He was reading a book that Giles had lent him on vampires, and he seemed to be enthralled. She felt a little silly agreeing to this whole thing, but it was something that she felt she had to do for Mulder. With everything they had been through, he had been right more times than not about things, despite the fact that some of these things were unexplainable. = She decided that he had earned her trust and faith in his abilities as an investigator. It was clear that these people felt that this ritual was important, and that this Angel was very dangerous. She guessed they would find out tomorrow night. Mulder looked up from the book and noticed her watching him. "If you take a picture, it lasts longer, Scully." he teased. She laughed. "I was just in deep thought, Mulder. Thinking about all of this. It just seems so far-fetched." "You should read this manuscript. Scully, it's absolutely fascinating. I know that you have your doubts, Scully, but I am glad that you're trying. I am not sure that *I* am believing this 100%, but the fact is, I saw what I saw. I saw that man explode into dust when Willow put that stake through his heart. I *saw* their faces, and their fangs, and they were not normal people. We also saw what Buffy can do. She is abnormally strong for her age, and has tremendous fighting ability. She could kick *both* our butts at the same time. And the idea of vampire hunters is not a new one. There is even a man on the internet who claims to be a vampire hunter. He even gives accounts of his encounters, and even of his killing the vampires. The idea of a slayer is not unprecedented, but the idea of a pre-destined slayer is one that = I haven't ever heard. It's interesting." "I can't explain Buffy's strength, either. She's not an especially muscular girl. Her fighting ability could be learned, but she says she never actually had formal marital arts training. But, I find the notion of pre-determined destiny a little much to swallow, Mulder. = The idea is a 'romantic' one, I will admit. A young girl pre-destined and gifted with supernatural powers to fight the forces of evil and the undead. It is something right out of a novel. I only agreed to this because I am as curious as you are to see what this entails. And I trust you. However, I am not telling you that I believe *this*. I believe in you. There is a difference." Scully explained. "I'm touched, Scully." Mulder smiled at her. "And you know that many things in novels often have a base in the truth.", he threw in with a mischievous look in his eye. "I'm serious, Mulder. I wouldn't do anything like this for anyone but you= ." Mulder looked at her very seriously. "I know that, Scully. Don't ever thi= nk that I don't know that." There was a moment of silence between them as they looked at each other. Scully felt like a thousand words were being spoken between them in the silence. The trust, the respect, that had been built over the last= five years gave them a very special relationship that other partners only thought about having. It transcended friendship and even love, she admitted. She loved Mulder in a way that was impossible to explain. It went beyond romantic love in a way, but she didn't really want to dwell = on that aspect of it, however. The mutual trust and devotion that they had shown each other over the past five years was beyond any relationship she had ever had, and she knew that was true for Mulder as well. She felt the moment turn from comfortable non-verbal communication to awkward silence during her musings. Neither of them were really ready to discuss = these thoughts of hers, if there was even anything to really discuss. The= y just *were*, and that was that. They were partners, and good ones, and = that was where it should be left. She rose to go to her own room. "Goodnight, Mulder." He looked at her, knowing that the subject going through their minds was not something she wanted to tackle, and neither did he. "Goodnight, Scully. Pleasant dreams." ______________________________________________ Buffy was standing in the cemetery, the sun shining bright on her face. The warmth gave her a feeling of peace and tranquility that she hadn't felt in a long time. She looked at her surroundings, wondering why she was there, especially during the day. She heard a noise behind her and turned to see what was there. "Hello?" She called hesitantly. She suddenly felt out of her element here in the sunlight, exposed for anyone to see. "Buffy, it's me." Buffy stared at Angel as he appeared out of nowhere. His face was illuminated by the sunlight, giving him an almost ethereal appearance. Buffy was fascinated by the way the light played on his features, emphasizing things that she had never seen before. The image was almost surreal, as were the surroundings. It was almost as if it was *too* bright. Buffy realized that she wasn't afraid of Angel as he came closer. She knew that this was *her* Angel, the one that had vanished after they had expressed their love. "Angel," Buffy spoke up, "why're we here?" "To capture me, you must use my weakness. What's my weakness, Buffy?" "I..I don't know." she stammered. "My weakness is *you* Buffy, even now. Remember that." Angel reached out and caressed her face, his hands feeling warm in addition to the warmth of the sun. The feeling was beyond her wildest dreams. She closed her eyes to savor the moment and the keep the memory in her mind. "Angel, are we doing the right thing, here? I mean, what if you die?" "If you don't do this, I won't stop until