Postulate: A guy named Vigius is involved in one of the crusades, he gets bitten and infects a group of knights. They attack a Turkish-held town on the way to Jerusalem one night, massive slaughter. They disappear by the morning light and the rest of the human crusaders enter the town. They have a victory and take the town, one of the survivors mentions Vigius' name and by the time the story gets back to Europe we have a 'good vampire' leading a crusade. Remember, anyone slaughtering a non-Christian was a good guy by definition. The crusades are full of bizarre stories on both sides. And since it probably happened after 1066, it might be too modern for Giles. I can see it now, A quiet candle-lit dinner and Ms. Calendar reading to him from the Fortian Times. That's romantic. So is he supposed to pretend he cares about Willow more than a friend just to make her happy? I doubt Willow would want that either. If you're going to call Xander selfish, you also have to call Buffy selfish for not falling in love with Xander. > for Willow going with Oz, I kind of thought he was cute. I doubt Willow would want that either. If you're going to call I agree with you. You can't force feelings that aren't there. I don't *blame* Xander for that. The only problem I have with this whole situation (and trust me, it's hard, he's my favorite character) is the way he treats Willow NOW. Maybe it's me, but it seems this season they've drifted as best friends. Buffy's insertion, whereas last year only strengthened their friendship, seems to have disturbed it somehow this season. I guess it just bugs me that Xander can say "you're my best friend" a thousand times, but he doesn't seem (again, maybe it's just me) to be treating her as such. I think someone else somewhere (sorry) mentioned that they're forseeing a Willow alienation period. I thought this in SAR when there was practically no Willow. It was re-inforced in SH and it's plain as day in IMG. This could prove to be a really great story arc, bonding their friendship (all THREE of them). I hope that's the direction Joss, etc. are going in. I've only seen a few of the first season, but I'm now a full-fledged addict. If my name sounds familiar, it's probably because I'm also a Forever Knight fan and an owner of the Forever Knight lists. I'm a librarian (a cataloger at the University of South Carolina), so I really loved the scene where not only was the Master coming up through the school library, he was coming up through the stacks! Btw, I thought the mummies were the most realistic I've ever seen outside of a museum. It must have taken hours of make up and special effects to get it done. When I saw the first shot, until it became clear that the thing was part of the show and needed to be physically on the set, I actually thought I remembered the figure from a photo of a European bog mummy. True, Oz only saw Willow and sort of "fell" for her, but hey, that's one of the ways people meet other people. By looks. Sometimes you know a person beofre you're attracted to them but other times it's based on physical attraction and then you get to know them. However, we could say that Oz also was attracted to the person he thought Willow was which can be seen in a glimpse by way of the costume she chose. It shows she's creative and not just a shallow girl who uses the costume party as a way to dress sexy (i.e. Cordelia). Second, we do have an idea of the kind of guy Oz is. We know he cares about more than looks because he chastized his friend for dating Trophy girlfriends, and he revealed he's interested in more than just looks. He's serious about his music (IMO) and is different from other doggy guys who just drool after the perfect beauty. He looks for something more. I like him for these reasons, not just for his Looks (which I don't even think are that great- I liked his red hair better) PoizonIvy: Vampire Kisser aca203@is8.nyu.edu Keeper of Xander's Wardrobe Keeper of Buffy's, Willow's and Xander's Togas Keeper of Ampata's Mummy Seal Proud NOSer Member of the DC/East Coast Buffy Crew Member of WL(SP) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 08 Oct 1997 14:24:42 EDT From: humorist@juno.com (Mike Kim) Subject: BUFFY: Willow & Oz sitting in a tree... Also email me if you are interested in the following: The Anthony Stewart Head Mailing List The Giles' Appreciation Society Panters The Buffy Beta Fanfic List Danke Sonja Marie - The White Rose @--'->-- http://www.eskimo.com/~whtrose/sonja.html Co-Pres. of the Jeff Fahey IFC - http://www.eskimo.com/~whtrose/fahey.html Paul Wylie Fan Pages - http://www.eskimo.com/~whtrose/pwylie/pwylie.html Owner of the Jeff Fahey, Paul Wylie, Anthony S. You may have noticed that many of us on the lists are becoming perturbed that Buffy seems to be losing a lot of her fights lately. She doesn't seem to be her old feisty, cocksure, season-one fighting self as of late. If this is a "new direction" for Buffy, will you please tell TPTB to knock it off!!! Most of us don't tune in to watch Buffy getting bested episode-after-episode, requiring intervention from Chris yelling, Mother chopping (though I liked a tough