So as not to be lonely, Gabriel could hook-up with Angel. No danger of Angel being too old for *that* girl. Why did she have to double-check the trunk when Giles came over? tKNOPAGAN, the first time that buffy opened the trunk she did not see the real ampatta because she was interupted by the doorbell. That's why Ampata , the mummy locked the trunk so that buffy wouldn't be able to open it and look inside. Based on the story that Ampata told buffy about the princess she knew I think that she was talking of herself. This is because the reason that Ampata was killed in the first place was because her society said she was chosen to her lp her people. And the pricess inthe story was killed to protect the Incans ( her people ) from the underworld. the stories are parallel. I had a little different take on this. I thought Buffy realized that help was needed and that Xander's getting Angel was a call to the calvary. Since WSWB I Buffy has come face to face with her own mortality. Her gratitude to Xander in the closing scene of IMG for saving her life in PG looked quite genuine and heart felt. What was it Spike said in School Hard about "This slayer has friends" ? I think one of the keys to Buffy's continued success is that she has support and I think she is realizing this as the season(s) mature. - --eMk ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Oct 1997 23:13:00 -0600 From: "Jodie King" Subject: Re: BUFFY: ANGEL.... > From: Kathleen Gadd > . Angel helps Buffy get rid of vampires. As he said in WTtH that he wants to "kill them all". Besides that fact that whe seems to be quite fond (understatement) of him, he is also her strongest ally when it comes to actually *killing* the bad guys. Why do people keep referring to Spike and Angel as "old"? By vampire standards, they're young'uns. Remember, Giles said Angel (at 240) was young for a vampire in "Angel", and then remarked on how Spike wasn't even as old as Angel (implying that Angel's not that old for a vamp, but Spike's even younger) in "School Hard". The Master was old (my guess is around 1000). I had the feeling that Luke was old (possibly 800 or so). Darla, I think, was around 400-500... that's old, but not *really* old. Maybe around middle age for a vamp. Absalom, I can't peg down, but my guess is he was somewhere between Angel and Darla (300-something). Bait-Vamp (that's what I'm calling him from now on) was old, I think, but not as old as Luke, or the Master. My guess is around 600. This is all speculation, of course, but his general demeanor gave me the feeling that he had some years behind him. Anyway, the main point of this message was that Angel and Spike are by no means "old", not be vampire standards. It isn't air that makes a body decay, it's moisture. Mostly especially the body's own digestive juices. (This is why eating roadkill-- unlesss it's *very* fresh-- is a Bad Idea.) The Egyptian mummies were well wrapped, true-- *after* they were (literally) salt-dried and had all their internal organs removed. (Except the heart, which the Egyptians believed was the seat of the soul. It was removed for the drying process, then replaced.) But Incan mummies, like Ampata, were (you should pardon the expression) freeze-dried-- left exposed on extremely high, cold, dry mountaintops to gradually dehydrate. There are also 'natural' mummies-- usually corpses of people lost in desert environments and covered by sand that just naturally dessicated over time. I've seen a few of these first-hand, one place and another. So, if Ampata's people were following the traditiona Incan sacrifice ceremonials, she would have been tied into basically a fetal position and left on top of a high mountain. I can't recall whether the sacrifices were killed before being exposed, but I think so... Of course, Ampata *wasn't* in a fetal position, but that's a minor caveat I can accept as a necessary plot point. She *did* look a lot like pictures I've seen of other mummified Incan sacrifices, otherwise. (I mean, of course, *before* she came to life.) Diane E "There's a demon in the internet."
