The character of "Willow" is a great counterpoint to an otherwise dark storyline. Willow's innocence and naivete is refreshing. She "thinks" real world (school, homework, dating, lunch) and she has to think twice when it comes to werewolves, vampires, demons. You can almost *see* the gears switch into supernatural mode everytime she says, "Wha...? Ooooh! Eww." She and Oz are a perfect match and I'd be upset to see their relationship disintigrate because somebody in a production office wants Xander to become Dawson from that-other-show. And I *surely* don't want to see Buff and Xan together. It's too obvious and a bad match to boot, in my own (humble) opinion. I'm probably one of the few who shrugs about the Buffy-Angel match, too, though (put down those rocks!) :) I mean, it's interesting for now, but I can't see where it's going to go (once he returns from the sunny beaches of hades, that is). Unless they come up with a cure for unnatural immortality, it can only end badly. [Though if some snitty vamp turned our slayer into a vamp, and if Willow set up another demon snare, and we had both of them immortal going around killing other vamps... truly the dark avengers. But I digress into cliches] The flipside of that is the anti-fountain of youth, where there's rumored in some ancient text (ancient text: See Ruppert Giles, library) about some bizarro cure for vampirism, maybe hidden in the Master's old lair, that could cure Angel... but then he'd lose some of his glamor. Boy, I really got far from my point. Apols! Willow adds balance and diversity, just as Cordellia does. And hooking up everybody with Buffy, to me, would be like painting over a multi-colored picture with all orange (sorry Jennie, I had to say it.) I just hope they don't turn her into a mini, female version of Giles. And, PLEASE, get her out of that classroom! She's Willow, not Wesley. Cord: "Who do they think they are?" I also profess to prefer the stand-alones rather than the arc episodes but in my list most of the arc episodes, with a notable exception or two, ranked pretty highly. In the other lists I've seen, the top spots are usually taken by the Becomings, Surprise/Innocence, Passion and so on, albeit with the occasional appearance of BB&B or Halloween. I guess one possibility is that those arc episodes really are "better". I'm not sure exactly what that means. Maybe more time and effort is put into the writing and production of those episodes, the possibility that Joss himself usually has more of a role in writing and directing a lot of the arc episodes and he knows better than anyone what makes the characters tick, the possibility that Joss and the writing team just have a better feel for those heavy episodes, I don't know. Another possibility is that we're just witnessing the same phenomenon that generally prevents light-hearted fare such as comedies from winning Best Picture Oscars. For whatever reason, people tend to equate high quality with heavy, emotional drama and so feel more entertained after an emotionally draining episode. Many ways she can return. 1) She just returns on her own for whatever reason, even if shes exspelled from school; she wasn't banned from the city. 2) Comes back to face Charges against her stemming from the events in Becoming pt2. 3) Joyce, Giles, Xander, Willow, and Cordelia or any combination of them track her down and convince her to return to Sunnydale. 4) Favorite is the the one that was put forth on the list, that Sunnydale goes to hell without her, and Snyder must find her and beg her to return.