you and everyone you know are dead. If that happens, Buffy, I will *want* to die." Buffy woke up with a start, surrounded by the darkness of her bedroom. She could almost feel the lingering warmth on her face from the sunlight in her dream. She knew now what she had to do. ______________________________________ Mulder threw his jacket onto the bed, loosening his tie. Today had been a disaster. The Sunnydale Police were seriously deluding themselves. They had swept so much evidence under the rug that their carpet could be a downhill ski resort. Scully had been appalled at their = lackluster forensics. Autopsy reports were missing, and in some cases, not performed at all. The missing persons cases were handled just as badly. Scully came through the suite door. "Mulder, I really need to eat before we go performing any rituals. You wanna come?" "Yea, just a minute. Just let me get out these clothes. Today was such a phenomenal waste of time." Mulder complained. "I think that Buffy was right. These people don't want to know about the things in Sunnydale. The way they handled those cases was proof enough for me in that regard." Scully replied. "Why, Scully, are you admitting that there is *something* going on that they don't want to find the truth about?" Mulder asked with surprise. "I never doubted that, Mulder. I just didn't realize to what extent these people would go to *not* find out the truth." "Maybe they *do* know the truth. That could be the problem. At least the higher-ups could know. The people we spoke with today did not act as if anything was wrong at all. Like none of incidents weren't unusu= al or important in any way." Mulder speculated. "Willow did say that people seemed to forget the strange happenings as = soon as they happened. Maybe it's some form of mass hypnosis that is causing people to forget the incidents." Scully suggested. "That is exactly what I would expect you to say, but how do you explain the kids and the two teachers? Why aren't they affected, if that's what = it is, Scully?" Mulder challenged her. He knew what her answer would be. "Maybe because they're involved somehow, Mulder." "They are involved, but I don't believe they're at fault in any way. I = think that their involvement revolves around Buffy's abilities. It would be hard to keep secrets from your closest friends. Eventually, the truth would come out, and once that truth is known, you would become involved. I think this is what has happened here. " Mulder surmised. "From Buffy's school record, it would seem that this trouble seems to follow her around." Scully observed. "Possibly, Scully. Or maybe, just maybe, if *you* were a vampire slayer, *you* would follow the *trouble* around. Whether you wanted to or not." _____________________________________________________ Buffy stood outside the door, waiting for Angel to emerge. She didn't want to face Angelus again, but she knew that she had to. It was the only way for her to get him to come with her for the ritual. The door opened, and she sprang into action, quickly pinning the unsuspecting vampire to the wall. "Why, Buffy. What could possibly bring you here, of all places? You can't possibly think that you are going to kill me, could you?" Angelus taunted her. "No. That isn't why I'm here at all, actually." Buffy said firmly. "What makes you think that I won't kill you right now, you stupid girl." Angel looked her up and down. "Because, Angel, I know you. You aren't done with me yet, are you?" Buffy challenged him. "Unfortunately, you're right. It's a weakness of mine, liking the chase..= . Enjoying the hunt. Working my way through the weaker gazelles to get to the strongest, most tantalizing morsel of the herd." Angel's gaze made her feel almost dirty as his eyes swept over her. She could almost see = the lust in his eyes, not just for the feed itself, but for her in particular= . The cold shiver she felt run down her spine made her more determined = to accomplish what she came to do. What Angel had told her last night had= been correct. Even as Angelus, he wanted her and she intended to use it = to trap him. The look on her face changed as she stepped closer to him = to speak next. "I also enjoy the hunt, Angel. In fact, I don't see any reason why we bot= h can't enjoy *this* hunt so much more." Buffy said in a seductive tone. Angel looked at her, watched her, and Buffy could see that he was not immune to her actions. She stepped closer, reaching around his neck and = pulling his face down to hers in a searing kiss that left her breathless = despite her hatred for this demon that had taken over the man she loved. He fiercely returned the kiss, confirming what she had already known. She pulled back, and his head followed hers, reluctant to break the contact. "I think it's safe to say that you enjoyed that as much as I did." Buffy gloated. She swallowed at what she was going to say next. "Forget the love, forget feelings, I want to be with *you*. This demon you are now really turns me on, and it kind of pisses me off, which, actually turns me on even more. I say we should take advantage of that, don't you? Have a little fun before we kill each other?" The tone of her voice surprised her. She couldn't believe that she could pull of being so seductive when she didn't mean a word of it. Angelus got a look in his eye, one that made Buffy's blood run cold. "Do you mind a little pain, Buffy dear? You're right, we could have a lot of fun together." He said as he fingered a strand of her hair. "Then come to the