As a guy, I must say I rather enjoy watching attractive women that wear such clothes. Of course, that's not the only thing that makes a woman attractive. If that makes me a sexist, Oh well. No apologies here. I am very respectful of women. Anyway, perhaps she wears short, tight clothing due to her rather "athletic" lifestyle? It would be rather hard, I imagine to do those flips and things in blue jeans, for instance. Also, really loose clothing could be a hindrance when fighting. (provides more to grab onto). Or my favorite: Perhaps her character just likes being sexy. Many high school girls at my school dressed similarly. There's nothing wrong with that. And in a high school with such a high mortality rate, as some have pointed out, Im sure they have more important things to worry about than dress codes. On to another issue, The empty locker room thing. Buffy's school records seemed to indicate she had only missed one class so far? I think I read that in one of the previous posts. This would indicate that all the time she spends in the library and locker room would have to be on her own time. Either before school, during lunch, or after school. In both the Pilot and I Robot,we've seen her leap over chain-link fences and land on her feet. She can obviously take punches better than most people, but at the same time most of her fights aren't physical - they're logical and tactical. Her Judo/Karate/Whatever training tends to lead her into outsmarting her opponents by sweeping out their legs or catching them off-balance rather than physical knocking them down. This is fine. Angel told Buffy that he hadn't taken a mortal life since the gypsies gave him back his soul, which according to Giles was around 100 years earlier when Angel *changed*; that told me that he'd had plenty of time to learn control over his um...urges . Surely Buffy wasn't the first woman he's felt that passionate about. Also thought he was sick of the whole thing and would prefer to be slain by her, someone he loved, then someone indifferent to him. Maybe he would even think it was appropriate, under the circumstances. Whatever, sure hope we haven't seen the last of him. I think this is less an indication of her first romance as it is a sign of Moloch's influence. Willow *is* a good friend to Buffy. She wasn't thinking of her own safety when she called out to distract Darla in "Angel." And she and Buffy have amazingly honest heart-to-hearts. I think this was Willow's "possession" episode, of sorts. Augie inquired: >>How long would it take Barbara Walters to get Buffy to cry? Why isn't Geraldo devoting his full attention to the odd occurences in Sunnydale? << LOL! This would be great in a Buffy dream sequence! I think the uncontrollabe-reaction idea is plausible, but I really got the impression that he did it deliberately so she could see why they couldn't be together. << Yes, Ruth and I had been discussing this online and offline. Angel has a great deal of self-control. He's gone 80 years without feeding on "another human being." I'd say he knows how to control the demon to a great extent. This isn't to say that he might lose control later, but I don't think he did in Buffy's room or in front of Darla. In the first scene, Buffy is getting too close to him, and he hasn't been honest with her. Angel says he's been sitting in her room reading and thinking a lot about his feelings for her. The poor man would rather leave than have Buffy loath him, but he feels it's inevitable--so, he *shows* her what he is. As another list member pointed out (sorry, I forget who), Angel has some self-loathing issues. This coincides with his desire to "want it finished." In the second scene, Angel lets Darla see the vampire to get her to leave. It's faster. Simpler. The only time Angel loses any kind of control, in my opinion, is when he reverts to his human face in the Bronze. He's trying so hard to make things easier for Buffy. Make her hate him. See the ugliness. And he just can't keep it up. His soul or heart--that part of himself that has fallen in love with Buffy--just takes over. Sonja asked: >>In the scene when Willow is first telling Buffy about Malcolm she opens her locker and I swear that picture is of her and Giles, can anyone else confirm or deny this?