Sali Wynants (salii@bestweb.net) Xander was getting tired. The women had been chasing him for what seemed like hours and he hadn't had a rest. He spotted the guys locker room and hoped there wouldn't be any girls there. Dashing inside, he quickly barricaded the door. Sitting on a bench, Xander took a deep breath. "Note to self: Never mess with magic..Or women." Suddenly he heard a sound near the back of the locker room. ~I hope Oz's reaction was just an isolated incedent~ "Hello? Who's there?" "Xander, is that you?" A familiar young voice replied. "Uh...yeah, i'm just..uh.." "Hiding...from the women, i know." The speaker, Larry, rounded the corner. "Uh..yeah." "I know it's hard..being so..put off by the attention, but having to act like you love it, or everyone will know." He was looking Xander over slowly. "Uhm...yeah...i guess..." He wasn't sure he liked the way the big football player was looking at him. "You know Xander, you don't have to pretend around me" Larry put a hand on Xander's shoulder. "I know how it feels, always hiding" He moved his hand a little closer to Xander's neck and began to massage lightly. Xander stood silently, trying to gather his thoughts. "Uhm...Lar, look...ah..." He took a step back, only to have Larry take a step forward. "You know Xander, i can see why all the women are after you..I just never noticed before..." he moved a little closer. "Your physique alone is enough to-" "Hold it!" Xander took a step back, running into the wall "Look, uh...Larry, i don't know how yo say this but-" "Then don't say anything." Placing a hand on Xander's cheek Larry leaned forward. Just then the door burst open and girls poured into the room. "Found you!" cried one of them, running over to the men. "He's mine!" Cried another, jumping on Larry's back. Xander took advantage of Larry's predicament and made a run for it. He ran to the showers, then climbed out a windows. He picked him self and began running again.... - -- "A moment of joy, in a life ||"You are *so* weird!" time of sorrow. "It's alright," he said quietly. "I ate early tonight." "Jäzen, right?" Buffy asked, cautiously. "At your survice," he said with a slight bow. "I see you have read up on me. I am honored." He eyed her. "I have not seen a slayer in 125 years." "How did you...?" "You think every girl your age goes around slaying vampires rather than hanging out with her friends?" he asked. "Your strength alone tells me you are the chosen one... Or, should I say, on of the chosen two?" "Excuse me?" Buffy asked suspiciously. "I've been reading up on you too," Jäzen confessed. "What do you want," Buffy finally asked, growing impatiant with her companion's attitude. "Just to talk," Jäzen answered. "But first, we must go where we will not be heard by unwanted third parties." As he finished, he brought his hand to his chest and pointed over his shoulder. Buffy quickly followed his eyes to where a figure stood watching them. I was going to save this for another day or two, but I just typing this part and I'm a little impatient. Buffy has found out about her new mystery man. (Jäzen) She has met up with him. He wants to talk. Angelus over heard part of their conversation and is going to go have dinner. INNER DEMONS Part 5 "I feel I should explain myself to you," Jäzen said once he was sure no one was following them. "Why me?" Buffy asked. "Because I can trust a slayer," he responded. "I know it sounds strange. After all, we're supposed to be killing each other. But, believe it or not, there is a certain trust between vampires and slayers. I don't know why. Maybe it's because we'll trust you to always hunt us and you'll trust us to always hunt you. There is a sort of co-dependence there." "Do you really believe that?" she asked "Not for a moment," he chuckled. "Then why?" "I think it's because, being a slayer, you are more inclined than most to believe the in the bizarre," Jäzen finally said. "And, believe me, what I'm going to tell you is a bit bizarre." "Okay," Buffy said, "start talking." * * * * * JÄZEN'S STORY I had a sister, Verena. We were very close. She had the gift of prophecy: she could see into the future. Not very well, but she would get images, messages, fragments of what was to come. And they were usually very cryptic. Verena would always share her visions with me... especially when they frightened her. We decided early on that we would keep what she saw between us. Our little town already thought strange enough as it was and, being the times we lived in, she knew not to call too much attention to herself. We had already of too many witch trials