I would say that there were *way* noticeable differences, in fact I would say that there were few similarities. Kendal was a "bitca" from the word go and there was absolutely no way to "understand" what she did. Sure, she could justify her actions...but she was the only one. In WSWB Buffy was not as much a as she was misguided. She was attempting to protect her friends, by refusing to let them be close to her. Unfortunately for Buffy, her friends are already too involved in what she does. With the exception of Xander's moment of anger towards the end, the slayerettes and Giles just kept trying to understand her actions. With one minor exception...the two lines she used on Cordelia were definately worthy of Kendall Hart. In a genre in which bitchy women come and go almost daily it is hard to form a lasting impression in a viewers mind unless you are a long running character, however Kendall was a character that is still remembered by AMC fans, because she is still posted about occasionally on the boards and still mentioned in Soap Mags articles and "to the editor" letters. I have to say that I honestly feel that this can be attributed to the quality of the actress and not the quality of the writing, which although is usually excellent, couldn't touch the realism that SMG brought to the words. I could join Lisa in the lifeless list members. Maybe we could start a club.<< Well you can go ahead and put me in the club. I had my own little Buffy film fest today. I only have about 7 episodes on tape and I have actually missed 3 of the 1st season episodes. So I have some questions and comments. If anyone can answer my questions I would appreciate it, and if my comments are *way* off base, please feel free to *constructively* correct me. Here goes. There was a compilation of lines from WSWB that were similar to lines in earlier episodes, well in "Puppet Show" When Buffy and friends save Giles he says something about their timing being immpecable....in WSWB Xander says...."Man your timing realy doesn't suck" So there is my contribution to the list. Another big subject of discussion on the list is about Cordy's seeming change in attitude, and while I have already given my take on that subject I have a new theory. In PG Cordy's boyfriend bites the dust. Now while I am not saying that she was "in love" with him, she did appearently *like* him a lot. It was possibly the first time that she has lost anyone close to her....and perhaps that has caused her to reevaluate her life, actions and priorities. Any way....just MHO. In my marathon of watching today I realized that Buffy has, on several occasions, spoken more harshly than necessary to Giles. Has she *ever* apologized to him? I mean at the end of WSWB she was so concerned about how to approach Will and Xander because of how she had treated them, but she has never shown that concern for Giles....wonder why? At the beginning of PG it shows Angel and Giles talking about the Cordex and Angel say that he can get it for him....what episode does that actually take place in? And at the end of one episode, Xander, Buffy and Willow are talking about thier collective bad taste in signifigant others'....what episode was that from? I remember that in NKABOTFD they killed the big ugly Vamp that was thought to be the A1...in what episode was "colin" introduced as the A1? And did it ever explain what exactly that is? In WSWB Principal Snyder walks up to Buffy and friends and berates them for not being in class but in the background you see other students who are not in class...why doesn't he say anything to them? Are they immune from Synder's misplaced anger at young people? In the new logo....I have noticed that there are three silouettes underneath the logo...it looks to me like it is Xander, Buffy and then Angel...why would they only do it of those three.....or is my eyesight just failing rapidly? I keep reading the expression "Buffyverse Vampires" what exactly does that mean...I know that it refers to the set of rules that goveren the actions of the vamps on BtVS...but are those actually written down somewhere? Or are they just assumed by the actions of the show? Okay, I'm done..."Shoot me, stuff me and mount me" Only one more day till we get a whole new episode to dismember....no pun intended...well.....actually.....yeah there was :-)) Get it....episode about people assembling a girl from stolen body parts...we get to dismember the episode.....okay...yeah...overkill...sorry. The address to post messages to the list is BUFFY@XMISSION.COM. There's a list information page set up at http://www.mindspring.com/~romana/buffylist/index.html. The buffy FAQ can be found at http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Cavern/1763/buffyfaq.html. Please check it out ASAP--Cagey has done a wonderful job with it and it will answer a bunch of your questions about the show and fandom. PLEASE READ THE FAQ before posting questions to the list-- many common questions are covered there. Because we want this list to be a great place to talk about "Buffy," we are setting up a few ground rules. If you've ever been involved in a discussion list, many of these rules will look familiar. Hopefully, they'll make list life more interesting (and more fun) for everyone. Please note: we enforce these rules. This is an extremely high- volume list, and we want to make sure that the volume is relevant to the show. 1. Keep posts on topic. Topics should be related to Buffy the series, Buffy the movie, the actors involved in either project, etc.. Discussion of vampires in other universes is fine as long as they're being discussed in relation to the Buffy universe. 