People who want to rag on the show can just >bring that up; we're never seen (or heard for that matter) Angel being >in Giles's apartment This'll be short, 'cause I've gotten nearly 15 e-mails asking the same damn question. I'm just gonna' keep it simple: "Invisible Girl" -- Angel appears in the library and tells Giles that he can give him the Pergamum Codex. Later in the episode, Angel gives it to Giles after saving them from the gas. "Prophesy Girl" -- Ms. Calendar walks into Giles office just as he is calling Angel's apartment. Buffy later sees Angel and Giles conversing in Giles' office. Now, it may have never been seen by the viewers, but it isn't extremely likely and sensible that during this period, Giles gathered enough trust in Angel to invite him into his home so they could work together in helping the Slayer? We already know that Angel gave Giles his phone number and most likely his address, since that's the only explanation for Xander showing up at Angel's place. Therefore, Giles probably did the same, giving Angel access to his house so they could work together outside of the school. It's only a theory, but there's also the simpler reasoning: we don't see everything in the show. We never saw Jesse, Sheila, Ford, or Theresa made into vamps, yet they were. Is that a flaw? No. We never actually saw Cordy invite Angel into her car in "Some Assembly Required", but her request to take her home seemed to be enough for us viewers. So, why can't we take Giles' line in "Passion" when he talks to Willow, takes the book and says he better do his house next, as a fact and explanation that Angel has been invited into his home? Happened, not seen. (and kudos) I was surprised in "Passion" when Buffy, et. al., walked right by Angel killing that girl in the alley outside the Bronze. Isn't Buffy supposed to get a physical sensation when a vampire is near? I'm guessing this is another convenient plot thing--they use it when it helps the plot, and ignore it when it doesn't. And lest y'all think I'm a total nitpicker, can I say again--"Passion" was a magnificent episode. The acting on everyone's parts was superb (huge kudos to Alyson's brief but stunning reaction to Jenny's death). The continuing tension b/t Spike and Angel was developed effectively (and I suspect is some major foreshadowing). The prolonged stalking and death of Jenny Calendar was gut-wrenching but so much more powerful than something happening off-camera. Loved being teased with the puppy. Loved the opener (especially the transition when they showed the empty doorway, then someone walked past the camera and Angel was standing there). Loved Giles wailing on Angel with the torch. At the end of "Halloween," I was like, "This show can't get any better!" At the end of WML Part 2, I was like, "This show really can't get any better!" This is one question that I've wondered about... Clearly, the term "soul" doesn't mean the same thing as we in the Judeo-Christian world have come to think of it, i.e., one's consiousness or subjectivity, separated from the body at death (and before life??) If that was the case then one wouldn't expect the vamps to behave the way they do. Angel, upon losing his soul, wouldn't remember what it was like to have one. Clearly he does, as his pathological behavior towards those most closely associated with his gain and subsequent loss of his soul -- Buffy and Jenny -- demonstrates. But if soul just means "everything that makes you a good person" then we run into a pretty tricky question of morality, don't we? I mean, what one culture considers "good" may be considered completely antithetical to another culture's values. Furthermore, what is this ether where souls hang out? Is it just a holding pattern until new bodies become available (in which case we have some sort of reincarnation going on)... or is it another realm of consiousness (an afterlife??) in which case, why not just stake Angel now, since his soul is probably doing alright where it is now?? My second note regards the general anti-Xander sentiment, especially after "Passion." Personally I like X. and I think his jokes often provide a welcome diversion from the general heaviness of this season. Sometimes -- and especially in Passion -- they come off pretty tackily. But I'm not sure if that's because X. himself is a bad guy, but rather that he uses gallows humor as an escape mechanism. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Finally, I must say I haven't been this excited about a show since the days of good ol' STTNG.
