You told me not to drink, Mom, so I drank soda instead I really felt proud inside, Mom, the way you said I would. I didn't drink and drive, Mom, even though the others said I should. I know I did the right thing, Mom, I know you are always right. Now the party is finally ending, Mom, as everyone is driving out of sight. As I got into my car, Mom, I knew I'd get home in one piece. Because of the way you raised me, so responsible and sweet. I started to drive away, Mom, but as I pulled out into the road, the other car didn't see me, Mom, and hit me like a load. As I lay there on the pavement, Mom, I hear the policeman say, the other guy is drunk, Mom, and now I'm the one who will pay. I'm lying here dying, Mom.. I wish you'd get here soon. How could this happen to me, Mom? My life just burst like a balloon. There is blood all around me, Mom, and most of it is mine. I hear the medic say, Mom, I'll die in a short time. I just wanted to tell you, Mom, I swear I didn't drink. It was the others, Mom. The others didn't think. He was probably at the same party as I. The only difference is, he drank and I will die. Why do people drink, Mom? It can ruin your whole life. I'm feeling sharp pains now. Pains just like a knife. The guy who hit me is walking, Mom, and I don't think it's fair. I'm lying here dying and all he can do is stare. Tell my brother not to cry, Mom. Tell Daddy to be brave. And when I go to heaven, Mom, put "Daddy's Girl" on my grave Someone should have told him, Mom, not to drink and drive. If only they had told him, Mom, I would still be alive. My breath is getting shorter, Mom. I'm becoming very scared. Please don't cry for me, Mom. When I needed you, you were always there. I have one last question, Mom, before I say good bye. I didn't drink and drive, so why am I the one to die? ************************ Someone took the effort to write this poem. Please, forward this to as many people as you can. But if you notice in SH, he was there when Giles called Buffy a Slayer (remember that lame cover up?). Now, if he knows about vampires, which is evident at the end of the episode, he would know about the Slayer, so even with the cover up ("you're all slaves to the television. I finally get my chance. I think that Buffy and Xander should not get together at this time because they are too young. Yes, they have an extreme responsiblity as vampire slayer and assistent, but they are still high school students. As a teacher, I see students becoming too seriously involved in personal & sexual relationships too early. Therefore, I am not in any hurry for ANY of the BtVS characters to have a partner. I do see a deep commitment for Buffy and Xander at this time. With the opportunity for growth as friends, this precludes any future romantic relationship. I would like to believe that someday, Buffy will see Xander in a more romantic light & Xander will more adult, but they are still "kids." Their mission expects them to be too adult, why must they be so adult in every part of their lives. I LIKE that Xander asks like a goof, that's his release from his other pressures. Buffy isn't ready to start a new relationship yet. And I'm not in a hurry to see it. Sorry I rambled, thanks's for letting me spout. To begin with, the mayor and the INVISIBLE PEOPLE WHO REALLY CALL THE SHOTS in Sunnydale, like those people anywhere in the real California, are worried about "property values" and very little else besides. A movie which really exposed that was "Jaws". The mayor of "Amity" was interested in the effect that a "rumor" of shark attacks would have on the tourist season revenues and property values. And if that interest pushed the mayor into "playing fast and loose" with human lives, he didn't have a problem with that. If, at any time since grade school, he had ever shown any sign of "having a problem" with "things like that", then he would never have had the chance to become mayor in the first place. I was briefly involved with municipal politics in a seaside town in California from 1972 to 1974 and, again, from 1982 to 1985. Some of the crypto-fascism, the "big money deals" and "behind closed doors" politics which I saw would have made "Boss" Tweed blush. And, truth be known, I had probably just "skimmed the surface" on this subject. Principal Snyder isn't a vampire and neither is the mayor. Principal Snyder is, however, an uncritical recipient of orders, he never tells "his betters" "things that they don't want to hear", he fawns on "his betters" and he is threatening towards "his inferiors"("Never mind her, she's just a 'stu'."). These imperatives are so deeply engrained in him that he can watch people die around him and he still will not question them. For his part, the mayor isn't in charge either, he is another uncritical recipient of orders. In contrast to Snyder, however, he probably does know just who is at the top of the pyramid in Sunnydale and he may well take his own orders from her, him or them. For the mayor, though, there could also be quite a big financial component. He might have bought a 57-acre farm near town twenty years ago. If "the lid" can be kept on this "Hellmouth" difficulty, he can sell the farm land for a fortune and become "financially independent". Then he can head for Majorca or some other truly beautiful place and have done with this California-shit. Unlike the Mayor, Principal Snyder isn't in this for genuine bucks, he's in it for "chump change" and vengeance, vengeance for the lousy life he's had up to now. And, should the situation no longer remain "deniable", he stands an excellent chance of ending up a "sacrificial lamb". Being the type of people that they are, Snyder and the mayor of Sunnydale just can't see that people are dying here and that just "keeping the lid on"--without solving the underlying problem--is a formula for catastrophe. Do I believe in vampires and demons? Well, no--no more than I believe in the "tooth fairy". But I do believe that, at times, people like the mayor and Snyder behave with shocking stupidity, because they have "agendas" which do not serve the people whom they have sworn to serve. If "the INVISIBLE PEOPLE WHO REALLY CALL THE SHOTS in Sunnydale" want Buffy back, they will make it happen. As always, Snyder will do just what he is told or he'll be replaced by someone who will. - - ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Jul 1998 16:49:16 -0400 From: "kim simington" Subject: BUFFY: RE:Shane McDermott Don't Forget he was also on Swan's Crossing w/SMG Kim - - ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Jul 98 17:04:29 EDT From: (Charles Summers) Subject: BUFFY: buffy's un-expulsion I haven't had a great track record with these predictions, but what if Joyce goes to the school board and/or the mayor and threatens to tell the newspapers all she knows about her daughter's destiny (perhaps backed by evidence from Giles) unless the school readmits Buffy? We all know that Oz was a year older than the rest of them and that Oz (Seth Green) will be a regular on the cast this coming season. If they have Oz still in school, that means that he either didn't go to college and now stays at home or he's a senior again which has to make everyone else a junior so they can keep up the "Willow's going out with a senior" thing. Possible (very minor) spoiler, for those who haven't seen all the Season 2 episodes... . . . . . IIRC, in one of the last episodes of Season 2 (don't recall which episode, precisely, but maybe someone else will) when Snyder is talking to the police chief he actually _says_ "After all, we're on the Hellmouth here," or something to that effect. Snyder quite definitely knows about the Hellmouth. ----- Jeffrey Scott Nuttall smeazel@sozo.com http://www.sozo.com/sozo/people/JSN/index.html - - ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Jul 1998 13:27:32 -0400 From: "Crystie" Subject: BUFFY: Re: Buffy: Snyder Why don't they just kill Snyder? The mayor finds out that Buffy was the slayer, gets mad at snyder for screwing up, and has him eliminated. Ok, killing is a lil far off, but we can hope can't we? At least get rid of the snot.
