[take a breath S....resist the urge] My feelings for MM aside, I think this would violently change the direction of the show. The focus would be put on the gothicness and vampires rather than the real focus of the show which is a teenage girl growing up in a new environment and trying to adjust to the fact that she has had a destiny thrust upon her which makes living in this new environment next to impossible (witness Joyce's freak out in BE). It would SO be out of character for X. to "goth out" like that since by HS most people have found their "place" or personality type and have by then put aside or developed the rebellious streaks that cause them to wear eyeliner, walk around in torn lingerie etc. As for BtVS reminding someone of "Clueless" I don't see it unless you accidentally turn on UPN on Monday nights. :) All IMHO of course.... - - ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jan 1998 17:19:42 -0600 From: "S." At first, I thought his look meant the story was about the two of them and he couldn't believe she was telling the whole class. The first eps, Buffy notices the guy with the ridiculously retro clothes and declares that he is a vamp. The mirror in bad eggs took me a second, but i got it, as did most of you. As far as her having a sixth sense, that's probably a matter of personal interpretation. If you believe in that, then she has it. I doubt Joss will do much with it, though. > (One slayer in every generation... Kendra kendra kendra. What I gathered from that ep was that in some quarters, the slayer isn't an x-factor. people know who she is, and consider it an honor to have their daughter chosen. this makes me think (for some reason, no proof) that the slayer doesn't have any automatic (there's a word for that... i keep thinking intrinsic [sp] but i don't think that's it) mortality requirements beyond the obvious danger of constantly being surrounded by demons who wish to kill you. The Real Vampires on UPN I hope it comes as no surprise that this is on at the same time as Buffy. UPN's got rating needs too. i'll be watching buffy, especially since 'real vampires' don't interest me all that much. still, it's sounds like an oddly interesting show. old X vs. new X as well as general relationships I totally agree that Xander has changed. it's not super obvious, just subtle personality changes. [nothing to do with nicholas.] I identified with/respected/enjoyed the old X more. I was going to put a But here and talk about an example of the new X, but i can't think of any Definite x-amples. i'm sure the rest of you can. Certainly the cynicism/bitterness set in after buffy rejected him, and having cordy constantly bruising your ego can't help your outlook on life. [i do like their relationship, regardless. there's an odd justice to it.] I think we can sometimes see the old X poking through though. maybe he'll be back. woooo! good X evil X good Angel evil Angel. And, on this odd relationship quadrangle joss has going on.... [spoiler space for freedom of speech only regarding c-x-willow-oz] okay, i'm thinking willow is the one who walks in on x and c. she's upset, runs to/Notices Oz after the two parter, X is upset, everyone starts doing some serious thinking... x and c end up together by default, and they make an enjoyable couple. reminiscent of eighties movies in my mind. nerd gets the popularity girl because it's got this odd sense of karma, even though the nerd could just have easily gotten into a relationship with his nerd friend who's a girl. and oz and willow is a must. therefore xander can't hook up with willow. just hope no one gets killed off to ruin this cushy little set up. ~Lev - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- o0O The House of Rogue o0O http://thehouse.home.ml.org o0O Proprietor: Lev Rickards o0O E-mail: levtolstoy@geocities.com Potential Keeper of The Monkey's Pants.... - - ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Jan 1998 19:41:10 EST From: Jyinyang Subject: Re: BUFFY: Angel >Well, Angel *does* technically have a daughter. I'd like to point out that there are some people who just don't like to be interviewed. Harrison Ford is a very good example. He hates it with a passion, and because he can get away with it, rarely does so. Just because a person hates interviews doesn't mean s/he is a prima-donna. You can value privacy and not be a snob.
