Out of the 15 shows on The WB network last week, Buffy was 4th. The top-rated WB program of the week was 7th Heaven. It received a 6.0 rating -- the highest in the history of The WB network -- landing it in 86th place overall. That 4.1 rating is the second lowest for a first-run Buffy this season. But it's up 11% from the 3.7 that The Dark Age earned one year ago last week, on November 10, 1997 (a Monday). Overall, the first six new episodes of this season have averaged a 4.3 rating in the nationals. That's up about 30% from the first six new episodes of last season; they averaged a 3.3 national rating. It's also up 10% from the last six new episodes of the second season; they averaged a 3.9 national rating. Here are the national household ratings for the last several episodes: November 3, Homecoming: 4.3 October 27, Halloween (2nd repeat): 3.4 October 20, Beauty and the Beasts: 4.3 Jeff Rohaly rohaly@iaw.com http://www.iaw.on.ca/~rohaly/tvschedule/buffy.html (archive of Buffy's Nielsen ratings) - - ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Nov 1998 18:04:47 -0500 From: jim Subject: BUFFY: DB and Apartment Complex Hey everyone, DB was featured in the newspaper here in Philadelphia this week because the first apartment complex he lived in, he and his roomate trashed the place and he's being sued. Which worked, but not quite how they wanted it to....we all know the story. Now, supposedly, the Scooby Gang wants to kill Angel. Even though he is good. Even though before they wanted him good so he wouldn't *have* to die. Raise hand if confused. *raises hand* Can anyone say...conflict for the sake of conflict? In the past they have quoted liberally from opera and concert works. This week's score was very much like one by the acknowleged King of American Film Sores and by that I do NOT mean John Williams. I do mean Bernard Herrmann. It's kind of hard to pin down a specific score but it did sort of remind me of Herrmann's "Ghost and Mrs. Muir" - -- It isn't easy having fun ... ... What was the point of this guy? They could have done the whole show without him ever showing up. His presence never had any direct bearing on the story line. The part where Buffy fought him could have easily been sidestepped. Her discussion with Willow still could have taken place and interrupted by something else and they could have come up with another reason to go see Giles. Faith's fight with him could also have been taken out. I really enjoyed the fight scenes at the end. I'm not sure who would have won, Buffy or Faith. They are both very impulsive and resourceful. LONG First off, I hope this episode Xander redeems himself in some of your eyes (some of you at least). Image if you will, here is a guy who's first crush is a little blind to her first love. Hormones, puberty, jealousy. Typical teenage behavior, it not something that you'd hate someone for, is it? Let's break it down: Xander is this hottie for the first time, he runs into a stair-well bar, come now, quickly becomes her friend, awkward kid trying to express his feelings, when he finally gets the courage to do so, full stop. Hello, here come this tall, dark, mysterious guy whose moving in on the girl he likes, that's bad, he gets jealous. To top it off, he finds out that the mysterious guy is one of the baddies that he's supposed to help Buffy kill. But know he's got this curse thing going on that makes him good, yeah right. They come to a mutual understanding of grudging respect and slight/not so slight jealously on both sides. Just when you start to truly trust the guy, he goes and become truly a bad guy, I knew I shouldn't have trusted him. Then the baddie goes and kills a teacher and someone you like and respect and happens to be Giles' g-friend. Then he watches the girl that he had his first crush on, do a melt down, this is not good for a guy, who believe he's Buffy's champion and proctor, which he kind of became. Then stop the press, we're going make him good again, STOP!! remember what he did? Xander can't forgive Angel for being the guy that Buffy fell for (which yes he should get over, he's got Cordy now, which will fall apart very soon), he can't forgive what happened to Jenny (which he should not), and he definitely can't forgive the meltdown that Buffy had over Angel (let's face it, Xander has major issues and he should talk to someone about his displaced anger. Flash forward to present day, Xander still has issues over Buffy leaving (like the rest of the Scooby gang that hasn't come out yet, I can't wait until it does), then she keep important information from them and can't help but not believe Buffy fully. Here come Faith, someone to share he feeling with, he wants to do a little but kicking to get his frustrations out and probably get killed because. Thank got they went to the Library and XANDER was the voice of reason wanting to stay with Giles and not go off half-cocked again like he did at the Bronze. He came totally clean with Buffy and fully expect the anger that he got and took it well. At the end of the episode it looks like that chapter has closed, he finally realizes