(Forgive me if you have already been over this, I wasnot on the list when the ep aired for the first time.) My biggest problem is with Willow's line, when they are in the gym practicing self- defense. Willow grabs Buffy, who is acting very confrontational towards Larry, and says, "You're supposed to be a meek little girly-girl like the rest of us." I have to take offense at this. Just because a female isn't the slayer doesn't mean that she mush nessicarily be a "meek little girly-girl." I'm kind of shocked that Willow would say something like this. Wasnt she the one, who in Halloween said something about prefering being able to vote to wearing fabulous gowns and having servants? I have always seen Willow as kind of a feminist character, which further establishes her position as the foil for Cordelia's character. This ep is full of stereotypical gender references. Granted, most of them are made in jest, and don't bother me at all in that context, but Willow's remark really stuck in my brain. As I said before, please forgive me if this topic has already been discussed, but I chalk it up to all of the recent re-runs. With no new material, I have been forced to go back and scrutinize all of the more recent episodes. :) VampGirl - - ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Mar 1998 16:17:36 -0500 (EST) From: "F.Y.G." If they meant it to be an insult, then it'd probably say that she works too much and is trying to climb the ladder instead of hard-working and focused. The fact that she doesn't like to watch herself was probably meant to be more of a self- insult rather than a dig at her castmates. A lot of stars, whether television or movies, don't like to watch themselves on the screen because they never think that they look good enough or did a good enough job acting. The quote says she doesn't like to watch herself, not that she doesn't like to watch others but since she's in practically every scene, it's kind of hard to avoid watching herself during the show. Lastly, it's true that she doesn't always relate to people her age. I can relate to her character of BUffy a lot more than I could relate to the way SMG spends her life and time.
