Please. I can't feel too bad for them. Good = money, >lots of time off, gorgeous men, and fame. Doesn't sound too bad to me. I had the opportunity to be an extra a couple of times for a movie being made where I live a few years ago. Fortunately I'm a book addict and take a book wherever I go, because aside from the few moments when cameras roll, that may be the most bored I've ever been! To me, it's no wonder all the soap opera stars have other businesses on the side -- they have most of all day to attend to them! The amount of time that seemed wasted to me while they moved cameras, moved lights, etc., was amazing. After that experience I am sometimes surprised movies especially *ever* get made! Anyway, the point is that the actors tend to have to sit around on their rear ends and wait for 30 minutes to an hour while lights and cameras are moved, then redo the scene *again*, exactly like the 3 times before and the 4 times yet to come. While I agree that many of them are paid too much, I suspect if you charged by boredom the salaries would be higher. And, having survived a non-speaking role in an agency-produced video where I used to work, the ability to do exactly the same thing every time the cameras roll is something I've come to admire. Those things *plus* the ability actually *act* when the cameras are actually rolling, and I become less astonished at the high prices paid many performers. However, professional athletes are *clearly* paid too much! - --=20 Diane Schultz dianes@texas.net owned by Wilma and Angel Buffy: =93The next impulsive decision I make will be my choice of dentures.=94 - - ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Jun 1998 22:36:39 EDT From: Subject: BUFFY: I Robot...You Jane I have a technical question about an episode in Season One. It was a well written critique of the show, and was very positive. Here is the start of the article, if you want to see if you would like to read the whole thing. - ---------- The "Seinfeld" gang got thrown in jail. Pembleton quit the homicide squad. Hank Hill was trapped in an exploding Mega Lo Mart. Small stuff, all of it, compared to the season-ending travails of Buffy Summers, the 17-year-old heroine of WB's sharp, shiny semi-hit, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." In the last episode of the season, Buffy was framed for murder, got kicked out of school, had a mega-fight with Mom, rescued her mentor, Giles, from a vampire torture chamber and saved the world from getting sucked into the mouth of hell by running a ritual sword through her relapsed bloodsucker ex-boyfriend Angel. Angel had been treating her like dirt ever since they slept together (ancient gypsy curse, long story), but wouldn't you know it? Right at the moment when Buffy was getting ready to spear his internal organs, the curse was lifted and Angel was back to his old self again and he got all weepy and told her he loved her, but she had to skewer him anyway to finish the world-saving ritual. Instead of the whole world getting sucked into hell, only he did, and his newly restored soul is presumably undergoing a hundred million torments, while Buffy -- now a teenage runaway -- rides a Greyhound bus to some scuzzy Nowhere and broods over all the many ways that life sucks. "Buffy" is the best. - ---------- David Simpson mailto:simpsond@utah-inter.net Giles: Better safe than sorry.
