All week I have been wondering how Angel would get Giles to help him. Think about it: Giles knows if he tells him what to do he (and the rest of the world) will go straight to hell, do not pass Go, etc. What torture would be worse than that? Ah, Joss, the great god of all things Buffy, what a scene! He actually pulled it off and made it believable. At first I thought Giles would figure out it was a trick, but then I looked at his condition. Probably lost a lot of blood, delirious anyway, wow. Very convincing. One question remains, though I admit it is kinda rhetorical. Why does Spike want Dru back after mashing Watcher face? Buffy summed it up, "Your girlfriend is a ho, allow me a moment to not care." No, I don't think she's much of an actress. That is, she can sound very sincere, but I don't think she can do _characters_ -- that is, she's just "being herself," and I don't think she has much of a range. This whole thing came up because I originally posted that DB's lack of talent made him a dangerous choice to carry a series -- and I stand by that assessment. Fun in NYC This following thing is about David B.'s appearance at the WB store in NYC today. I didn't get to see or meet him myself, so I'm just warning you now! It's really long and it's mostly about scary/funny fans....and there's a slight *SPOILER* rumor possible thingy about third season and the spinoff...but I'll mark that. It's nothing big really. David B. was supposed to be making an "in store appearance at the WB store on 5th Avenue and 57th street in New York, at 4:00 PM, so two of my friends and I, being obsessive Buffy-the show fans and possibly also obsessive Angel fans, but not, I repeat NOT obsessive David B. fans who are madly in love with him and/or want to have his children, thought it'd be great to check it out, "Angel" himself, hopefully getting to meet or at least see him. We figured there would be a lot of people there, but were really hoping it wouldn't be filled with a horde of teenybopper girls in love with him. More like a giant mob of people- it was really impressive actually! And yes, there were a lot of young girls, but there were also lots of people from all genders and age groups. The store had made some sort of pathetic attempt to put up those little rope line thingies, obviously not expecting so many people either, so we got on what appeared to be the end of the line, though it wasn't going anywhere. As far as we could see, nobody was getting in or anything. But the mob continued to grow. We were surrounded by teen-ish girls, and it was funny because nearby, at the curb, were a couple of teenage guys who were apparently too cool to participate in the mob. There was a lady with a baby, who screamed about how she had been there since noon and that nobody had better cut her in line , except she added quite a bit of of obscenities! Every once in a while she would hoist the baby up, since the baby had a better view.(and the baby wanted to see David why?) A boy in front of us frantically waved his "These people are cutting the line!" sign. People were staring at people in the windows who were waving. We were right near a door, and every time the door opened, people began to scream hysterically(what does that accomplish!?!?!?) , though he would have to have been insane to leave the store. At this point we began to feel sorry for him, rich or not. If I was him, I would have been terrified. We laughed. We wondered if all these people knew he was married. Someone replied "Marriages can be broken up!" (Sorry this is so long!) After about half an hour or so, realizing that we weren't going to get in, the line wasn't moving, and that we weren't willing to fight scary fans through the line, we decided that we should probably get going, and rounded the corner to check out the rest of the crowd before we headed off for the trains. At this point, we realized that anybody could get in. The store was open, all you had to do was go through the doors! Apparently, a large portion of the crowd hadn't realized this, or that the line wasn't really moving. So, we entered the store, which we had wanted to do anyway, but hadn't thought possible. On the sixth(?) floor, my friends, being positively evil, gathered near the window to wave at some people they knew, knowing that they would think we had magically gotten in. They proceeded to shake there fists at us, and it was probably good we couldn't hear what they were saying. After they mouthed "How?!!" we instructed them to go around the corner where the door was. They, and a bunch of people, began to follow them. We decided that we could meet them at the ground floor. However, by the time we got down to the ground floor, it seems that somehow a large group of people were mobbing the front entrance, I don't know why. Not only were they not letting anyone else in, it seemed they weren't letting anyone else out either! Figuring we weren't getting out anytime soon, we figured we might as well check out the 3D movie playing at 5:30 on one of the higher floors. Considering he was only supposed to be there until 5, we figured the crowd would start to leave. Once on the 7th floor, we were able to see the 5 or 6 !!!cop cars!!! on the street near the people. Poor guy! We heard some employee mentioning how they already got rid of the limo, and