<< Actually, it looks like Xander, which would make more sense. I get the feeling that Willow and Xander have been going to school together since kindergarten. I'm sure there are lots of pictures of them together. And Willow being Willow would want one in her locker. Thanks to Harper and Maytree for the Moloch lessons. Great info! Or my favorite: Perhaps her character just likes being sexy. Buffy wears short revealing clothes to attract her demographic audience. Which at this moment I am wondering what it could be. Mainly because her fans seem to be so diverse. I believe they're trying to attract teenage males . (Or very fashion conscious females. A Clarissa thing) Her clothes in I Robot are tighter and shorter than they were in the first episode. They've got a hit on their hands and they want to reel them in... Much like the Xena vs Callisto fight scenes attract males 18-35+. Well, if she were actually talking (chatting, whatever) with someone over the internet, it would have been a little fast. But, since "Malcolm" was actually *in* the computer, don't you think his response times would have been fast? What bothered me the most was that Willow spoke her answers out loud, and "Malcolm's" responses were synthesized so we could hear them. I realize it's a necessary evil, for both the sight-impaired and the necessitis of the medium, but no one I know speaks out thier answers as they type! This isn't to say that he might lose control later, but I don't Remember when Darla taunted Angel with: "Buffy is *sooo* much like the Other One, isn't she?" From what I read of this statement is that Angel had a very steamy relationship with a young blonde girl (slayer or not is uncertain) in the distant past. And most likely, all the passion of the moment caused him to revert to vampire form, and probably he took the soul of the young girl. Since he has gone 80 years live-blood-free, I'm assuming that this blonde girl was his last kill -- all the guilt, regret, and angst about what he's done. Angel was younger when he was with this blonde girl, and much less "in control" than he is now. In that 80 years he also probably did not meet another young blonde like Buffy, or had the self- control to prevent the demon from coming out. But Buffy is "so much like the other one", so just like a Highlander or FK flashback, all the passions and emotions from that past time resurfaced. And Angel lost control. I thought Angel had a look of surprise on his face when Buffy screamed. He couldn't believe that he changed on her and almost lost control. Too bad Buffy couldn't kick Angel out the window... she was wearing jammies and she didn't have her boots on. /---------------------------------------------------------------------\ | Hendu | hendu@usa.net | http://www.personal.psu.edu/hxn106 | | WOWIE! Sarah and Lindsay are great friends, and they went to the same professional high school together. When Sarah moved out to California she was living with An Li, but I don't know if she still is. I don't recall her wearing boots on AMC. They dressed her much frumpier than they do on Buffy. - -Ray > /---------------------------------------------------------------------\ > | Hendu | hendu@usa.net | http://www.personal.psu.edu/hxn106 | > | WOWIE! I'm sorry but i disagree incredibly with this. It was definitely uncontrollable. The romantic moment they were in caused natural ermm.... "lusty" feelings. Bringing to surface umm... (it's so hard wording everything so it's decent as possible!) "primal urges". Now when you're not really human but somethign quite beastial in fact, when those primal urges awaken, we're not talking about your typical male hormones here. The hunger would also awaken... anyone who's done any vampire reading, movie-watching, role-playing etc. knows that most vampires have given up the need for um, that sort of activity because the hunger and the feeding are so similar and are the same kinds of energy, same feelings involved (only without any romantic connotations). So the animal in him was awakened and his vampy side sprung to action.... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Apr 1997 14:52:56 -0400 From: Tom Simpson Subject: Re: BUFFY: Buffy in the north >>At 02:27 AM 4/30/97 -0400, you wrote: >I'm not sure if WB exactly knows what to make of a live action show, >though. If it said BUFFY, it was the xmission list, if it said BW, it was the mlists list, and if it didn't say either, it was planetx. However, because people are cross-posting (posting the same post to two or three lists), my mailboxes are getting to be hard to sort. Personal request (not cleared with the listowners beforehand): if you're posting or replying to something other than this list (buffy@xmission.com), please don't have the capitalized word BUFFY on it. I don't need any more unnecessary confusion in my life. My brain's just not that big. Thanks, all. Actually, on the IRC on my campus (it's UNIX based, beyond that, I don't know that much about the set-up of it), that's exactly what happens. Makes it really fun to watch the typos, and the frustrated back-spacing of fast typists who keep making the same mistake over and over and obsessively keep trying to get it right (except that it's often me). - -Azran ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Apr 1997 16:05:36 -0400 (EDT) From: Hendricks Ng Subject: Re: BUFFY: request re subject lines > However, because people are cross-posting (posting the same post to two or > three lists), my mailboxes are getting to be hard to sort. whoops. sorry :( i suppose its not very necessary to cross-post. > "Woo hoo?" -- Lennier (Babylon 5) *rofl* darn, must've missed this ep. do you remember which one it is? mlist?
