At first I thought I liked this episode, but the more I think about it, there were two stories going on at the same time and neither of them had anything to do with each other. The cowboy vampires, the freaky eggs,....what do they have to do with one another? Nothing. Giving each one their own episode may have worked, but the two of them together just didn't do it for me. There were a few highlights ofcourse, (i.e. Xander and Cordy in class) and Angel as usual, but this one was just missing something. just my 2 cents. **************************** Buffy the Vampire Slayer Monday 9:00p.m. on the WB network "Feels like home,...if it's the 50's and you're a psycho."--Cordelia Chase Keeper of Cordelia's Adidas Sneakers **************************** - - ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jan 1998 13:49:30 -0500 From: Carolyn or Paul Subject: BUFFY: intro Hey Buff-o-philes: I just joined the other day and am finding the list quite entertaining so far. Lots of fun and lots of great opinions, questions and comments. Keep em coming. Im Carolyn, a 34 year old Canadian who loves all things horror and especially the use of humour and horror together. So, it is just natural that I love seeing Buffy kick vampire ass every week. I like how the storyline has progressed since last season and I think that is contributing greatly to the popularity of the show. Anyway...I have a few comments (sorry for the format of my post but it is a drag to reply on digests.) You wrote: >> Why should the demon inhabiting Drusilla care what >> (the demon inhabiting) Angel did to Drusilla's mother, uncle and so on? From how I figure it, Angel killed Dru's family before he bit her. This drove her insane. Her vampire qualities are exagerated because she was crazy before. The shows popularity is definately going up....the net has a lot to do with that too. Also tons of publicity lately (someone posted all of the casts appearances in this week alone...never mind magazines). SMG's part in a very popular movie doesnt hurt either :) By the way, I get Buffy 3 times a week here! She said they wanted to watch her put on her makeup and go out with her to a goth club. She refused. She didnt want to be exploited, but also because she is a writer and they would merely end up with footage of her sitting at her desk in front of a computer. Some of the members have teeth, etc, but stress that goth is a culture that goes beyond being a 'real vampire'. Unfortunately, I dont get the channel so I cant check it out for myself :( Have Fun! I just had to throw in my own $.02 :) Sandy Fields wrote: > I think Joyce is a perfect example of a single mom who feels totally > inadequate when it comes to being a parent to Buffy. Absolutely. I've gotten the impression in several episodes that she doesn't *like* laying too many ground rules, but she feels like she has no other option. All she knows is that Buffy stays out late, has weird friends, and is not the favorite student of the principal. I think her usual reaction of coming down hard on Buffy is sad, but understandable. > The problem is... this was the perfect time for her to *really* be a mother. > The bump on Buffy's head, the "gas leak", etc. were what she should have > been focusing on. YES. That bothered me. I expected her to just be glad that Buffy was relatively ok, and to worry about the bump on her forehead, and hug her and take her home. I also expected Buffy to come up with a better story, like, the gas overtook her while she in another part of the school before she could get to the library (as "evidenced" by the bump that she got on her head when she was rendered unconscious by the gas and fell and hit her head on the locker) - or at least some other similar story. > But with Buffy, I can well imagine that "let Mommy kiss > it and make it better" never amounted to much -- even when she was small; so > that kind of mothering went out of their relationship so long ago that Joyce > simply doesn't know how anymore. That's probably true. But even then, especially after the whole Ted thing, I would have expected Joyce to be a little more sympathetic and protective. BEFORE the Ted thing I might have expected her to be a little harsh. Otherwise, I enjoyed the banter in the ep, and I loved the cowboy and Buffy alternating fighting the "zombies" and then each other. This one I can answer from personal experience. Yes, I, too, was a Willow-ish high school nerd girl. I never got into trouble, all A's on the report card, teachers thought I was wonderful, etc. What that meant was that by the time I was a junior, my parents (although also quite strict) pretty much trusted me not to get into trouble. If I said, "Mom, I'm spending the night at my friend Buffy's house," she'd reply, "Fine. Will you be having supper with us, or over there?" She would have never considered checking to see if I actually was at Buffy's house. If I stayed late at school to research the lastest mystic threat to the world, a fast phone call saying, "I'm working on a special project in the library and I'll be late. Cordelia will drive me home, so you don't have to pick me up," would take care of everything. As long as Willow keeps her grades up and doesn't get caught by her parents in any lies, she should have no trouble spending the occasional night out. - ------ Amy Sheldon Member GASP - Giles Appreciation Society Panters Proud Buffyatric & Keeper of The Accent Amy.Sheldon@sff.net - - ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jan 1998 10:59:51 -0800 (PST) From: Sonja Marie Subject: BUFFY: Buffy Mention on XF Top 20 List Got my latest Top 20 and there was a mention of Buffy: TOP20 CHANGES IN THE X-FILES NOW THAT IT'S (allegedly) MOVING TO LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA... #6) The Chances for a X-Files/Buffy the Vampire Slayer cross-over just doubled. "Surprise" ... while obviously having more than one meaning here..first relates to a surprise party for Buffy. All her friends are trying to find the perfect gift for a Slayer. Giles is rewriting the Slayer Handbook in short simple sentences -with lots of pictures. Willow is writing an easy to use database of vampires. Xander is whittling a stake (hey..teenage boys can't help being phallic) Cordy is designing a chic outfit that won't wrinkle and will shed blood and vampire dust easily. Angel is boning up on something he hasn't done for a long, long time And our Ms. Calender is trying to perfect a spell to make Angel whole again....truly a special gift. On Buffy's birthday, all her friends hand over their gifts, except Angel (who insists he can only deliver his in private :::nudge :nudge::wink::wink:: ) and Ms. Calender, who is running late. She is still wrapped up in the computer lab with one hand on the keyboard and the other on a book of spells left to her by her great great great grandfather Carmen. Buffy and Angel retreat to Angel's lair. ::kiss::kiss:::fondle::fondle::: Just as things get interesting - Ms. Calendar (in an eerie split screen of mirrored actions) pushes "Enter" :::heh heh::: and the spell is cast. Buffy loses her ..innocence .....simultaneously with Angel losing his (previously lost and found) soul. Buffy opens her eyes to find Angel in full vampiric visage staring hungrily at her neck. She is understandably upset and pushes him away. She flees and Angel....with his last gasp of "humanity"..... rushes out into the rain and screams "BUFFY!!" Now..if this happened to *you*..what are the chances you would *ever* get near Angel again? What are the chances you would ever have sex again? Slim and none. So....are we about to see the last of the Angel & Buffy ? Will Angel be reduced to a bit player ..shunned by vampires and Slayer alike? Who can come up with a *realistic* scenario that will allow Buffy able to forgiven and forget the trauma of her "first time" and allow for future smoochies in the dark with Angel? Anyone?