were trying to find a way to sneak him out....the crowd was thinning out though, which was good! We got into a conversation with a lady from the Bronx who told us why there were so many people there (besides angel lust!) - it turns out local radio station Z-100 had been broadcasting the info all morning, and I think she said he did an interview on it, but I'm not sure. So we got to talk with this cool lady about the show, the pants, the mob, etc. ****SPOILER MAYBE**** She told us that she heard that David only has a contract for half a season, the second half, and that the second half is when he's making his return. She also mentioned that she heard his spinoff will be about Angel's past. *****END SPOILER******* I don't know if any of that is true or not, and I'm tired of speculating, so, anyway, she also said that she had been in the store when he arrived, rightly figuring that he would have to go through the lobby of the store to get in, and that she saw him and got to shake his hands(he was shaking a bunch of hands) He was dressed for the part, in all black, and his hair was dark, too. (Didn't he have blond streaks? Not on the show- in recent pics...) Returning to our "we feel so bad for him!" discussion, she said he did look kinda scared and keep looking behind him. I swear, if that mob got their hands on him! ;) Supposedly about a 100 people got to meet him and get signed pics, and maybe t-shirts. This is getting way too long, so I'll finish up. When we were leaving, at 10 to sixish, there were still people pressed up against the doors, despite the fact that he was probably long gone. We finally squeezed through the door, and a guy talking to one of the employees said that they had to get a helicopter to get him out. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that he was lying, but it would have been damn funny if it was true!!! And that's pretty much it. Never underestimate the power of obsessive Buffy fans! skitblink@juno.com _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. This is a preliminary figure and is subject to minor revision when the final national ratings come out next week. Dawson's Creek got a 5.2/9 for its finale. For comparison purposes, the last four new Buffy episodes had the following national household ratings: Becoming, Part 1 had a 3.8, Go Fish and IOHEFY both got a 3.6, and the last episode before the 7 repeats, Killed By Death on March 3 scored a 4.1. There are tons of different ways of looking at all this but I'll just provide a few comments. 1. It was nice to see the audience build back up somewhat over the last four shows; B2 represented a 17% increase over the national audience for IOHEFY, the first ep after that string of 7 repeats. But it only really built back up to the level it was at just before that string of repeats. (The same thing is true of the overnight ratings, that represent the viewing audience in only the large TV markets and that I posted earlier today.) 2. Unlike the first season, Buffy *did* experience audience growth over the year. Last season, the two hour premiere of WTTH and The Harvest got a 3.4 national rating. It then dropped like a rock and was at a 2.0 just two weeks later and didn't recover back to a 3.4 until the third episode of *this* season, School Hard. Last season, the finale's ratings (Prophecy Girl) were 18% lower than the season premiere's. This season, the finale's ratings are 45% higher than the season premiere's (WSWB, which got a 2.9). If you prefer averages, this year the final three eps had an average audience 22% larger than the average audience for the first three eps of the season. Last year, the final three new eps had an average audience 12% lower than the average audience for the first three eps of the season. 3. If anyone out there has figures on the key demographics of adults 18-49 (or even adults 18-34), please post them. It would be very interesting to see if the trends there mirror the trends in households this season. That is, slow growth last fall followed by a sharp upward spike with the switch to Tuesday, followed by erosion until an upward tick at the two part finale. When he first came to town, he was very cocky and thought he was so tough, but after losing to Buffy again and again, he changed his tune. Remember the Halloween episode? He was about to kill "old-fashioned" Buffy, but when she went back to normal, sprang up and began fighting him, he ran away. Then when he was doing the ritual to restore Dru, and Buffy and Co. showed up, he didn't finish the ritual - he just muttered "I hope that's enough" and tried to get Dru out of there, and the church collapsed on them. After that, it was like all the fight had gone out of Spike. He was in the wheelchair, very depressed, and he said to Dru, "Sunnydale is cursed for us. Nothing comes off like it's supposed to." And then, when Angel started taunting Buffy with roses, killing Willow's fish, etc., Spike complained that he should just kill Buffy, not taunt her - "We're just going to end up with one incredibly brassed-off slayer." He knew Buffy's power at that point, and didn't want to get her any more angry than she already was. So while I do think Spike wants her dead, I DON'T think he's going to go after her himself. He's afraid of her, to be perfectly honest. Also, unlike Angelus, Spike