in our area and it wouldn't have mattered if she was the daughter of a squire or not. Well, was going along fine until my father arranged for her to marry a baron from Köln. I don't know whether it was a fear of leaving home or marrying a strange man, but she became a nervous wreck. Worse, Verena wouldn't even talk to me about what was troubling her. She just clammed up. Up to the day we left for Köln, she did nothing but wander around the house or stare out the windows into town. And the terror in her eyes! When she did go out, she'd shy away from people or she'd freeze in fear, as if watching something terrible happening. Well, of course, people started whispering that she had been touched by the devil. The day we were to leave for Köln and the wedding, everything came tumbling down on us. We were about to leave when the towns people came to confront us. They demanded that my sister be handed over for trial. My father refused, saying that they would never put his daughter on trial while he lived. That is when Verena stepped out of the carriage. In front of all the town's people, she spoke of what she had seen. "I see this town consumed by flames," she said calmly. "I see you all burning, drowning in the blood that will flow through the streets. Something will come to destroy you all, something that your own fears will unleash." The towns people just stood there frozen. But I didn't wait for their reaction, I packed my sister and father in the carriage and took off for Köln. I drove so fast, we got there in three days instead of four. She was fine after that. But the damage had been done. By the time my father and I got back, the town counsel had tried, convicted and banished Verena as a witch. My father could do nothing about it by that time and it broke his heart that she would never be able to come home again. Father died ten years later, and despite her sentence, Verena came home for the funeral. The towns people, unfortunately, hadn't forgotten about her sentence. Out of "respect for the dead," they waited until the day after the funeral to come after her. She tried to sneak away in the night but the mob caught her and beat her for showing her face in the town she had condemned. They didn't burn her though. She was just thrown on my doorstep and left to die. That was where I found her an hour later when I came home. I got her in the house and tried to treat her wounds but it was no use. She was too badly beaten. When I asked her who had beaten her, she started to name her attackers then stopped. She just stared up at me. When I asked her to go on, she only continued to stare at me. "You must...listen...to me...now," she finally said. "You... will be... set upon by... a great darkness." "What are you saying?" I asked. "Nevermind that, who else attacked you?" "Listen!" she demanded. "You must... fight... this darkness. If... you... do not,... you will be... doomed for... eternity... and beyond... and I... will never... see you... again." "No!" I begged her. "Don't you leave me, Verena. You can't die. You have a husband and a family who need you." "It... was my time..." she said weakly. "I knew... what would happen... if I... came back here... I wanted... my last... moment on this earth... to be with... my brother... who I love." "No." "It's... alright," she told me. "I... will always... be with you." She stiffened as death came to claim her, but her eyes remained locked on mine. "Remember... you must...fight! Please... you... must... fight..." * * * * * The Black Fire Blackfire42@hotmail.com ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - - ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Feb 1998 22:41:52 -0500 (EST) From: Robert Rhoades Subject: BUFFYFIC: Sins of the Mother (6/9) PG-13 by Vapthorne Title: Sins of the Mother (6/9) Author: Robbie Rhoades (aka Vapthorne) E-mail: rrhoades@astro.ocis.temple.edu Spoilers: None Disclaimer: Joyce Summers is not my character, technically Joy Matthews isn't mine either (since she is Joyce years ago), she along with Buffy and the gang belong to Joss, Mutant Enemy, and the WB network. I have not made one dime on this story. In fact with the electricity I use to power the computer, and the paper I use to print some copies, you could say I'm spending money on this work. However, I did come up with the idea for Joy and the other characters in this story are mine, so please ask if you want to use them. Summary: Isn't it ironic how a daughter is doomed to life their mother's lives. Buffy is no exception, because when Joyce was a young teenager she had problems dealing with