After his minions failed to kill Buffy (about 10-20mins in), he says "You guys are weak. It's been too long since you've faced a slayer", and then he pokes a vamps eye out. When combined with Giles line "...the one girl in all the world..." led me to this Theory of the Slayer. Throughout the world there are several girls with the potential to be slayers. When one dies, another is discovered, but in another part of the world. So the vampires in one community would have an incentive to kill the slayer because the new slayer would be bothering some other vampires. Anyway, its just one more possibility. I think the only reason the Master's skeleton was left was so that they could have something to "talk" to at the end. I mean, how would it look if Ms. Calender looked down at the floor and said, "What about him?" To which Buffy would reply, "He's not going anywhere."? Kinda ruins the affect, doesn't it. IMHO, sometimes you just have to accept something. In this show, we're talking about subs shape-shifting into giant praying mantises, nightmares coming true, and a vampire who got trapped underground 40 years ago (in a church, I might add, how's that for irony?) by an earthquake while attempting to bring doom to the human race. Scientific explanation for those? i don't think so. Somethings you just have to accept (to repeat myself). Sometimes, if you let things get too technical, or if you think about them *too* much, it ruins it. No offense to anyone intended, just contributing my $0.02. On an entirely (and yet not so entirely) different note. When a vampire is staked, does the stake "dissolve" with the vamp? Like, when Xander was holding the stake at Jesse's heart, and then Jesse gets staked, you see Xander's *empty* hand. You never see Buffy bend down to pick up her *extremely* sharp stake after using it. Couldn't that get kinda expensive and time consuming? How would you like to have to find and sharpen a new stake each time you killed a vamp? especially when you kill 3 in one night. Just a thought. I'll be leaving now. So-and-so's been resigned to the show, and we need to write his old character back in the show." "But we killed him off." "So?" "He was decapitated. He was driving his convertable, and got his head taken off. How the hell am I supposed to write in a character that doesn't have a head?" The moral being that if it's necessary for the plot, any given character can come back from the (un)dead. Then as Darla and Buffy start to get down, Buffy no longer has the stake. Where did it go? Only Buffy knows. But your right after Xander stakes Jesse, the stake is "Presto-Change-o-Gone-o". Buffyverse is such a complicated place. As a general comment as well as a response to the first half of your message, Repeat season basically sucks!! Sure its great to re-watch all the episodes but it doesn't allow for anything new EXCEPT for the dissection of every single scene, trying to find all that "GOTCHA" kind of stuff. I agree with what you said though, sometimes you just have to accept stuff as it is, but being that there's nothing NEW to comment on........It helps pass the time until next season. Knightwatch willie@techline.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Jun 1997 23:34:43 -0700 From: Jennifer Hawthorne Subject: BUFFY: Two brief nods to "Buffy" in this week's EW I guess the folks at Entertainment Weekly are paying a fair amount of attention to BtVS; there were two off-hand comments that mentioned the show buried in the text of this week's issue. (June 20, Nick Cage and John Travolta on the cover). First, at the bottom of page 60 in the "What to Watch" section, a rerun of "Die Hard" is referred to as "A little film we like to call 'Beefy the Terrorist Slayer.'" Second, on p. 76 in the Video section, Ty Burr comments that "...the only way to explain such diverse phenomena as Howard Stern, Ween, and 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' is that moronic characters can imply all manner of droll societal observations when used by creators who keep their distance." While I'm not sure I like Burr's reference to "moronic characters" (all of our gang are quite intelligent, thank you!) it's a good sign that "Buffy" is steadily creeping upward in general awareness. EW wouldn't be using the name of the show in jokes and columns if they didn't expect people to get the reference, after all. - -- Maytree - ------------------------------------------------------- Jennifer Hawthorne :: jen@pacwest.DIESPAM.net [To reply to this message, remove DIESPAM from address] - ------------------------------------------------------- Why do people always remember where they were when someone famous was killed?
