Most of the time the one wielding the cross is moving the cross towards the vampire's face or just generally towards the vampire, which would indicate imminent physical contact--a bad thing for the vampire. When the vampire is walking through a graveyard at least he/she has some general control over what they'll be doing with their bodies, and I'm fairly sure they don't expect the crosses to start jumping out of the soil to attack them. That just reminded me--graveyards are attached to churches, or belong to churches, and thus would be consecrated. Cemeteries, on the other hand, are either run privately or by cities, counties or states. They couldn't possibly be as holy. If we've been seeing the Sunnydale Cemetery (as opposed to a church's graveyard), this would account for the ease with which these vamps sashay, recklessly close, it would seem, to the crosses. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Alan Convis alan@pharlap.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Aug 1997 13:43:08 -0700 From: "Christopher B. For that matter, why not just call the show THE VAMPIRE HUNTER? Because that doesn't really cover the whole show either. I think they dropped the Vampire Slayer in part because they only had five shows out of the thirteen that really dealt with vampires. I do admit that it remained heavily commented on in the backdrop of the other episodes. They might have dropped it because it was misleading people into thinking it strictly a vampire show or that it was the 1992 movie with Kristy Swanson or exactly like the movie. This breaks from the movie and lets Buffy become The Slayer, no adjective needed. Of course, I could be totally out there with this too. Well, as we all know, tonight was the long awaited rebroadcast of the fabled "Angel." Here are my questions: 1) Why didn't Buffy think there was anything strange about Angel spending the day in her house while she was at school? I mean, _we_ know he couldn't have left, but Buffy doesn't -- why did she expect him to be there when she got home? 2) I see this all the time in movies/television, and it still bugs me: in my experience, most people, when they go to sleep, generally have some sort of evening toilette to complete -- they brush their teeth, they go to the bathroom, etc. Not only _doesn't_ Buffy engage in any evening ablutions, but she doesn't even invite poor Angel to do so. Once again, as it turns out, Angel probably doesn't need to use the bathroom or anything, but Buffy doesn't know that. Talk about your rude hostess behaviour. People have _died_ from burst bladders, you know (isn't that how Tycho Brahe died? Can anyone confirm?). 3) Does anyone go to sleep lying on their backs with the blanket pulled up to only their _waist_ while a potential boyfriend sleeps on the floor beside them? I mean, in an awkward sleeping situation, one tends to pull the covers up to one's chin -- in fact, I think it's sort of odd to think that anyone would go to sleep with the covers pulled up only to the waist. But even assuming there is a wide variety in sleeping habits, you would expect, given the tension, that Buffy would cover up, wouldn't you? 4) And finally, every time I see that big kiss in Buffy's bedroom, I just have to laugh -- did anyone else notice that the Foley artists seem to have gone severely overboard with the sucking sound effects? I mean, seriously, watch it again -- the suck sounds don't even seem appropriately timed with the lip action. Yeah, yeah, I need a life, I know. I suffer from BWS, it makes me behave in strange ways. Looks like lots of angst for Buffy and Angel in the "When She Was Bad." The new logo is interesting, but I think it's a mistake to drop The Vampire Slayer from it. Oh well, I can live with it for the sake of new episodes. Remember to set those VCR's on the 15th of September. Reading this also gave me another thought on why there is really only ONE slayer per generation...why would The Master be so upset or even care that they had not killed the slayer if one would just pop up when she was dead. In other words, if there were always a slayer out there, there would be no need to put their lives in danger because there would be no way to get rid of a slayer. What exactly are those?<< I think an undead question is one that has been discussed so much, but never is actually answered because none of us actually know. I was watching "Angel" tonight (twice in a row - I taped it) and I swear I cried (really cried) through at least 1/2 of the episode. I don't remember getting so emotional the first time I saw it but I guess I wasn't as insanely obsessed with the show then :-). (not to mention as in love with Angel). It was so sad though when they said goodbye. My 2 best friends (who love the show and who love Xander) think I'm crazy for crying but it was just so sad when they split up. Anyway, I'll shut up now about this. The Annointed One Collin actually talked a lot in this one! I kinda like Collin even though he is possessed by the demon and I also kinda like the way the master refers to the vampires as a "family." I think someone mentioned a few days ago that Luke was like a big brother to Darla and the oldest son to the master. And Darla was like the spoiled favorite daughter to the master and a little sister to Luke. And the way she talked to Thomas it was like he was her younger bro. Its kind of cool to see that even evil vampires can have a sort of good side (as long as you forget the little part that they kill humans for a minute :-) Don't get me wrong though, I still want Buffy to kick vampire butt, but I was just making a point (pointless as it was). Okay, I'm done babbling.