vampires and demons. Sins of the Mother: Chapter Six ****** Joy felt true unease as she was lying down on a large leather sofa. It had been a couple days since the last vampire attack, and after her parents had learned about what happened in school, they decided to take Joy to see a psychologist. "Tell me, Joyce, when did this all happen?" The doctor sat at his chair with a pen and pad, taking notes. "It all started a few days ago. My friends and I were at the Aphrodite, just hanging out and talking." Joy explaining her story. "What were you talking about?" "We were talking about the brutal murders that occurred over the past several days, then the conversation shifted to vampires and other myths." "I see..." "Then when I was walking home, I was attacked." "And your attacker was a... vampire?" "Yes, fangs and everything. I told my friend, Rebecca Casey, about it and she just made fun of me." "Kids can be cruel." The doctor commented. "I'm a kid, that doesn't make me cruel." Joy sarcastically retorted, "Anyway, I've decided to read up on vampires. Later that night I decided to visit Pauline Einstein's grave." "And who is Pauline?" "She was one of the murder victims that got bitten on the neck. I've heard that vampires can make other vampires when they exchange their blood. My theory proved correct when she popped out of her grave. After I killed her, I met the Necromancer." "Describe this Necromancer, will you please." "He's tall and haggard. I couldn't see his face with that dark green cloak he wore. He spoke with this accent. Ever since I met him that's when I've been losing it. No matter what I did I couldn't forget about him." "How does he make you feel?" "Scared, frightened, paranoid.." Joy listed her feelings "Okay, let's move on, shall we? Tell me about your parents." "What do you want to know?" "How do they make you feel?" "Ever since they stopped loving each other I sometimes feel alienated. Like it's my fault. They're also so hard on me, and they treat me like an immature girl." "Tell me, how's school?" "School's all right. I'm not exactly an A student, but I pass my classes." "Really? Now tell me this, do you like horror movies?" "Yeah, who doesn't." "You said earlier that you read up on vampires, explain what you mean by to read up on them." "I read books on them, books that tell stories and legends on vampires." "I see..." the doctor smirked with confidence. "Wait a minute..." Joy sat up from the sofa, "You think I'm crazy." "I don't think like to use the word 'crazy'. However I do think that your mom and dad has caused you to escape reality with these stories about this Necromancer and the vampires." "Look, I know the difference between fantasy and reality." "I find it hard to believe that vampires can be real, without proof." "Proof!" Joy bolted up with anger and frustration. "Dig up Pauline's grave, and find that there is a corpse missing. There is more to the world than just what we see. Vampires, demons, monsters, they all exist, plotting to doom our civilization. The fact that there is no one willing to acknowledge is why things like those brutal murders happen." It became obvious to Joy that the shrink would not believe her. No one would. She couldn't help but think that this was all a losing cause. If she continued having these encounters with the vampires and tried to warn people, everyone will think she is crazy. If she ignored what was going on, things won't change. From her past encounters and what Cecil and Jana told her, she knew that the Necromancer and the other vampires will just continue to spread their evil. She was in the middle of a dire crisis and no one can help her. ***** Later that day, Joy returned to school and busy working on the punishment that the principal gave her. Tonight was the ceremony for the National Honor Society, and Mr. Rayer figured that Joy will work out her penalty. As she stood on a chair, hanging a big banner to go in front of the lobby, Rebecca and Dalton approached her from behind. Joy's two friends were both dressed formally for the occasion. "Yikes." Joy turned around surprised, almost falling off the chair. "Don't do that." "Do what?" Rebecca said. "Scare me. I could of fall off." Joy finished with the banner and stepped down. "So, what's up?" "We're getting for the ceremony. How is Rayer's slave duty holding out?" Rebecca said. "Fine, I guess. He made me hang up these banners, hand out the programs, and prepare refreshments... oh, you wanna try some?" Joy gleefully asked, and walked them over to the refreshment table. "Sure what did you make?" Dalton hungrily