I did not post to buffy-l@planetx, I don't s*bscribe to planetx, I have no way of responding on planetx (other than to s*bscribe), and I would prefer not to be involuntarily cross-posted, though I assume it was inadvertent (and not the result of a demon :)). I would be grateful to Jesse if he would cross-post my response, though, in this case, so I can correct any misapprehensions on that list. Second, though I think Jesse has a point, whether Angel is "in the trunk" (as formerly), or thrown out of the car entirely (as seems to be the case now) doesn't affect whether he is responsible for the actions of the driver who has hijacked his body. He isn't. I speak only for myself, but at no time did I suggest that *Angelus* shouldn't be staked to protect others. I only said that *Angel* shouldn't be blamed. Third, Jesse expressed what I took to be concern about exculpating abusers. (Perpetrators of abuse who later claim they "weren't in control.") I entirely agree with this concern, under no circumstances do I condone abuse or violence of any kind, and under no circumstances do I excuse criminals on the grounds that they "weren't in their right minds." (Unless they *are* actually uncontrollably insane, or perhaps, in a few cases, suffering from multiple personality disorders, which would be more closely analogous to Angel's case.) However, Angel's situation, *as Joss has created it*, is NOT that of an abuser who is trying to excuse himself. It is that of two separate entities, a person and a demon. The person is the victim of the demon, and is not responsible for the demon's acts. This is not a real-world scenario, obviously, and if, in the real world, Angel had committed these acts, I'd be extremely skeptical of his "demon story," and would not want to see him exonerated. In the Buffyverse, though, as far as I can tell, Angel is totally innocent. I think it's safe to say that from a reality check stand point, yes she should. (TV wise is a different story all together). Angel and Angelus are two different people, but I think if Angel could say it, he would tell Buffy to stake his demonic self. I'm not saying Buffy should shut down her emotions (even with special powers that's impossible to do), and love is one of the most powerful forces on earth. What's getting me, however, is that it seems like she really does love Angel more than her mom and friends. Willow, Xander, Giles, and Joyce have had their lives on the line and I know if my "love" was threatening to kill them, he's staked! It maybe just me, but I think friendship and family come before boyfriends. My mom gave me life and friends like Xander, Willow, and Giles who have put their own lives at stake deserve more than just mere school bud status. All of them have been there for Buffy before Angel, and they haven't lived 243 years. G :) ========================================================= "We both know that there are real monsters. Anyways, here's the storyline of this weeks episode (shown earlier this evening in Canada). S P O I L E R S P A C E The episode opens at The Bronze, where a guy tires to get Buffy to ask him to the Sadie Hawkins Dance (please excuse my spelling, we don't have those types of dances). Buffy refuses, saying she isn't planning on seeing anyone anymore. After that Willow tries to console her about Angel, saying it's time she moved on. It then switches to the school, where two students are arguing in the hall. The guy pulls a gun on the girl, but buffy stops him. They don't remember why they were fighting, and the gun mysteriously disappears. Mr. Snyder calles Buffy into his office, accusing her of conspiring with the two students and the janitor about this. After Willow finished teaching her computer class, Giles comes in to see her. Willow gives him a rose quartz that Ms. Calandar thought had special healing powers to him, saying that Jenny would've wanted him to have it. During class Buffy dreams she was in the past, where she sees a student talking to his teacher. She then returns to the present. [meanwhile odd things are happening around the school] Xander opens his locker while talking to Buffy, and a hand jumps out to grab him. It tries to pull him into the locker, before Buffy closes the door. As the other students stare at him, he tries to calm down. Buffy opens the locker and sees no sign of the hand. Buffy talks to Giles, who says that the ghost of a person is haunting the school. As a teacher leaves, saying goodnight to the school janitor, they both take the roles that the two students were acting out earlier. Giles hears arguing, and runs out in time to see the janitor shoot the teacher, who falls off a balcony. Giles trips the janitor as he leaves, and the gun dissovles into the floor. Angel, Ducilla, and Spike enter a garden for their new home. Jealousy and the usual tauning continue. The next day, at the Library with the gang, Giles claims that the ghost is Jenny, and won't be persuaded it's not. Later Willow looks through computer files and finds a clipping on the death of a student and teacher from 1955. The students go to the cafeteria for lunch, when suddenly all the food turns into snakes and Cordillia is bitten. The police, animal control, and ambluances arrive on the scene, and remove most of the snakes. The school board chair talks to Mr. Snyder, who mentions a comment about "Soon people are going to find out about the Hellmouth". More evidence that he knows more then others think. Later, in Buffy's room, Willow comes up with the idea to exorcise the ghost (against Xander's idea to nuke the school). They decide to make a triangle of three people, with Buffy at the centre. The "hot spot" is the balcony, where the teacher was shot in 1955. As they enter the school, all the doors suddenly close and lock. The scene switches back to the garden, where Dru has a vision about the ghost. Angel decides to take advantage of this. Back at the school, Buffy walks to the music room and sees the student and the teacher dancing to the music from 1955. All of a sudden the student's face dissovles, leaving a mess of gore. Meanwhile Cordillia, in the Girl's batroom, has her face turn suddenly dark red, an arm comes out of the floor below Willow on the stairwell, and Giles saves her, deciding it's not the ghost of Jenny. The clock suddenly strikes, and the gang lights their candels and chant a spell. The wind blows out thier candels, and blak wasps fly through the school as they run to get out. The wasps surround the school. Back at Buffy's house, later, Buffy claims that the student doesn't deserve forgiveness, as much as he may want it. Buffy argues some more, saying that the student shouldn't have harmed someone he loved. Cordillia makes a comment about how Buffy can relate to the student and teacher. As Buffy enters he kitchen, she finds a poster from the dance in 1995 in her pocket, and leaves her house. She walks to the school, and the wasps part to let her enter. Willow enters Buffy's kitchen, and sees the poster. They go to the school and Giles notes that no man is in the school to play the student's part, so she's safe. Buffy walks the corridors of the school when Angel walks in. She plays her role as the student, and Angel doesn't know whats happening. As he walks up to kill her he suddenly takes the role of the teacher. They switch between the image of themselves and the teacher and student in the following scenes. Buffy pulls out a gun, and shoots Angel. Angel falls over the balcony, dead. She goes to the music room, and is about to shoot herself when Angel walks in to stop her, still in the role of the teacher. Angel says he forgives her, and they kiss. As they kiss the ghosts dissolve into a white light above them, releasing Buffy and Angel. Angel suddenly realises that he's kissing Buffy, and runs as fast as he can out of the school. In the library, Xander says that all the snakes and waps disappeared. Buffy says that she was chosen to play James (the student) because he could relate to her. Angel, in the garden, splashes water all over himself. Thourghly disgusted, he decides to go out with Dru for a meal, taunting Spike. After the leave, Spike stands up from his wheel chair fully recovered, and kicks it over. - - ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Apr 1998 21:43:36 -0400 (EDT) From: "Jeff Reid (SpaceMOO Admin)" Subject: BUFFY: Spike! Yes. Oddly enough it's the women (teacher) that posseses him. Although that was explained at the end. It sure made things interesting to see Buffy shoot Angel. It's good to know that she finally got revenge on him by shooting him in the heart. Although I'd imagine even more damage was done to her after she kissed Angel and he ran away.
