You've all given me a lot to think about and I'm going to try to answer some questions and clear up some in-inconsistencies that I have noted. So try to hang with me :) I have noticed that there has been a large amount of speculation about what the Rom in recent post. This is not at all unexpected due to the recent demise of our sweet Jenny. First let me get a small pet peeve off my chest. The gypsy are often referred to as the Rom , or the Romanii. While this is not necessarily incorrect it is good to note that the Rom are a tribe or family group of the gypsy. (Common usage does not mean it is correct.) However most gypsy accept this usage. I would also like to note that when Jenny's uncle said to her that, "You are Kalerash." he was referring to her family/tribe as well. This is probably not her last name. (Though case can be made that Calender is an anglicization of her tribe name, maybe she decided to use it to remind her of her responsibilities, and who she truly was.) Someone at one point asked how the Rom could have lost such an important spell as the one used to restore souls. I was surprised by hte response someone else made about the Holocaust. Good One! but it is also good to note that the Romanii language is a "spoken' language in that it has no written form. It is also highly idiomatic. Which makes it exceedingly hard to learn. If any of this throws you, the same applies to many Native American tongues. Think of the Dine (navajo) code talkers, same concept. Since romanii is an unwritten language, it is often put on paper as a phonetic language. So the book that Jenny had may be the only one like it, possibly someone's journal or grimmoire. In this situation it would be extremely difficult to translate, and if Jenny was the only possessor of it to have the know how to translate it using a computer, it's obvious how easy the spell would be to loose. On top of the translation problem, most Rom tend to shun outsiders. (Not a bad thing in view of the history of the Romanii people.) So it was probably encoded by the writer to make sense only to those who knew him and his code. (Sound paranoid, then I'm probably on the right track.) The Rom culture is immensely complex, it is also very insular. I was immediately intrigued by the fact that Jenny was gypsy, and hoped that some of the culture she possessed would be worked into her part. I am truly sad to see her demise. In case anyone is interested in the Romanii culture, you might want to check out the book "Burry Me Standing" it is a good source of info, a nice starting point and has a nice bibliography in the back. Spike joins the Slayeretts in their fight against the Hellmouth, causing Dru to go even more insane. Angel tries to kill Spike, but fails and Buffy puts a stake through her former lovers heart. And this is why I think that Angel is owed a backhanded compliment. I believe his love for Buffy has cut both ways. Sure it was the reason for the re-emergence of Angelus in the first place. But given this, I also think it's the reason she's still alive today (other than the fact that this is a TV show and she's the main character.) If Angel didn't love Buffy, then what would she be to Angelus. Another slayer and thus an important target to kill. If Angelus was unencumbered by his obsession with her, an obsession that is derived from feelings that Angel had, he might simply have killed her directly rather than toy with her as he has. It's true that Angelus has a history of tormenting his victims before killing or vamping them -- such as Drusilla -- but Buffy is a slayer. A clear-thinking Angelus might see the need to kill her quickly and efficiently. So on the upside, and in a strange way, perhaps Angel's love for her is the thing that's giving Buffy the time to come up with a way to rid the world of Angelus. Also, does anyone notice that the characters don't seem as concerned with the distinction between Angel and Angelus as we do? They certainly don't distinguish by name as some of us do; he's still Angel to them. Xander doesn't see much distinction between his dislike of Angel and that of Angelus, although one would think the two dislikes are for different reasons.
