To all of you who don't know good writing when you see it (or hear it in this case), THIS IS IT! It's one of the main reasons I watch Buffy. It didn't disappoint, I thought it was a great episode very funny. Liked the opening scene in the graveyard with Buffy and Xander, because we finally get to see Buffy's reaction to Xander/Cordelia together. They didn't bring it up during Phases and I was sure she would have something to say. "you can do better" line from Buffy was interesting, considering shes a free agent. "slaying is more perilous than dating. Your not dating Cordelia" LOL. But, I think we have done the "vamp rising from the grave while having a close talk" scene a little to much this year. Nice to see Amy back, I always wonder what happens to all the kids in the episodes we never see again. I do wonder how she kept her mother's magic, it was never really answered? What was with Xander wanting to talk to her, he always wants to talk to people. Jenny is back, I think you could see the cold front between her and Giles. Course Buffy didn't help matters, not that I would expect her do. Well it seems that the tensions between Spike, Dru and Angel are on the rise. Angel brought Dru a heart, an actual heart for Valentines day, gross, yuck and any other term you can think of. I just wondering how much longer before Angel decides to drop Spike and his chair in to a vat of Holy Water. Everyone as been talking about Spike trying to set up Angel, but I think Angel will turn on Spike first. I think wolf-boy should change the name of his band. I don't think its a good idea for wolfy to have a band named "Dingos ate my baby", be like a vampire in a group called "The Suckers". Willow's fawning all over Oz was strange, reminded me of how Xander used to act in front of Willow, when he wanted Buffy. I guess Angel likes to say it with flowers, I figured the flowers would be dead or the roses would be cut off. I thought for sure that Buffy's mom was in trouble when she went missing, I suppose Angel could have gotten her outside if he wanted her. Buffy dressed Xander, Ha, he did look a little Angel like. He really laid his heart open, just in time for Cordelia to filet it. Can't believe she would dump in the bronze on Valentines Day, what a bitca. I must agree with Buffy at the start, he can do better than Cordy. I thought someone must have given him a big red "D" for dumped to wear the next day at school. Bad enough for him to get dumped, but apparently the whole school knows. I was surprised that Amy let herself be blackmailed. We see later that she could have taken care of Xander pretty quickly if she wanted to. Funny he doesn't care if Cordelia loves him, he just wants to dump her. I guess revenge is a good motive. That was sort of sweet when we see that Cordelia was wearing the necklace, when Xander got it back for the spell. I kept waiting for some phrase in the spell to signal why Cordelia was unaffected, but I never really heard anything. I imagine Xander thought he had died and gone to heaven when Buffy started coming on to him. He threw out that lap dancing line as a lame quip, and she said yes. What was that loud bang, oh it was Xander's jaw hitting the ground. Looked like SMG went back to her Soap acting skills for this episode. Course then Amy comes on to him and everybody else, and we know its everyone. I guess that was a come down knowing that Buffy was under spell. But, did Buffy wait around for him that night, or did he call and cancel? Zowie, Willow waiting for Xander in his bed, neat room by the way. I was stunned couldn't believe that was our shy Willow sucking on Xander's ear. "I want you to be my first. Baseman, please tell me were talking baseball" LOL. "Act like a man and hide"LOL. I am glad he tried to let her down easy, Nick was great in the scene right balance between panic and shock. The long hall shot of Xander was super, all the women staring, the guys seemed to be pretty upset. Giles seemed uncomfortable on his high horse, given his past in DA.. I mean Xander did use a love spell but the results were an accident, unlike Giles who meant to release a demon when he was a young man. "Twice the fool" LOL. He tries and blocks the door and the doors open to the outside, ha, I like Xander but he isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. SMG went into Super- Soap mode when she comes in the library wearing only a rain coat. Loved the little music track that went with her entrance. I don't think "HOT" would be a sufficient a word to describe SMG during that particular scene. I guess Xander must have a will of iron, I don't think even Larry would have refused Buffy at that point. "Buff, for the love of god don't open that raincoat" thats a line to keep around for a while. Xander's speech to Buffy how he "wished it was her", and "what it would mean to me" was pretty sweet, I think that answers all the questions about Xander's feelings toward Buffy. Buffy really popped Amy a good one, right in the kisser. Then of course Amy turns Buffy into a rat. This is what I was talking about earlier, if Amy had such power why did she let Xander blackmail her. I thought that Jenny and Amy might get into it, the gypsy vs the witch on tonight's underbill. JW GASP Keeper" The Ripper" nickname "Buff, for the love of god don't open that raincoat", Xander BBB - - ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Feb 1998 10:27:41 -0500 (EST) From: cn2759@coastalnet.com (JW) Subject: BUFFY: BBB comments part 2 *Spoilers* Spoilers for BBB below Part 2 Oz shows up and sucker punches Xander because of Willow's crying. I'm sorry this is a little out of character for Oz. In Phases he lets Larry's crude comments pass without even trying to stand up for Willow, but now he attacks Xander. I think Xander should go look into some Silver Bullets, or at least kick his butt with some of those moves he remembers for being a