Ms. Summers), or a Mummy basically dying all by itself. You once compared Buffy to Xena in terms of fan base. But how often does Xena get her rear kicked? I, for one, want the return of Buffy who kicks rears instead of getting hers kicked, and who has major attitude on top of it! And I don't think I'm alone.... Thanks, Lisa Rose ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Oct 1997 16:54:58 -0400 (EDT) From: Monet Subject: BUFFY: Buffy getting kicked :) I wonder if maybe the reason Buffy isn't winning as many fights as last season is because maybe she lost a little "confidence" in her fighting ability. She did well in planning things out in "School Hard" but when it came to down right fighting, there may not be just as much "gung-ho" in her since her "death." I don't know, just a thought. And about what cars should they drive, I can definitely see the Buffster in a red or black Acura Integra :) Any one thing she'd be a great driver because of her quick reflexes? Or just another "typical" teen driver? G :) ==================================================================== Giles: "We'll deal with that when we've ruled out evil curses." Unless she happened to plug into a vampire web site. That part never really bothered me. I assumed it was one of two things: 1) She found a *vampire hunter* page. Or a vampire history page. Or a copy of an ancient text, etc. Heck, even on this list we've mentioned that the Malleus Maleficarum is on the net (even though that's witch related) and I think it was Preta who mentioned that text in French by Calmet -- if it's not in electronic form, I'm sure it will be sooner or later. Calendar isn't the only one scanning in books. 2) Giles knew about the feast of Vigius, but because of that pesky "extra lunar cycle" thought it was more than a month away. That's what happens when you look at your books, even if they were printed after 1066 (a H lley's comet year!), rather than the sky. So all Calendar had to pull up was some astrology webpage (since Sky & Telescope never mentioned it) and say, "Hey, Rupert, that conjunction occurs THIS month." This, of course, does not rule out the possibility that some computer nut got bitten and now stays up all day with the shades drawn playing on the web. If Angel has a phone and Spike has cable, then Dru can have a modem. :) That's gives new possibilities to the "dread machine." Buffy? Last time Joyce saw her she was with Xander! ("I knew I shoulda put a bell on her, too!") More importantly, what happens when Snyder apologizes to the Peruvian Embassy about losing her and they reply, "Her who? It was a *him*!" Definitely gang-related PCP-induced. I'm hoping Buffy at least had the wit to tell Joyce that, yes, she *did* just get up and walk away! Ah, but dear child-hater Principal Snyder (the Snide One) would see this as a golden opportunity to make Buffy's life even more of a living hell... Actually, thinking about it...this gets the Summers' off the hook, I think. They apologize for losing the girl--and find out their guest really should have been male. Poor Ampata clearly had a tragic accident after leaving the airport, and never made it to Sunnydale, terribly tragic. Probably caused by the young woman who vanished so mysteriously after the dance... Mummies make good scapegoats. I *think* this was on topic... ~Jacynthe Cboland@concentric.net "Gra, Dilseacht agus Cairdeas" http://www.cris.com/~Cboland/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 08 Oct 1997 17:39:03 -0400 From: Jim McDonald Subject: Re: BUFFY: BUFFY : Xander (possible spoilers) Francesco Loriggio wrote: > So our dear > friend Xander went from poor self-esteem to slightly egotistical.... > > Am I the only one who noticed this? No, I noticed it, but I didn't see where this was too incongruent with a teenager who thinks he's in love. For alot of people, high school is a series of ups and downs of random durations, and that's for people who haven't been attacked by giant insects or mummies. At this rate, Xander might be seeing the school psychologist before Buffy.... But then again, that sort of set-up seems to be popular when you have a minimal number of artifacts on display. Part of that "sacrifice" to "pots and pans" bait and switch. In real life, using the same basic set is certainly not unusual for any TV show. Producers call this "versatility." The WB probably calls it "economy." Of course, you would think that by now Principal Snyder would be wary of any fieldtrips to places with dark alcoves, and would certainly be paranoid enough to do a headcount before getting back on the bus! Remember though, that IMG's luggage didn't show up until late in the episode, so it was probably easy for her to say her bags were lost, and to snag some Buffy clothes. I think it is interesting too how they put Buffy and Willow in overalls the last couple episodes. I read somewhere that guys are very attracted to girls in overalls. Is that the theory behind W & B new style? Just a thought. =) I also would like to go on record as saying that AH is the first person I have ever seen that glows. She seems to be more beautiful every episode.
