On a side note, not off topic, I hope- For all you comic readers out there(who don't already know) -There's a comic coming out in May called Crimson. It features: 1. as the main character a 17 year old guy who gets turned into a vampire 2.he must live under the protection of an older vampire who has a curse, which, (of course) is that he's got a cursed soul! 3.together they must save the world from the most evil of vampires. (ala the Master?) But wait! it get's better! 4.His romantic interest is a teen girl part of an ancient sect of (of course) vampire/demon hunters... 5.And, finally the book is going to contain, along with other stuff-werewolves and angels... (Just thought a couple of those parallels were interesting) Also, do any of you know where you can order those Buffy tanktops (how appropriate) that were featured in the March issue of Previews? Having seen Four Star Mary and the guitarist, Zu, live, I can tell you that there's a lot more energy behind the performances, even the slow ballads. I find it funny to watch Oz now. Anime Nut's right, though. All the other bands playing at the Bronze are playing their own music. More often then not, when filming for Bronze scenes, there's no music actually playing. Everyone is dancing to absolutely nothing. The sound is then edited/mixed in, which is a difficult process if the bands have trouble lip-synching. At the end, there is a mention of WB programming being made available on cable for towns without affiliates! That would be great! -Rayne WB Changing the Network Landscape By DAVID BAUDER .c The Associated Press NEW YORK (AP) - Relations between television's two mini-networks have been, shall we say, a little tense since an executive with United Paramount Network last year wore a pin with the WB's mascot, Michigan J. Frog, impaled on a bloody stake. The two networks were born in the same month three years ago and, while neither is established as a serious rival to its four big brothers, UPN has generally enjoyed the upper hand. Recently, that's all changed. The WB has beaten UPN in the ratings for 15 consecutive weeks. And in February, for the first time,it didn't finish last during a ``sweeps'' period where ratings help set advertising rates. More importantly, the WB has created a buzz with the hippest of audiences - teen-agers - tuning in to the sex-soaked soap, ``Dawson's Creek,'' the stylish ``Buffy the Vampire Slayer'' and the family-oriented ``Seventh Heaven.'' Maybe that's why WB President Jamie Kellner's smile is a little broader these days. Lest we get carried away, don't forget that one of its stars is Tom Arnold. Still, it's headed in the right direction, and Kellner is now talking success instead of fending off questions about a shut down. ``I have never believed that we would fail based upon our own efforts,'' Kellner said. ``There were times that I was concerned that for other reasons we wouldn't be given the opportunity and I didn't like that. Since `Seventh Heaven' and `Buffy' started hitting stride, I have felt 100 percent comfortable that we would be successful.'' Kellner adopted the same strategy he used as the head of Fox in its formative years a decade ago: Go for the kids in the hope that parents will follow. The first part, at least, is working: The median age of the network's viewers is 24, according to a study released last year, and the WB is now the top- rated network among teen-agers. Kellner believesother broadcasters have ignored a family audience in a quest to be irreverent. ``When I was a kid, we had one television set and we all sat and watched together,'' he said. ``It was great. Now people find that the kids are watching in one room and Dad's here and Mom's down there. I don't think that's necessarily good.'' Yet should the family be gathered around the TV watching ``Dawson's Creek,'' which depicts one teen-ager revealing what TV newswoman inspires him to masturbate? Family shows don't have to mean G-rated entertainment, Kellner said. His definition of family also means a 16-year-old girl and her parents using ``Dawson's Creek'' to discuss the difficulties of growing up. ``Your two main characters are both virgins,'' he said. ``How that's irresponsible, I don't know. In a world where we watch the news at eight o'clock and turn off the volume in front of our children because we don't want them to know what's going on, I think this show at nine is fine.'' Kellner hopes to gradually increase the age of his network's audience with one show already in the pipeline. ``Felicity,'' a drama about a young woman going to college, has been described as a cross between ``Ally McBeal'' and ``Melrose Place.'' The WB's resurgence comes with UPN- now more careful with choices of lapel pins these days - in turmoil. The network changed management and focus within the past year, and the balance of power shifted when five local affiliates switched to the WB last summer. UPN is now targeting a blue-collar audience with shows like the soon-to-be revived ``Love Boat'' and a cartoon based on the comic strip character Dilbert. It will ultimately expose UPN to a larger audience, said Robert Rene, its executive vice president. ```Dawson's Creek' is not really a family show,'' Rene said. ``It's a teen show. That's great, but that's really a niche audience. We are much better off returning to the notion of broadcasting that speaks to a much wider audience.'' Next year the WB will probably expand broadcasting to five nights from four. It hopes to widen its audience later this year through distributing their programs on cable to small markets with no affiliates. It's a sobering reminder of business realities that temper enthusiasm for the WB's programming advances. Both of the small networks have less than half the number of affiliates of NBC, the top-rated network. And on an average week, they have about a third of NBC's audience. ``Over time, is it tough to make the case for a fifth and sixth network? Sure,'' said Christopher Dixon, a television analyst forPaineWebber, Inc. ``It would be great if these two could combine forces, but that's not going to happen.'' Michigan J. Frog may not be leaping, but at least he hasn't croaked. - - ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Mar 1998 11:34:06 EST From: CatDancer8 Subject: Re: BUFFY: I can not get into the old Offical site In a message dated 98-03-24 09:56:51 EST, you write: << I was wondering if anyone else is having problems accessing the first offical site. Surely they should use this valuable time to chat more with the guests. However, what was nice that Charisma joined the band and there were clips of her throughout the rest of the show.
