Hopefully, after the > Halloween repeat, we'll have a new epidoe or two. Another reason for the repeat: CBS has the Winter Olympics. From what I've heard several networks are not airing new episodes during the Olympics. I think FOX is one of the few to challenge the Olympics with new stuff, but I'm not quite sure. That may explain why the big two part story aired now and not in the sweeps time. I, for one, am glad that our beloved show won't get pummelled in the ratings war by the Olympics. I'd hate to think that fans who just discover it might miss a critical new episode. Not that watching the re-runs is a bad thing, mind you.... I don't think that she couldn't kill Angelus. She didn't want to kill him. Buffy now has some serious issues to take care of. One of them is can Angel return? I think that TPTB are setting up a number of possibilities. If Angelus can get his soul back and become Angel again, why would she kill him? If he can't, and Angelus is here to slay (sorry: stay), why don't we have Buffy get inside his mind like he was trying to do to her? I think that the second possibility is far better than the first. My take was this is in the "too painful to even wish for" category. Buffy is feeling that getting Angel back is impossible. I read a fantastic (and rather long) short story by Karl Edward Wagner called "Beyond Any Measure" in an anthology of vampire stories that takes a unique look at the soul of a vampire. In the story, the doctor investigating it says "A vampire loses its soul when it becomes one of the undead. But the soul is deathless; it lives on even when its previous incarnation has become a soulless demon." The soul of this woman who was turned into a vampire was reincarnated into a new body and then killed the vampire her old body had become. I'm not sure how this would work for Angel, but I'm betting his soul is still around somewhere (maybe in Buffy's dreams), and maybe it will be reincarnated somewhere (we'll put it in Sid's wooden body for now *g*). I don't think Buffy is being punished or that she was used or that she has anything to be ashamed of (loss of self-respect as someone else said). Buffy slept with someone she loved who loved her. She carefully thought out the move and went through with it and it produced in him a moment of perfect contentment. As was repeated many times throughout the show Angel is "dead". Angelus said it "Your boyfriend is dead" and I believe Giles and Buffy also said it in one form or another. Angelus and Angel look a lot alike but are not the same "person". What Buffy is facing is most akin to: her boyfriend Angel was killed by Angelus. - -- John Nestoriak * "My shoes are too tight, but it Software Engineer * doesn't matter because I have The Telephone Connection * forgotten how to dance." jnestoriak@telecnnct.com * - Londo Mollari (Babylon 5) - - ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Jan 1998 11:04:08 -0600 From: Mike Gori Subject: Re: BUFFY: Xander & Cordelia Schimmel wrote: > >Cordy is in love with Xander, but doesn't want anyone-esp. him- to > know about it because she's aware of his feelings for Buffy! This is not the case in Anne's novels. First of all, Lestat was made into a vampire completely against his own will, and yet he's always saying how he's damned. Second of all, Anne has *never* resolved if there even IS a heaven or hell. She makes it quite clear that vampires may not involve any religious issues at all. For example, crosses don't harm them and they can enter churches. However, I don't see how any existing vampire lore come into play in the Buffyverse. Joss has done what he wants with the whole concept of vampires, and he doesn't feel obligated to stick with the old concepts and ideas. So while it's fun to talk about Anne's novels or Forever Knight, it does't really help us in the least in figuring out what the situation is with Angel or the show in general. - --T T(Tee/Tseeps on IRC) ******************** * tack@dorsai.org * *tseeps@hotmail.com* ******************** - - ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Jan 1998 10:17:27 PST From: "Black Fire" Subject: Re: BUFFY: Re: Angel's Apt. >Okay, i just had another stupid thought...where does Angel get the money to >pay rent on his apartment....? At first blush, no, but then, look at this: Your personality as a vamp seems to derive from your personality as a human. If you're a revival preacher before, you're a revival preacher after. If you're a bookworm before (oh! my poor Dalton!), you're a book worm after. If you're a mind-raping, woman-using, charming devil of an Irishman, you're Angelus. See how this works. Angelus was a young, cocky guy, big on the girls, very much aware of his own looks, used to getting his way. Maybe a little on the stalker side, but not real bad yet. Then he's changed. The demon takes all the darker sides of him way out to the line, and we have Angelus, the scourge of Europe. Then his soul is returned, and, God, he recognizes who he was (before the change) in everything that the vampire did. Yeah, he should feel guilty. If you think about it that way, he really should. Hi all, I am new to this list so quick intro... Name: Sean Jenkin Job: Software Developer Live: in Wollongong, NSW, Australia Age: 20 Sex: Male Right... Question... Buffy has only just started in Australia but as in the states it is growing a big group of fans. Last thursday nite (which is when buffy screens where I live) the Robot/Demon in the Internet episode was on. I was watching it again last nite when I noticed a little glitch in the show. I am pretty sure this would have been picked up on this list before but i thought I would mention it just in case. At the start when Buffy and Willow are in the computer room talking about malcolm, the camera zooms in on Buffy - the scene then changes to another computer in which buffy's picture and record appears. It says in the record she is a sophmore (spelling?) but then when the same record appears on Fritz's(???) screen it says that buffy is a senior... Anyway back to the real world now...
