I know that last Spring we analyzed the shots of the opening credits to death (so the speak), but I don't remember this being done with the dream sequence. Most of the action shots in it (other than spooky graveyard/headstone pans) were later seen in episodes of Season One, except for one that I don't remember seeing. It shows a hand (apparently monster hand) smashing through some wall that has an Egyptian style design on it. Did anyone else notice it? I don't remember seeing it in an ep. I know there is talk of mummies for season two (I've avoided reading the details), but none of that footage would have been available when they made the dream sequence way back when. Was it perhaps demon Marc's hand smashing through the disappearing cabinet door in Puppet Show, or the hands of a vampire smashing through stuff that was piled-up to keep them from entering the Library in Prophecy Girl? (I've been unable to review either of these episodes to confirm). Or is it just a mystery? If it had been a demon or vampire making the new body I would have bought it but its impossible for a human to do what the kids did. To many people, the major component of magic is willpower: I wish for something to happen, and have such complete faith in it that I make it happen. The Hellmouth is a huge reserve of mystical energy. It turned a sleeping boy's nightmares into deadly reality. It could also inspire a couple of twisted boys to try to reanimate the dead, and because they wanted it badly enough, it happened. When they succeeded the first time, it gave them the confidence to do it again. Remember, Marci was just a normal girl whom everyone ignored, so eventually she believed she was invisible...and she became so. This may not change your opinion in the least, but it is a very plausible answer for why normal boys could reanimate the dead. Its turning the show into a soap opera. >> I agree to a point. After the first season, I think it's good to explore the personal dynamics of the group, because after last season everyone has to work out their feelings for each other. But I don't want to lose the focus of the series: fighting supernatural evil and sarcastic humor. If every episode deals with Buffy and Angel batting eyelashes at each other....yawn. "Angel" was such a good episdoe because it crystallized how they felt towards each other. In SAR it just felt mushy. And in the end folks, their relationship IS doomed. Buffy and Angel may actually love each other, but they can never consummate their love. Sex isn't the be all and end all of a relationship, but it is an important element, one that Angel can't fulfill. And if they love each other enough, the only way for them to stay together is for Buffy to become what she is meant to slay: a vampire. Unless they find a way to restore Angel's humanity, which is a major cop out. I can easily buy the fact that they kept tissue samples alive by running small amounts of electricity through them, and keeping them in saline solutions, so it's not a HUGE stretch for us to believe that, assuming they got to his brother's body fast enough to prevent decay of the fragile organs, they could reanimate the entire body, along with functioning organs, etc. Come on, now...you can believe that Buffy can keep all of her hijinks secret from her Mom and everyone else in town, you can believe that even after the Harvest episode, people didn't think anything was strange, ("Yeah Mom! These two rivalling gangs decided to come here to wage war, instead of staying in their own territory"), and that the frequent disturbaces at the funeral home and the graveyard don't convince the "authorities" (whoever they are) to investigatge or anything, but a "Dr. Frankenstein" ripoff is going too far? Wow, that was one sentence...I think I'd better go get some coffee. Several quotes from the upcoming show so I'll provide spoiler protection. NON SPOILER RANT ON Just before the BtVS promo was a 7th Heaven promo. I've never seen an episode and never really knew much about the show, but could WB pick a worse lead for Buffy? Yech. Tonight on a "very special" 7th Heaven. Of only Buffy were on a real network with a better lead I think we'd see much better ratings. Speaking of ratings, I read somewhere that WB is available to only 77% of the country. The big 3 at least are available to 99% (is there really any place you can't get the big 3?) Are these numbers figured into the ratings? RANT OFF - SPOILERS below As I said, the radio promo contained lines from tonight's show. I only heard it once and this is from memory so it's probably not exactly right. I also don't have what the announcer said and may have missed a quote but it'll give you the idea. The reason I'm sending this (besides the usual monday new episode excitment) is that I heard this promo and if Buffy were on right now I'd have to leave work to go watch it. This sounds like one really cool episode and one majorly cool bad guy. Giles: Spike has faced two slayers in the last century. He killed them both. Spike: The last slayer I met begged for her life. Spike: Don't worry, this won't hurt a bit. Buffy: You're wrong Spike. This will hurt you a lot. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Sep 1997 09:56:29 -0400 (EDT) From: romana@mindspring.com (sah) Subject: BUFFY: ADMIN: Netiquette NETIQUETTE In addition to the list rules, there are some netiquette conventions we are asking people to observe. 1. At a minimum please sign and put your email address at the bottom of the post. Some people's mailers strip out header information. 2. Be aware that the default reply to for the list is to buffy@xmission.com. It's very easy to send a post meant to go private to the list by accident because of this. Check your reply to: headers very carefully. 3. Don't send test posts to the list. Send a regular post with buffy content instead--it will provide the same information and won't clutter up the list. HOUSEKEEPING >From time to time an account starts bouncing. If we get three bounces from an address we uns*bscribe it because we get a bounce message from that address for every message sent to the list if they aren't on digest. This results in *a lot* of bounce messages to wade through in the administrative account. If you find yourself mysteriously not receiving list mail it's due to bounces, and no other reason. If we are going to remove you for disciplinary reasons you will be notified. Here are the reasons behind bounce uns*bs. 1. Full mailbox. This affects AOL users more than anyone else, though I suspect it's a factor for Juno, WebTV, and Hotmail users as well. These accounts have limited mailbox space and fill up quickly when not checked regularly. When that happens messages start bouncing. Both Jill and I strongly recommend that you go to digest if you do not have the opportunity to clean out your mailbox every day. Not only will it make us happy to not have to deal with bounces, it'll probably make your ISP happy as well. 2. Local configuration problems Sometimes an ISP goes down for no reason for a while, and we will receive bounces from an address. Your best bet is to contact customer support when that happens, then res*bscribe to the list once the problem is cleared up. IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE BEEN UNS*BBED Take the following steps in the order in which they appear if you think you've been uns*bbed for bouncing. 1. Send a message to majordomo@xmission.com with s*bscribe buffy (or buffy-digest) in the body. If you are s*bscribed, you'll get a message back telling you that you are. If you have been uns*bscribed, this will start the process to get you back onto the list. 2. Contact me (romana@mindspring.com) or Jill (jtkirby@mcs.com) for help. We will do what we can ASAP to help you out. 3. DO NOT send a test message to the list. You may send a buffy-related post to the list to test, but not a test message. If you have any questions or problems, please check out http://www.mindspring.com/~romana/buffylist/index.html. These pages contain information about the buffy list.