that Buffy has to lead her own life and make her own mistakes even if it put everyone she knows and loves in jeopardy. I hope that satisfies and those Xander Bashers. Now for the rest of the episode: I like it a lot. In the Library, I got the wiggans, shadows of Innocence, I was so waiting for Cordy to walk in on them. In the Library, right before Giles got his head bashed, I thought the English chick was Lagos. Speaking of Lagos, didn't he get killed a little to easily? Well for me he did, it does show that Buffy is stronger and more resourceful than Faith. The fight between Faith and Buffy kicked. Lover's walk Preview: I Love Spike, I was cracking up over Spike crying on Willow's shoulder. Do you think in the beginning of the episode they'll show Spike driving over the Sunnydale sign like they did in School Hard? I know he'll do it, but where? Some speculation about Lover's walk below. Spoiler Space, just in case: With a title like "Lover's Walk" and virtually everyone's relationship in turmoil, I think this is the big one. Big chances are gonna happen to any or all of our favorite couples. Xander & Cordy (I'm still fully on the band wagon) Willow & Oz (Their just pure sugar) Buffy & Angel (They have major issues to work out) Giles & Joyce (What if she is pregnant, will this be the episode that this will be revealed?) And the turmoil over the Spike and Dru break-up, to bad there won't be flashbacks of the gruesome scene since Juliet was not available, but when she does come back, hopefully they'll show it. Somebody it seems is going to get their walking papers. And I hate to think who's going to be giving/getting them? Well that's it for me, I'm out, Ciao Ms. Gwyn ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - - ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Nov 1998 22:21:42 -0500 From: "Ryan Harrington" Subject: BUFFY: Serena Scott Thomas AKA Gwen Post Is this Serena Scott Thomas the sister of Kristen Scott Thomas? ~Ryan - - ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Nov 1998 22:23:13 -0500 From: "Ryan Harrington" Subject: BUFFY: The Council Ooh so there's a council? And then they fight and though I believe Buffy would have kicked her butt in the end, it was a pretty close call. And why did Faith throw Xander? I mean I was all for it at that point but why? As for Xander-- I haven't been a fan of his for a long while and I thought tonight was going to be much the same--but I was surprised. True, she's not displaying bare leg or cleavage, but she seems to be wearing more clothes that actually *fit.* Most of her old blouses were these striped or wildly patterned, muu muu-like monstrosities. Now her pants and blouses fit actually display her figure. One of her blouses was kind of transparent and you could see the spaghetti-strapped tank top beneath. It was very flattering to her. Yeah, I got the same impression. I'm not sure that Oz actually senses anything, but he is a very perceptive character and it wouldn't suprise me if he did. He's still gonna be hurt though. Poor Cordy, she really thinks that Xander has transferred his feelings for Buffy to her. Well at least this'll give Charisma a chance to do some dramatic scenes. Cydney - - ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Nov 1998 23:51:44 CST From: "Cydney, " Subject: BUFFY: Xander and Willow's relationship This is a message from a former anti-Willow/Xander shipper: Xander and Willow should be together. Here's the reason: As much as Willow cares about Oz, she does not love him, and as a couple they lack passion. On the other hand, when Xander kissed Willow in "Homecoming," and in "Revelations" it was completely natural and passionate. In the past, Xander had been unable to love Willow romantically, because in his eyes she was an eternal child, the little girl in pigtails and footy pajamas that grew to be a gawky girl that helped him with his homework and loved him. When he saw her in that dress he realized that she was a desirable woman for the first time. Willow became the fantasy beloved-- beautiful, smart and loving. She knows everything about him and loves every part of him, good and bad. I must emphasize that the friendly love that Xander had felt for her in the past DID NOT suddenly turn into romantic love. Xander has *re-fallen* in love with the *woman* that Willow has become and has left the childhood love behind forever. A similar thing happened to Willow. I think that between seasons two and three she honestly fell *out* of love with Xander. She did her best to attach those feelings to Oz, but to no avail. In the dressing scene from "Homecoming" she asks, "Since when were you a gentleman?" Then she sees him in his tux. She wasn't just seeing a good looking guy in a tux; she was *re-seeing* Xander. She had fallen out of love with her childhood crush, now she was confronted with the man of her dreams. In that moment she saw Xander as a man and fell in love with that man. As much as I love Oz (and I do love that guy-- he is such a sweetie) and have come to like Cordy, they deserve better than to have lovers that don't love them completely.