2. Please be careful with the use of strong imagery or language in consideration of younger list members. Think "rated PG." Also, no masking (replacing one letter in a potentially offenisve word with an asterisk). 3. No advertising of non-Buffy related items or services. If you want to post information about Buffy-related merchandise, conventions, etc., clear it through one of us first. Also, no attachments, or binary files of any sort (including images, wavs, MOVs, etc). 4. Please don't post fiction to this list. There is a separate Buffy fiction list (subscription info below). 5. If you get advance information on a new episode, or see an episode earlier than the national viewing time, and you want to post about it, please do the following: **Mark the post as a "spoiler" in the subject header. **Leave about twelve lines (blank or with non-spoiler info) at the top of the post. This ensures that anyone who doesn't like knowing about an episode ahead of time is "protected." :) The blank space is for people whose mailers automatically open up the next piece of mail, without giving them a chance to see "spoiler" in the header. Spoiler warnings are not necessary after the start of the episode's national viewing time, which is currently set at 9 p.m. Mondays, Eastern Standard Time though we request that at this point you please put the episode title in the subect line. Spoiler warnings are not necessary for reruns. 6. Most importantly, there will be ABSOLUTELY NO FLAMING ONLIST. We have absolutely zero tolerance for this kind of behaviour. Flames can kill a list, permanently damage relationships, and make life a lot less fun for everyone. Broadly defined, a flame is a personally derogatory, inflammatory comment about another list member, their progenitors, or about any of the actors, writers, directors, producers or crew of "Buffy." Disagreements-- even heated ones-- are expected. But the minute you start slamming someone personally, you will face the Wrath of Jill and Sharon. First offense: offender is unsubscribed for one week. Second offense: offender is unsubscribed to the Buffy list for a minimum of three months. If the offender returns and flames again, they're offlist permanently. And no, it doesn't matter that the actors, writers, etc. from "Buffy" aren't onlist; we won't put up with anyone flaming them anyway. There are slander laws against it. It's also common courtesy. Determination of what is (and what is not) a flame is made by the listowners, and their decisions are final. Determinations of any penalties associated with flames are also made by the listowners, and their decisions are final. 7. Related to #6, the listowners reserve the right to "kill" any discussion threads which either of the listowners deem offensive, or which appear to be degenerating into a flame war. If either one of us declares a topic "dead," it's dead. Anyone who continues the discussion thread, against our express wishes, will be immediately unsubscribed for one week. 8. Please limit quotes of a previous post to four lines maximum per point you are responding to. Buffy is a high traffic list, and we're asking subscribers to be mindful of wasted bandwidth when they respond to posts. For example, here's an original quote: >I just love Buuffy the Vampire Slayer. It's my favorite show, and about >the only thing I watch on television anymore. I look forward to each >and every episode. DOes anyone know hot to write to the stars of the >show, or where to write to show our support? Willow is my favorite >character, but I like Buffy a lot to. And Giles! Woo hoo! I recognize >him from VR5. If you want to answer this person's questions about where to write, there's no need to include the extra stuff, so your response should look like this: >Does >anyone know hot to write to the stars of the show, or where to write >to show our support? You can even clean it up further and put it onto two lines, but you get the picture. Only include the relevant stuff in your response, so that people get what you're talking about. Penalties: First offense: Offlist warning (clearly marked WARNING: Overquoting). Second offense: Removal from the list for one week. 9. Please limit your .sig to 6 lines maximum, but do include your name and email address at the bottom of each post so someone can respond to you privately if they want to. Penalties for not following this rule are the same as for #8. 