Some stuff in the show is new (Angel, Darla) but every other characer in these eps has a counterpart in the movie: Willow-Cassandra Cordelia-that chick I forget her name but Hilary Swank played her. Xander-Pike the Master-Lothos Luke-Pee Wee Herman Harmony- Jennifer Jesse- Benny These es combined are way better than the movie but they definately have some recycled material. Emily - - ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 May 1998 21:42:51 From: Jeff Rohaly Subject: Re: BUFFY: Commercial time (was Delurking for a moment) Matthew Peterson, quoting Time magazine: >11:12 - Average number of commercial minutes in one hour of prime-time >network programming, up 14% over 1991. >23:46 - Average number of commercial and promotional minutes in one >hour of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. Note how they're not comparing the same thing here, but are trying their best to make it look as though they are. The 11:12 is just for commercial minutes; the figure for Buffy is commercial *and* promotional minutes. Secondly, I'm sure this is some sort of mistake. This article is just re-stating things I saw in an AP wire article about 2 weeks ago. In that article they didn't explain the way this number was derived, but since it says "average" here it sounds as though they didn't just find one particularly short episode but that, rather, it's a systemic thing. But I've timed the two episodes I've seen since I saw the AP article -- Welcome To The Hellmouth (just part 1), and Go Fish -- and they both came to somewhere between 41 1/2 and 42 minutes. That's not including the little intro at the beginning, the opening theme song or the closing credits which would easily add a minute or more. Shouldn't The WB be issuing some sort of press release to clear this up? I'm all for publicity, but this isn't the ideal type, especially if it really is wrong.
