Wow, I totally missed that parallel between the two scenes (doh!), but you're right. At the risk of sounding maudlin, being in the other's space when he or she is not around strikes me as a personal exploration of the new lover, like watching his or her face as they sleep . And I loved the moment when big bad Angel turns around clutching tiny Mr. Gordo, like an anxious little boy who was prematurely robbed of his childhood (or perhaps his inner-childhood given that Darla presumably brought him over as an adult). Even Buffy's drawing attention to Mr. Gordo (cutely named) in Angel's hands (so as to tease him in a friendly way for such endearing vulnerability, IMHO) was a really cute moment for me. On a totally different note, did Worm-Man bounty hunter make anyone else think immediately of the sackcloth-clad Mr. Oogie-Boogie Man from "Nightmare Before Christmas"? I have to agree with a lot of the comments that Brian made. What sense would it have made for her to be an excellent skater? Like Brian said, Buffy said she hadn't skated in years, plus she's undergoing emotional distress. Many people confused that as SMG skating on the ice when it was actually Buffy. I'm not here to defend her skating, I've never seen her skate before, but the whole point is, that scene showed nothing about how good or poor of a skater SMG is because it was "acting." She's a great actor folks, but She was a competitive figure skater for 3 years and was ranked 3rd in the New York Sate regional competition. But that was a long time ago and I'm glad that she chose acting over skating. I don't think the scene would have been any better had she done some 360s and backflips on the ice. She wasn't in a contest, she was just gliding around on the ice, deep in thought. I liked the fact that she wasn't a perfect skater and fell, it makes it more interesting to know that the slayer's not perfect and can't do everything with ease. Where would the fun in that be? I'm in total agreement with Lawless here, as usual. Besides, I didn't think her skating was all that heinous. She did a couple of nice crossovers, and the fall at the end was obviously, as Lawless says, acting. She did look a little unsteady, but even if that's not acting, it's totally in character with someone who hasn't been on skates regularly for years and has lived in or near Southern California. I doubt she gets many chances to go skating on frozen ponds and such. ;) Wow, it's weird to be defending smg against her own fans. And, given the number of vampires in Sunnydale, I'm not surprised they have a hang out..or that it is seedy . As for the violence..Angel needed the information Willy had. Willy didn't want to tell. Angel is, after all, a vampire ..so his use of violence to threaten Willy seemed realistic. Plus..he could easily have been "play-acting" with no intention of actually killing Willy...Angel just wanted to scare him. (And it worked- Willy was about to talk). Given how Angel feels about Buffy, I don't think he would hesitate to "persuade" Willy with whatever means he thought necessary. >Another *little* nitpick I have is Giles snapping at >Xander. I was pretty mad that he got all over Xander's case. >What's Giles prob this week? I thought Giles was quite restrained and quite justified in "snapping" at Xander. Xander has become a one-liner machine recently..all he does is offer supposedly funny or ironic quips. Most of the time they fall flat. If I were Giles, I would have told Xander to shut-up a long time ago. I realize that "humor" is supposed to be Xander's way of dealing with stress but it is annoying -both in the show and real life . Giles is a stressed-out, serious-minded , very worried adult who has to spend all his time with teenagers...teenagers who frequently don't seem to understand how desperate their situation is. It is very realistic for Giles to get angry sometimes..I'm glad Josh showed that. I don't believe any adult could spend day after day with Xander and *not* eventually tell him to be quiet. If a vampire retains the knowledge and interests of the person before death...one could create vampires to fill various jobs. Need a researcher vampire? Kill a librarian. Need vampire who can fix things? Kill a mechanic. >question: so du Lac was buried in sunnydale. did sunnydale exist way back >then? was it settled, i mean. i sort of doubt it. did i hear 15th century? >when did the master take up residence? anyone? I belive Giles said du Lac was excommunicated "around the turn of the century". I'm sure Sunnydale existed in 1900 in some form. ..and we don't know when du Lac died..could have been 1950 for all we know. I wonder if the cure for Druscilla involves somehow draining the life out of the vampire who created you? Or perhaps it's just a way to get back at him for driving her mad before turning her into a vampire.