doesn't HATE Buffy. Spike wanted to kill her for 2 reasons: first, killing Slayers is good for his reputation, and secondly, a Slayer obviously interferes with a vampire's plans. With the Slayer gone, vampires can do whatever they want without watching their back. So for practical reasons, of course he wants her dead. But it's nothing PERSONAL. Whereas Angelus really hates her and wants her to suffer. That's why I agree that in a way, Spike does admire her. That doesn't mean he LIKES her, or that he doesn't want her to die - it just means he admires her toughness. He HAS to, really: the only way he can handle the fact that she defeated him is by thinking of her as really, really tough, so powerful that NO vampire could take her. When I got into the house, I knew 1) Angel didn't get his soul back or 2) something else evil happened. Why? Because my sister didn't come screaming out at me that the episode was the best. In fact, when she did come out, she was almost crying. Well, I got the plot on the second supposition. I was SO happy when Angel got his soul back. And then I didn't breathe for the longest time when Buffy "killed" him. I was going to die myself. But at least he didn't get staked or anything. :( Xander is a jerk. I'm sorry, but Willow told him expressly to tell Buffy that she was doing the curse. Yes, it probably did do better in the end, but it was rotten of him not to tell her. What does Giles say after he tells Angel he needs to wear a tutu???? Go Spike! Loved the "Happy Meals tm (just in case lol) with legs" line. The entire scene with Spike, Joyce and Buffy was great. Though he did turn into a traitor. As for the Angel show, give it a chance. How many people would have watched Buffy without first seeing it? I didn't. I thought it sounded dumb until my sister showed me an episode. One thought on the matter: Angel in LA, Buffy's dad in LA. Who else can Buffy go to but her dad? So they're in the same city again. Unless something happens next season which it undoubtedly will and my idea will be eliminated immediately. Oh, well. I've written plenty. So I'll stop. Elizabeth P.S. I've seen the show at least 5 times since last night at 10 pm. Which means at least 4 of those times were today! Thank heavens my teachers are laying off the homework. So, we are a bunch of BtVS fans, please let's live together without fighting or wanting to chop everyone's head off. Aida and Fernanda - -- "If I fail, at least I will have failed my way instead of failing someone else's way" Jodie Foster (actress and movie director) - - ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 May 1998 21:37:18 -0500 From: NiK Subject: Re: BUFFY: First season reruns? > Yup they're starting over again.....we get to see the whole twoparter since >we have two hours of Buffy now. That is so awesome! I have been waiting to see that ever since i started watching buffy regularly (The valentines day one). Well, I am very excited for this. - -NiK panam@mail.execpc.com - - ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 May 1998 21:32:20 -0500 From: Clark and Erin Hutton Subject: BUFFY: Re: several threads A few notes about some things I've been reading: To the poster of "...Does anyone know...what the Whistler meant when he said had one thing left to lose..." - -I assumed he knew that the sacrifice of Angel was coming. Sorta a "You think you've hit bottom now... just wait" statement. Leave it to Joss to fool us into thinking the Buffyverse can't be any more painful... I'm still on the Jenny's spirit possessed Willow trip. While I concur that the Angel stabbing/Willow jumping is probably accurate, I don't think Angel has the power to possess someone (especially when the spell is to restore his own soul). Is anyone else bothered by the whole blacked out car deal? It has bugged me ever since we saw Angel driving in L.A. If Angel wouldn't take a plane (in Suprise)because he couldn't guard against the sunlight, how is driving any different? Won't the tiny clear patches at least cause some discomfort (at least)? Snyder...do you think we could import the hyenas again? Man, I want to see him go down-HARD! Finally, for those who don't believe that SMG can act... You certainly have the right to your opinion. People on the show bug me from time to time. However, Sarah has delivered incredible some incredible performances on this show. She has brought me to tears on many occassions. The scene last night where she is watching the gang wait for her was remarkable...she spoke volumes without saying a word. Not every actress can do that, and I believe that this is only one of many examples. After all, if she wasn't talented, why would I still be depressed about something that happened to someone who isn't real? Just my two cents. By the way, thanks to whoever posted the SMG/DB interview. It somehow makes the finale richer to know that Sarah and David were also truly moved by the ending scene. I'm with them--I'm not ready to let it go either. If anyone sees that the WB is planning to run "Angel" again, will you please post it? It's the only ep I don't have taped ( and unfortunately have never seen). Do you think if enough of us pestered the network they would do a Buffy Marathon? Just think- 24 hours of Buffy- what a happy dream! Thanks for indulging the disjointed nature of my post!
