And Xander would make a great werewolf, it's almost type-casting (and maybe *too* obvious?). I don't think the werewolf will be Xander. Wolfkazzy argues against Xander because he's already been the center of too many episodes. But he is a main character and there will be lots of episodes for the others to be the center of. God, I hate it when I make a broad, sweeping statement and then somebody asks for specific examples! Thanks a lot, Jen! OK, by "sexual tension" I probably really mean teen sexual angst or fear (perhaps more than 90210's purely "let's hop in the sack" attitude). And I think Joss fuses this angst into his monster tales a lot, almost as perverse morality tales. By *essential* I mean a pivotal plot point. Examples? A few that pop to mind are: WttH: If you (Willow) are shy and inhibited and finally open up to "living in the moment" by allowing yourself to be picked up by an attractive stranger (Thomas), you might have all your blood sucked out. TP: If you (Xander) are really attracted to a beautiful and mysterious older woman (Ms. French), and you reciprocate her advances, you might end up with your head bitten off (no Freudian allusion intended). IRYJ: If you (Willow) are shy and inhibited and finally open up to flirting with a boy (Malcolm) over the internet, he could turn out to be a demon who nearly kills you and all your friends. NKABOTFD: If you (Buffy) are called to a nearly chaste duty (Slaying) and you indulge your own personal romantic needs by dating someone (Owen), you might get that person killed. Pack: If you (Xander) are attracted to one of your best friends (Buffy), there might be a murderous animal in you that could try to rape her. Angel: If you (Buffy) are normally very defended, but allow yourself become intimate with a guy who seems to good to be true, he could turn into a monster when you are most vulnerable. Angel: If you (Angel) are normally chaste because you fear you will turn into a monster, and you meet the one girl who could possibly understand, you turn into a monster at the worst possible moment. IG: If you (Marcie) are unpopular and unnoticed, you could turn into a homicidal psycho (this is for the "teen social approval" theme). Anyway, there are more for other episodes too, but you can extract some interesting as well, I've no doubt. >Even if true, this is kind of like saying "Eggs are essential to nearly >every successful attempt to bake a cake." YTV cuts out anything it deems inappropriate for younger viewers since it is mainly a "kid's" channel. I am curious what it will do with WSWB since it sounds like there are some scenes and language that it may not like for it's younger viewers. I will be checking out the WGN version tomorrow night to note the differences. Someone asked: >Does the Annointed One qualify as a vampire king? It's interesting that Charisma claims that when she was asked to read for the show, she read for Buffy and wanted that part (well, who wouldn't!), but settled for Cordelia. She's a natural slayer - though I don't know how she'd take that! Biting that vampire in PG with "See how YOU like it" - absolutely first class line delivery there! That's, IMO, the 'tude required in the role of slayer. I chide her for her, er, dramatics at time, but that style fits the role, which at times is a pure caricature. Cordelia could easily, as you sort of imply, be Buffy without the slaying. Both popular May Queens, athletic in a feminine way (hope that doesn't offend anyone!), etc. I'll even go a step further. Personally, and I realize this is HIGHLY subjective, I think Charisma would have made a better Buffy than smg (who does a fine job). CC is obviously (to me) more athletic, IMO prettier, more ... buffed. ;) I mean, those thigh muscles appear to be in a class by themselves! I think she could have given the Buffy character more of a hard edge, with the likeability that is only now being allowed to emerge in Cordelia. But I don't mean to offend all the smg fans out there, so let me just add that I think things worked out fine, that playing Cordelia may actually be a more interesting role for CC in the long run, and that it was probably wise to go with the more experienced and marketable actress in the title role. jb ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Sep 1997 16:52:44 -0400 (EDT) From: Britt1975@aol.com Subject: Re: BUFFY: Cordelia In a message dated 97-09-19 12:25:18 EDT, you write: << She, (Cordelia)my friends, is evolving. >> I felt this way also, and I also think that perhaps there is another motive for her not wanting Buffy to be such a meanie to everyone. At the end of PG Cordy was finally part of a group, a group that she knew didn't care about her clothes, her car or her parents money. She was, at least for a short time, part of a group that liked her simply because she was there when they had needed her, something not many people seem to do. Any way, my point is, maybe Cordelia saw that with the way Buffy was acting, she would lose what little