" me!" - Buffy. Since when did "Scully" become a verb? At the Zoo - I recognize the guy who played the zookeeper but can't place him yet, it will probably come to me in the middle of the night. Nothing like waking up and saying "AHA!" I was once heard singing "Don't Cry for me Argentina" from "Evita" in my sleep, but that's another story, which I'm sure you aren't *dying* to hear! Giles is a bit to trusty (definitely a change from ASH's "Oliver" character), walking into the trap the way he did, "Oliver" would (going back to a previous post) have had "Sydney" call the guy, invade his mind with VR and find out what he was up to, if anything :D. But Giles did wisen up pretty fast, but not soon enough. Call me a crazy GASPer but I didn't like seeing Giles being hit with the staff :PPPP AGAIN he is knocked unconscious during the major *fight* scene, is it just me or does this seem to be an ungoing thing - Giles - "Uhh...Did I miss anything?" - YES!! LET THE GUY REMAIN CONSCIOUS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! :D I wasn't *crying* over the death of the zookeeper, nope not one bit! (Hey GASPers! I watched the show the second time with Closed Captioning and In the scene where the zookeeper startles Giles, they actually have [GASPS] as the captioning for ASH's response :D) Coat and Ties (and Shirts and Scarfs) - Okay the tie he wore in most of the scenes was nice I have to admit! It actually went with the red striped shirt and red vest. But UGH alert! - He wore the "butt-ugly" checkered green shirt again and I think the same ugly tie from before with it! Well at least he (as in "Giles" and maybe ASH as well) shows that he doesn't have an extensive budget for his clothes, and is *forced* to wear the same things over again. Loved the scarf! I would keep it myself, but I already have the Coats and Ties, and since I am the Pres. of the GASPers (now) it wouldn't look good that I take tons of stuff for myself and leave nothing good for anyone else, anyhoo trying to figure out where to added the extra stuff in my sig and keep it six lines would be next to impossible! (play "Mission: Impossible" theme here if you have it) :D More to Keep - Added tonight: Clipboard Scarf - (though I think someone said they were interested in this a few days ago based on the picture, but since we hadn't seen it yet, I didn't put it on the list, so if that was you (Cagey do you remember who it was?), please email me or I'll *give* it to someone else.) Things still left: Pen Vests Tea Cup shoulder bag Plants (new - seen in "Teacher's Pet" and "Never Kill a Boy...") (Someone has already claimed the pads Giles was using during the fight practising with Buffy - sorry). Okay I think this is long enough, and I'm sure I've put a few of you to sleep, if you even made it this far"Lullaby and goodnight" - And to the guy who said I was witty - did I meet your expectations? :D Till the mood strikes me again to write more mindless drivel ;D I'll bid you all adieu. Looks like its gonna be set between NKABOTFD & The Pack. Did like Buffy calling Giles by saying that it was a bit ridiculous for him to "Scully" her. Anyway, I'm sitting here in Comp class with a teach who knows squat and he expects US to teach the class. It's pathetic. But hey, I had to take the class so.... On another note, I don't know when my Buffy page will be up. My great grandmother died this weekend (the 3rd grandmother I've lost in five months so life has been ... unusual.). That's it for now. OK, I just got off the phone with a really nice guy at WB in CA. I asked him about a possible Buffy soundtrack. He said that "they" were thinking about it, but it's only in the planning stages. When I asked where one should write in support of the show and the soundtrack, he suggested writing the president of WB at the following: Garth Ancier President WB Television Network 3701 Oak Street Bldg. 34R, Rm. 178 Burbank, CA 91522 Get those letters in the mail! :-) Leslie "Five hours of Angel? It's not as complete as it will be, not by a long shot!, but the first page should give you an idea of how the other pages will look like. Since I'm running low on space on Eskimo to put up more pages there (my Paul Wylie and Jeff Fahey pages take up a good deal of space with all the pictures), I signed up with GeoCities with the idea of making web pages for the GASPers and ASH fans. The first page is at: http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/7728/gaspers.html I would like to thank Cagey and WorstWitch for encouraging to me to make these pages. Now on to my request! - I need - Pictures (of ASH as Giles, of ASH as himself, of ASH as his other characters (Oliver Sampson, Taster's Choice guy, and I would *kill* for a pic of him as Frank-n-Furter! etc). I do have some but not as much as I would like. So if you know of a web page that has a picture of ASH please email me the URL at whtrose@eskimo.com or if you have pictures on your hard drive please email them to me (if you know how) at the same address. If they are your own personal pictures (as in you took them with a camera or even a snappy) I'll give you credit. URLs - Of any pages that mentions ASH in any form (I do know know of most but someone might send me one that I don't have). This includes Buffy sites. Fanfic URL's - of Sites that have stories that have ASH's characters in them (Oliver and Giles), I'm pretty sure I know them all, WorstWitch and Cagey do have a pretty good resource for Buffy and VR.5 fan fic. And anything else ASH and "GIles" related. Hope that some of you can help me!
