Now if the article writer really followed the series (as so few seem to), he would understand that Buffy sent Angel to Hell to save the world from being sucked in there, not out of vengeance or heartbreak. At least that was *my* take on it. And I loved this quote: "[Whedon] adds that he pitched the series concept to the network because he realized there was so much more to explore with the character." So much more to explore? Like how to better cater to the legions of screaming pubescent girlfans who've made David the #1 item at most BtVS publicity events? ;-> One concern I have about the Angel series is the same concern I had about the Highlander series. How long can it go on before the mortal David Boreanaz begins to show signs of aging, something the immortal Angel would not do? Lots of the expressions and references to things like the Captain and Tenille reveal once young writers who wasted their time in front of the 'boob tube' watching mindless crap...aahhahahahaahah! Just as people today might use the word 'kewl' to describe something, back in the 50's or 60's (you can see examples of this on cable reruns of Leave it to Beaver), people said 'Peachy' to acknowledge something was good or ok. >replied ,"Just peachy..." or something to that extent. and then in "Anne", >the first episode of the third season, some lecherous customer at the diner >calls her "Peaches!" At 10/10/98 05:38 PM , Voleuse wrote (on planetx): >I'm shocked that no one's mentioned that the smoking guy was the >first zombie-related fatality. Ahhh, I missed that one. But after the last two ep's, I think we need to add another prosocial message to the BtVS propaganda list which currently includes "Smoking is hazardous to your health" and "Attempted sex will reveal your partner to be a monster." The new entry would be: "Dropping out of school will lead to a job from Hell" This message has been brewing for awhile. Recall Willow's admonition to Xander that he not end up like the guy who swept the pizza parlor and asked the kids where all the cool parties were. Or Cordy's snipe that Xander's career as a pizza boy would take him places (what's up with that pizza worker theme anyway?). Or Snyder's jab to Buffy in DMP that "Hotdog on a Stick" was hiring high-school washouts such as herself. But "Anne" really brought it home. Right off the bat we see Buffy's miserable job as a waitress with truckers pinching her ass, and her having to put up with it (presumably lest she be fired; though I wish we could have met "Helen"). And the coup de grace of course was Ken's underground sweatshop for teen runaways where the expression "A job from Hell" became a literal metaphor every bit as graphic as "School is Hell" from season one. (OTOH, being a high school *and college* graduate in the form of a faculty member at Sunnydale High doesn't seem so hot either). >Angel: "I'm not the one to ask." What's up with that? Is he like, >doomed to live in Buffy's dreams forever? Yeah, his "soul" either speaks to her in her dreams, or her own unconscious problem-solving processes take on his face (when "Angel" flagged Jenny as a double-agent in Buffy's dream last season, I wasn't sure which way it was supposed to be interpreted). For "The Pack", they say that Eion Bailey plays "Rhonda" and that Michael McRaine plays "Kyle", when in fact it's the other way around. And in "What's My Line, Part 2" they assert that Buffy's stunt double, Sophia Crawford, "used to play the Pink Ranger on Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers," when in fact Crawford was just the stunt double for Amy Jo Johnson, who *did* play the Pink Ranger. Now, I haven't yet read the whole book in depth, and the behind-the-scenes interviews with the cast and crew and the many photos do indeed make this book worth the cover price. Don't get me wrong. It's just that, considering the research-skimping that must have led to those two mistakes, I'm forced to wonder where else in this book we're getting shoddy conclusions and poorly-researched and/or inaccurate facts?