involvement she had in a group of people that didn't want or need her to put up her plastic wall of popularity. What I am trying to say in my oh-so-convoluted way is that I think that Cordelia doesn't want to see the group break-up because, for as much as she pretends not to, she likes the solidity of the Slayer and her pals. While I agree that Cordy may *never* be a slayerette, I think that eventually her *put on* hostility will fade and she will at least be openly civil if not downright nice to the group. Okay it's only my opinion but there it is. Oh yeah, a lot of people have mentioned that Angel was wearing red velvet in WSWB, and commented on how strange it seemed to see Angel in something other than his usual Black and white ensemble. Did anyone notice that in the preview for NAR he was wearing a white jacket-looking thingy. It is when he is saying "What I saw didn't add up to a whole girl" or something like that. Buffy and gang would have to figure out who the lycanthrope is and then find a way to cure Cordelia, or if they even wanted to cure Cordelia, hehehe. Would love to see Angel fighting off Cordelia/She-Wolf to save Buffy. That would be a fight scene to die for! He was not allowed to get a tan on his face or hands during his Hawaii vacation because they were in the midst of filming an ep and it would have spoiled the continuity. He said he would be using lots of sunscreen. I guess the same would have to hold true for David Boreanaz. That's a pretty good problem to have if you consider the prospect of melanoma. Thought I should speak up here. It's not Cordelia in the fic, I don't believe, but, anyway, someone on buffy beta wrote, or is still in the process of writing a piece of fiction called 'The She-Wolf of Sunnydale'. I think it's archived on the Slayer's Fanfic Archive (slayerfanfic.alz.com). Just thought I should give credit for an idea previously conceived. }:)> Chris 2 **Keeper of Xander's Cool** **BABS Loremaster** ========================================================================= BABS Homepage: http://www.porter.ucsc.edu/~weasel/BABS/babs.htm ========================================================================= "No, no, listen, don't listen to me, listen. Why is he wearing something other than his normal black suit with white undershirt? Is this an attempt to make him more human? I don't want Angel to become more human. He's not human he's a vampire with a soul and nothing more. Sure he has feelings but they can't make him more human by changing his clothes. I noticed that when they showed the promo for "Some Assembly Required" Angel is I think wearing a tan or light colored suit with a white shirt. What was wrong with him in black? It made him more mysterious. Why mess with a good thing, him in black kept me watching. I don't think they should humanize him. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Sep 1997 16:44:53 PDT From: "" Subject: BUFFY: YTV and a request I guess YTV decided to air When She Was Bad after all, because it's on now (I have it on tape, or I'd be watching it) anyways I still need 3 eps from the first season, IRYJ, The Puppet Show and Nightmares, does anyone know where I can get a fairly good recording of them? I have to step in here, much as I'd like to avoid this discussion. But it's all in good fun, right? (Y'know, I'm wondering why we have to give each other these assurances when we know it's all just nit-picky obsessed madness. It's not as if anybody's going to go all out and pull a Jen Hawthorne--oop did I say that?). I just have to make sure that when I open the cupboard tomorrow morning in a groggy state that it's only Juan Valdez and his well-bred donkey that steps out, not some crazed mordacious list-mate. Now, on to the topic at hand. Where did you see the 'dumping'? To me, 'dumping' generally occurs when there's a relationship to begin with. Sure, Buffy could have known that Xander had the hots for her, but she also knew that it was up to him to express those feelings. She *wasn't* attracted to him and so obviuosly she didn't feel obligated to tell him until he acted. When he finally did act, she had to tell him that *no*, she didn't want to dance with him. Why? Because she was feeling particularly malicious? No. Because she wanted to further the career of Clint Black? I don't think so. I'm willing to bet that Buffy knew if she consented to dance with him that Xander would get the wrong idea--that he would think she was romantically interested in him, which she wasn't. In my opinion, she went about it the right way. She wasn't interested, Xander was. It's as simple as that. What would one expect her to do other than refusing his affections? Lie to him? }:)> Chris 2 **Keeper of Xander's Cool** **BABS Loremaster** ========================================================================= BABS Homepage: http://www.porter.ucsc.edu/~weasel/BABS/babs.htm ========================================================================= "No, no, listen, don't listen to me, listen.