soldier. Course thanks to Carrot top Buffy-Rat gets away. I guess the other women could sense that Cordelia didn't love Xander, so they start to beat her senseless, "knock that snoty attitude", LOL. Xander does like to save the day, he comes and carries Cordy away, very romantic. Now Willow has an ax, what is with her and tools? I guess what happened in Xander's bedroom was her worst fears realized, she confessed her feelings to Xander and he rejected her. Still glad Harmony was there to protect Xander, funny some wanted to protect him and others wanted him dead. Buffy's house must be close to everything, still what made them think that Buffy's mom would be immune? Seeing Joyce come onto Xander was pretty funny, and Cordelia's jealous reaction. Angel is back, man he is the proverbial bad penny. Guess he was waiting for Buffy. Why wasn't he waiting inside, since he can enter still, I assume. Angel throws Xander off the roof and Xander gets up, he should have at least had the breath knocked out of him. Xander knees Angel in the groin, why doesn't it work this time? Perhaps Angel started wearing a cup since Innocence. Then Dru saves the day, because shes under the love spell also. I guess now he and Buffy have something in common, they both know what its like to kiss a vamp. Still, having Dru under the spell was a great touch. I thought for a half-second she might sink her teeth into him, then the mob attacks. We finally get to see what happens with a vamp trying to enter a home without permission, almost like an invisible wall exists for them. The most interesting thing about this scene was that Angel back off from Dru. He didn't even try to take Xander from her, I thought he would. Says something about how he feels about Dru's abilities. Neat that Cordy and Xander took refuge in the basement again, back where it all started in WmL. Strange that Cordelia actual found it endearing that the spell was meant for her. Amy and Giles finally start reversing the spells, how come they needed a beaker of bubbling stuff for Buffy's spell, when she didn't need one when she turned her into a rat. I know it was a threat, but what was a black cat doing in the basement. Buffy changes back and is completely naked, wow!! it must be sweeps. Oz handled it okay I suppose, but I don't think that fact will help to bond him and Xander. I can hear Xander now "he saw you naked!", and what would Willow think. Cordelia was on her feet with the scavenge hunt excuse when the spell was broken in the basement. Still you have to wonder what Joyce thinks when she has broken windows, knocked down doors and wood planks nailed up. Still the HM mouth did its thing and almost everyone forgot. Course Buffy and Willow remember everything. Surprised that Buffy didn't try and fake amnesia like Xander did in the Pack. Buffy was very honest in her speech to Xander about remembering and thanking him for not taken advantage of her. "Hope for you yet", as opposed to what, he isn't that big of a letch. I guess that Willow did have a right to be upset, but Xander wasn't the one trying to cut somebody's head off. But, it was tougher on her than anyone else I suppose. Harmony must be one of the ones that forgot everything since he didn't mind busting on Xander again. Cordelia finally grows a spine, perhaps her time with the slayerettes has changed her. "how lame he is", maybe she hasn't changed that much. "We can fight a lot", looks like more fun in the making. I thought this was a great episode. Not only was it fun to watch, it appeared to be fun for them to shoot. I may be way off base, but it looked like they were having a good time. Kudos to SMG, and CC. Big "thumbs up kudos" to Nick, this was his episode and he delivered. They may have to try a spin on this episode in the future it was so funny. A spell on willow next time perhaps. I was wondering if they would keep Cordelia and Xander together or let them break up for good. Was a little surprised they brought them back together for a happy ending. Still left some questions in the air. Where does Giles and Jenny's relationship stand? Willow's future in respect to her feelings for Xander are also I think up in the air. Angel is still a threat to be dealt with. Also when will Dru,Spike ,and Angel have a blow up. Scary that Buffy's mom was outside twice when Angel was in the area, she came real close to buying the farm. We did get to see that Xander still has strong feelings for Buffy, and isn't over her despite what some think. I wonder where is Xander's experience with dating and other women. He is always talking about his bad luck with women like in IMG "run screaming", and in this episode talk of "restraining orders". Buffy didn't really give any indication of her feelings one way or the other. But she was strongly effect by the spell. Also for the second staright episode we saw a reduced role for SMG, half the time in BBB she was a rat. Both Phases and BBB had an ensemble feel to them. Maybe she needed a rest after all of her work in Surprise and Innocence. Finally, BBB was one rip-roaring good time. I'm > sorry this is a little out of character for Oz. In Phases he lets Larry's crude > comments pass without even trying to stand up for Willow, but now he > attacks Xander. The thing to remember here is that Larry is a "neutral" player. Remember that Willow has been carrying this crush for Xander for quite a while now and he's been pretty much oblivious about it. Meanwhile, Oz likes her and it takes her time to look past Xander and see Oz. So, I would think that Oz would naturally be a bit jealous when Willow called him to talk about Xander again. He would feel like he might be losing this wonderful girl who he has taken so long to get to know and fall for back to a rival who honestly doesn't even to seem to know she exists, except as a friend. That's why I think Oz punched Xander and just let Larry's comments go.