10. Do NOT post personal information, or requests for personal information, about the cast, crew, etc. of "Buffy" to this list. Personal information includes (but is not limited to) home address, telephone number, email address (unless the individual gives it out freely), etc. It's certainly fine to discuss who's dating whom, or how tall someone is, or things like that. But anything that could constitute an invasion of personal privacy (or could potentially be some type of threat to any individual) is strictly forbidden on this list. The penalty for this is ONE warning-- ONE. If it happens again, that person is permanently unsubscribed from this list. If you have any question over what you're posting, and whether it violates this rule, please email either one of us. 11. And last, but not least, we reserve the right to deny subscription (new, renewed, or continued) to the list for any individual(s). IF YOU'RE SUBSCRIBED TO THE REGULAR BUFFY LIST AND WISH TO CHANGE TO DIGEST: You need to unsubscribe from the Buffy list, and resubscribe to the digest. Send a message to majordomo@xmission.com In the body of the message, put unsubscribe buffy Then, send a second message to majordomo@xmission.com In the body of the message, put subscribe buffy-digest You'll go through the same approval process that you got when you subbed to the regular Buffy list. If you're subscribed to the digest version, and want to change to regular mail, do the opposite-- unsub from buffy-digest, and resub to buffy. sah (romana@mindspring.com) & Jill Kirby (jtkirby@mcs.com) Listowners, Buffy Mailing List ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Sep 1997 08:24:40 -0400 From: sah Subject: BUFFY: ADMIN: Netiquette NETIQUETTE In addition to the list rules, there are some netiquette conventions we are asking people to observe. 1. At a minimum please sign and put your email address at the bottom of the post. Some people's mailers strip out header information. 2. Be aware that the default reply to for the list is to buffy@xmission.com. It's very easy to send a post meant to go private to the list by accident because of this. Check your reply to: headers very carefully. 3. Don't send test posts to the list. Send a regular post with buffy content instead--it will provide the same information and won't clutter up the list. HOUSEKEEPING >From time to time an account starts bouncing. If we get three bounces from an address we uns*bscribe it because we get a bounce message from that address for every message sent to the list if they aren't on digest. This results in *a lot* of bounce messages to wade through in the administrative account. If you find yourself mysteriously not receiving list mail it's due to bounces, and no other reason. If we are going to remove you for disciplinary reasons you will be notified. Here are the reasons behind bounce uns*bs. 1. Full mailbox. This affects AOL users more than anyone else, though I suspect it's a factor for Juno, WebTV, and Hotmail users as well. These accounts have limited mailbox space and fill up quickly when not checked regularly. When that happens messages start bouncing. Both Jill and I strongly recommend that you go to digest if you do not have the opportunity to clean out your mailbox every day. Not only will it make us happy to not have to deal with bounces, it'll probably make your ISP happy as well. 2. Local configuration problems Sometimes an ISP goes down for no reason for a while, and we will receive bounces from an address. Your best bet is to contact customer support when that happens, then res*bscribe to the list once the problem is cleared up. IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE BEEN UNS*BBED Take the following steps in the order in which they appear if you think you've been uns*bbed for bouncing. 1. Send a message to majordomo@xmission.com with s*bscribe buffy (or buffy-digest) in the body. If you are s*bscribed, you'll get a message back telling you that you are. If you have been uns*bscribed, this will start the process to get you back onto the list. 2. Contact me (romana@mindspring.com) or Jill (jtkirby@mcs.com) for help. We will do what we can ASAP to help you out. 3. DO NOT send a test message to the list. You may send a buffy-related post to the list to test, but not a test message. If you have any questions or problems, please check out http://www.mindspring.com/~romana/buffylist/index.html. These pages contain information about the buffy list. Jill Kirby (jtkirby@mcs.com) & sah (romana@mindspring.com) Listowners, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Mailing List (buffy@xmission.com) ------------------------------ End of buffy Digest V1 #312 *************************** To subscribe to buffy Digest, send the command: subscribe buffy-digest in the body of a message to "majordomo@xmission.com". If you want to subscribe something other than the account the mail is coming from, such as a local redistribution list, then append that address to the "subscribe" command; for example, to subscribe "local-buffy": subscribe buffy-digest local-buffy@your.domain.net A non-digest (direct mail) version of this list is also available; to subscribe to that instead, replace all instances of "buffy-digest" in the commands above with "buffy". Back issues are available for anonymous FTP from ftp.xmission.com, in pub/lists/buffy/archive. These are organized by date.