questioned. "I've brought some cookies from the cafeteria, and I made some lemonade." Joy poured a glass and gave it to Dalton. "How much sugar did you use?" Rebecca asked. "Sugar?" Dalton sipped the drink and he reacted strangely to the taste. "Way too much. No offense Joy, but I know some plantations in Hawaii that don't have as much sugar in them." "I've never made lemonade before." She defended. "Don't worry. People could use the sugar rush when Rayer's up there giving his speech." Rebecca comforted, "Anyway, how are you doing?" "Not good. My parents made me see a shrink." Joy explained. "Listen, sorry I yelled at you a few days ago." Joy's friend apologized. "We know you've been going through a lot lately. Whether you're crazy or not, we're still you're friends." "Thank you." Joy hugged her two friends as a sign that she had forgiven them. "What are you doing!" Rayer approached, "Miss Casey, Mister Plague, you've got a ceremony to attend. And, you Miss Matthews, have work to do! I just got off the phone with your parents so they know you're fulfilling your sacred punishment." The principal then walked away towards the gym where the ceremony was taking place. "We have people like Rayer in our lives, and you need to dream up vampires." Dalton jested to Joy. "Well, we better get going." Rebecca said. "Good luck." Joy wished. "You too." ***** "Ladies... Gentlemen... Parents... And students." Rayer greeted, "Allow me the pleasure to introduce tob you Silver Heights finest and brightest students..." Rayer continued his monologue speech, and the ceremony proceeded throughout the night. The students lit the candles and gave their speeches, and Joy watched the doors to make sure people could come in without disrupting the ceremony. Rayer had intentions of punishing Joy with all this work, but she actually felt at peace. She didn't worry about the Necromancer, vampires, or other demons. Joy felt normal for a change, and she hoped it would always stay like this. A few hours later, the ceremony was finished and most of the parents, students, and staff left for home. Joy had to stay behind to clean up. "Hey congratulations on the ceremony." Joy ecstatically said to Rebecca and Dalton. "You're now one of S.H.'s finest." "Thank you. So, are you going home yet?" Dalton asked. "I have to finish things here first." She explained. "Oh, my god!" Claudia came charging into the main lobby where everyone left was gathered. "Someone killed the janitor." "Are you sure?" Rayer asked. "I'll show you." Claudia walked the others over to another hallway, towards the dead body. "Look! Some wild animal attacked him. Look at the bite marks." Joy examined the bite marks and knew that no animal had done it. It was a vampire, one of them, possibly more, were inside the school. "Quick, everyone lock yourselves in a room!" "What are you talking about, Miss Matthews." Rayer demanded. "Trust me, damn it." She cried, "This isn't the work any animal, we need to..." Growling sounds coming from the end of the hall interrupted Joy. Suddenly, everyone's attention was shifted towards that end and they saw three vampires, lead by Flower. "Their faces, what are they?" A teacher asked. "It's drugs, I'm telling you." Rayer answered. "My lord, are they vampires, Joy?" Rebecca whispered. "I'm afraid so." Joy confirmed. "They're so funky real." Claudia noted. "Funky real?" Dalton puzzled. "Will you knock it off." Rebecca griped, "We're going to die you know." "Not if I can handle it." Joy said with determination. She wasn't about to let innocent people be added to the senseless slaughter. The three vampires advanced their way forward and everyone froze with fear. None of them knew that they were vampires, but from looking into their eyes, everyone knew that they were psychopathic. Joy took action, and she grabbed the fire extinguisher. She aimed the extinguisher and sprayed the gas at the vampires. "Everyone run!" Joy ordered. "What about you?" Dalton concernedly asked. "Don't worry about me." She insured, "I've done this before." No one bothered to question Joy's reason at this. What became clear to everyone was to flee. Everyone almost made it to the front door, until the glass doors cracked, and more vampires blocked their exit. The people were forced to separate and lock themselves in a room. Half of the people locked themselves in the library, the other half in a classroom, while Rebecca, Dalton, and Claudia sought refuge in the ladies room. "Where is the girl?" The pale vampire searched. "I hear something." Another vampire referred to the fighting noises coming from the