Bravo! I was just wondering - does anyone think Joss Whedon will attend the awards ceremony? My mother, who is an avid X-Phile, told me that Chris Carter, that show's writer/creator, attends many of the award shows when "The X-Files" is nominated, including its actors. These shows have included the Emmys, the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards. I think it would be great for Joss W. to attend the show if he is so inclined. It would be a real kick to see him there - I wonder if he would accept the award for his brainchild if it won. Thoughts? Ob Buffy: I love seeing how the Slayer and her loyal Slayerettes stick together during non-slaying school hours (read: boring class time). Xander and Willow share a lab desk in Biology ("Teacher's Pet") with Buffy right across the aisle. Buffy sits directly behind Xander and next to Willow in Health class ("Nightmares"), and Xander and Willow sit next to each other in Ms. Miller's English class, right behind none other than Cordelia ("Invisible Girl"). Apparently, Xander and Willow also share a geometry class, and all three experience the joys of Physical Education together ("The Pack"). Cool scheduling! Of course, those who have class together, cut class together! This partly motivates Principal Snyder's punishment of forcing them to join the talentless show - according to him, they thought their "afternoon classes were optional". ("Puppet Show") I wonder how they'll set it up for the new season. Will Principal Snyder see to it that The Three (the HUMAN Three, that is :), whom he sees as "antisocial" troublemakers, are split up as much as possible? It seems like something he would do. Will Buffy have to retake American History? Will she get away with cutting so many classes this year? Will Giles be able to cover for her? Am I just a little bit obsessive? Since Buffyverse doesn't have a "buzz" like HL or Spidey does, we only have what characters say about sensing vampires to conclude something like that. She could have simply heard him behind her or gotten that paranoid "I'm being followed" feeling that everyone gets sometimes. Think about it - she didn't actually "sense" that vamp in the Bronze - she was just very observant. Her skills weren't up to par. And when she met Angel she didn't confront him about being a vampire. If she *had* sensed him and therefore *known* he was a vamp I think that their conversation would have gone differently. :-) I'll concede that maybe on some subconscious level she felt him, but she wasn't familiar enough with her abilities to get the in-your-face "holy-%^&*-it's-a-vampire" sense. >gave her enough warning to bushwack Angel a minute later. I think it's rather obvious that Buffyverse is reflective of today's religions. (Techo)pagans coexist with Christians. However, so far the tools of faith have ben just that - tools. I haven't once seen Buffy go to Mass or Ms. C do a worship circle. The crosses, etc, have been used as tools to acheive an end - the destruction of vampires. I think the fact that Buffy and co. use the crosses, etc, but haven't shown a faith in the religions backing them (well, maybe Ms. C has, but . . . ) is significant. It seems to indicate that there is a genuine force, a metaphyscial constant, if you will, backing them, regardless of the beliefs of the user. Just because those tools come from different faiths doesn't invalidate their effectiveness. So - what does this mean, religion wise? That there is more than one "correct" religion - that is doesn't matter which one you use - they all achieve the same goal? That seems to be how it works in Buffyverse . . . >fear and as we all know fear is a very powerful thing in the universe. >I'd say the same thing about fire and vampires. How would you like to be Joss, and have a package arrive one day and in it is a shirt w/ your quotes on the back - but you didn't give permission for them to be used. I'm already walking the edge with the Xander quote and the Buffy-like script on the front, and I'd rather not push it too much more. While Buffyfandom is really very fan-friendly (Joss is such a cool guy ;-) just look at what happened to the Trekkies (ers) and the X-Philes. Since this is an enterprise that could be seen as money-making (though I assure you - I'm not making any :-) I prefer to err on the side of caution. Plus, those quotes, regardless of the law, really are Joss' intellectual property. While I don't see anything wrong with putting them in .sigs or quoting randomly in everyday speech (which I do :-) I wouldn't feel right using them on T-shirts. >I'm very appreciative of what Kim has done and I don't mean to dis it. I agree that Joss' writing is a major strength of the show (it's what hooked me)(the British librarian and angsty vampire had *nothing* do with it, of course ;-) However, I really feel that since these are shirts to represent a particular segment of Buffy fandom (ie, the xmission list), they should be designed by the fans as much as possible. If someone wants to come up with other reasons for the top-ten list, that's cool with me. I'm not attached to my work in particular case. But it really needs to stay fan-created. kimmie (me?)(anal retentive?)(Naw, just been mauled by a weasel - er, lawyer before) ________ Kim Sefcik, Richie Reservist (Clan Denial) ~ MFWC & PWFC ~ Wombat Extraordinare ~ Chancer ~ Cousin ~ Early Edition Lover and Yet Another Bleepin' X-Phile Keeper of Giles' Past / Keeper of Angel's Lower Undergarments Secretary of the GASPers / Maintainer of the "Strange Luck" FAQ "I am Richie Ryan of the Clan... wait, can we try that again?" ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 06 Aug 1997 17:48:15 -0400 From: Dethking Subject: Re: BUFFY: Re: Jesse's comment At 02:41 PM 8/6/97 -0700, you wrote: >> actually i don't get it >It means that he couldn't get a date with anyone who could see. > thanx...now i get it....i am a little slow on those kind of jokes...I have no common sense :) - -Dethking Dethking@hunterdon.csnet.net Real Name : Gregg Andrews Buffy- "Have you seen the kids who work on the yearbook? *Nerds* pick on them." ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 06 Aug 1997 18:04:37 -0700 From: NAZARIAN@ORIX.COM Subject: BUFFY: Re: quotes > "No, no, listen, don't listen to me, listen. Hey, Scott, since all of the eps have been rerun this summer except Teacher's Pet, The Pack, Prophecy Girl, and Angel, and Teacher's Pet and The Pack are showing in the next two weeks, and you told us Angel is probably airing September 1, does that mean that Prophecy Girl is showing thw week before Angel? The difference between the regular list and the digest is that instead of a lot of individual posts, you'll get a large file once or twice a day containing a bunch of posts.