end of the other hall. At that end, Joy had been busy fending off the three vampires. Just as she slammed the extinguisher into the skull of one of the vampires, more of them emerged from the other end. Outnumbered, Joy done the next logical thing, she ran into the nearest room and locked the door. The vampires put forth their best effort to break down the door, and within a few minutes they succeeded. "Where did she go?" Flower puzzled, "I think this is the wrong room, man." "Can't be." The pale vampire said, "We all saw her go in here." "The child eluded you once more." The cloaked Necromancer walked into the room. "No, she must be in here." The pale vampire explained. "She's hiding. Everyone search the room." All the vampires demolished the room in hopes to locate Joy. Closets pulled open, desks flung around, giant trashcans were emptied, cabinets broke open, and still no sign of the girl. "Woo, she must have vanished." Flower noted. "We took a big risk coming to the school and doing this. I hate to see our efforts wasted." The Necromancer exited the classroom and said, "Search the building." The other vampires followed his order and they fanned out through the school. Flower, the last to leave the classroom, noticed that the window was left open. "No wonder there was a draft." Flower decided to close the window as she left the room. Outside, Joy found herself standing from above the window. Logic would have told her to leave the school and find help, but it wouldn't have done any good. She saw that no one else left the school, and assumed that the vampires trapped them all in a room. If she fled to find the police, everyone would certainly be dead. Now determined to stop the vampires, Joy inched towards another open window to regain entry. ***** "Are there any windows?" A teacher, forced into hiding asked. "Not in this room." "Then we're stuck." Suddenly, massive banging emanated from the door, "Quick, barricade the door!" ***** "They cut off the phone lines." Rayer exclaimed as he tried to call the police. "And, there are no windows. We're trapped." "Don't you think we should barricade the door with something?" "Agreed." "What do you think they want?" A student asked. "I don't know, but they all look crazy." Rayer said, "I don't think we're going to leave this place alive." "I hope everyone's okay." A teacher hoped. "Are we doing to die?" "Not unless we can do something about them." Rayer said. "What can we do?" "I dunno." ***** "You know this is the first time I've been in the girls room." Dalton noticed. "Dalton, this is not the time to be funny. Please be serious." Rebecca said. "I'm worried about Joy." "I think we need a priority check here." Claudia voiced, "We're trapped in a bathroom with those... things waiting to... whatever. We need to lock the door with something." "With what?" Rebecca asked, "There is nothing in this bathroom." "What about this." Dalton grabbed a mop that the janitor left in the room, and he wedged it between the door and floor. "That should hold." "Dalton, you're a genius." Rebecca kissed him on the cheek to show her admiration for his idea. Suddenly the light went out, the vampires decided to cut off the power. "Oh god! What do we do?" The window creaked open and the two girls released a small scream. Their vocals ceased when they noticed it was their friend, Joy. "Oh joy... it's Joy." Claudia normally wouldn't be so happy to see her, but given the situation she was in, she was more than happy to see Joy. "What happened to you." Dalton asked. "I had to crawl out a window to avoid them." Joy explained, "So far I counted about nine vamps." "Why didn't you go get help." Claudia said. "Everyone will be dead, by the time help arrived. Where are the others?" "Half are in a classroom, the other half in the library." Rebecca said. "You think you can handle all the vampires." Dalton asked. "If I divide and conquer." "It should be easier with four of us." Rebecca suggested. "Four?" Claudia panicked, "You mean three. I'm not getting involved." "Claudia!" "She's right. Someone has to go get help. And, Claudia kindly volunteered." Joy said, "I'll give you a boost to the window." Claudia placed her foot on Joy's hand as she lifted her up to the window. "Go get help Lassie." Dalton said. "Shut up, dorkbrain." Claudia went out the window while the other three remained. "What do we do?" Rebecca now wondered. Joy took the mop and broke the stick off, then she halved it to form two stakes and handed them to her friends. "We save the day." She proclaimed as she pulled the silver dagger and cross from her purse.