library tonight. No one will be there, and we can play." Buffy urged him in a sultry tone. She turned and walked away, leaving him standing in the doorway. Angelus was pretty sure that this could turn out to be a trap of some sor= t, but if it was he was sure he could handle it. The bitch still wanted him, *that* she couldn't hide, and he was curious to see what she had in mind. He wanted to savor her destruction, and what better way than to savor *her* a little along the way...it would make his final kill all that much sweeter. ___________________________________________________ Seven people sat in the library of Sunnydale High School. The atmosphere was intense, and no one seemed to be in a talkative mood. They waited for Buffy and Miss Calender. The library doors opened, and Buffy entered the room. Scully noticed that she appeared to be flushed, and looked upset. "Buffy, where is Angel?" Giles asked nervously. "He'll be here in a little while." Buffy told them. "He's coming willingly??" Willow asked in disbelief. "I have my ways." Buffy said without elaborating. "You guys are going to need to hide when he comes until I have a chance to block the door so he can't leave. I will try to lure him into the cage, but I don't know if that will work." "Scully and I can stand behind the door, and take care of that," Mulder offered. "If I can get him in there, that would be the best. Those library doors = swing both ways. They will be harder to block. He's gonna be *real* ticked off, though. I made some big promises that I have no intention of keeping." Buffy replied. "Angel's coming, and we're just *sitting* here??" Cordelia spoke up. "Hel-lo! Call me outta here." Xander moved to stop her. "Buffy will take care of it. This will bring back good-but-annoying Angel and replace the much worse I-want-to-suck-your-blood-and-make-your-life-a-living-hell Angelus. I know which one I choose. Yeah, surprises me *much*." Buffy heard a noise outside, and a voice in the hallway. "Oh Buuuuffffy. Are you ready to play?" Angel's voice drifted into the library. Everyone scattered, Giles, Willow, Xander, Oz, and Cordy in the stacks, Mulder and Scully behind the library door. Angel came over to where Buffy stood, right beside the entrance to the office. Angel walked right up to her, grabbing her shoulders, and pulled her to him in a brutal kiss. Buffy gave into it, realizing that = she had the perfect opportunity to trap him while he was distracted. She knee= d him with every ounce of strength she possessed, and as he hunched over = in pain, she shoved him in the office and slammed the door, throwing the lock on it. She then pulled a small bookcase in front of the door to prov= ide more security. Angel snarled and yelled, throwing his weight against the door, but did not budge it. Buffy found a metal bar in the weapons locker to wedge across the door as well. She was taking no chances. Scully walked over to the cage, staring at Angel's face, which displayed the demon he had inside of him. She was fascinated by it. Mulder was right behind her. "So, Buffy, who do we have here? Red-heads are pretty tasty...so spicy. I'd love to drain *her* dry." Angelus leered at Scully. "Oh, I don't know about that. I'm not sure that you would find the remnants of chemotherapy in my blood so palatable" Scully told him with a blank expression, not missing a beat. "And feisty too." Angel replied as he smacked his lips at Scully. "Ooh. Hold her back, Agent Mulder. She *might* not be able to control herself there." Buffy said sarcastically. "What exactly do you plan to do with me, hmm? You plan on waiting until daylight so that you don't have to stake me, is that it? Could it = be because you don't have the guts, Buf-fy?" Angel taunted her. Buffy stood her ground. "Actually, *Angelus*, you *are* leaving, but not in such a *lovely* way. Nope, pal, we are putting the whammy on you. Say good-bye to Angelus, hello to Angel." Angelus became furious, rattling the cage door. "NOOOOOOO!!!!!! I can't be that simpering idiot again! NEVER!" "Well, never just came to Sunnydale." Buffy countered. She seemed cool on the outside, but this was getting to her. Scully couldn't believe what she was seeing and hearing. In a scientific standpoint, this was amazing. This man's face had been normal just minutes before and had turned before her very eyes. His canine teeth had literally grown as she watched. She had to admit that this was something tangible. There was an...an *evil* about him that she couldn't describe or explain. She felt Mulder by her side, and knew that he was = in his element. An X-File standing right in front of him. She turned to look= at him and could see the excitement in his face. Their eyes met for a moment in silent communication as they confirmed what they were looking at. They all turned to look when the door opened, revealing Jenny Calendar. "There are a few things that I found out about this spell, guys. Not good things, either." ___________________________________________ Everyone turned to look at Scully, including Mulder. She just looked back at them all, then looked at Mulder. "Well, Scully, *do* you believe in vampires?" Mulder challenged her. Jenny had told them what one of the provisions of the spell was. *All* people involved had to be believers in the magic. Silence fell upon them when she told them, and then they all looked to Scully. The same thought was running through everyone's mind. "We don't have time to find anyone else, Agent Scully, but we can't afford to perform this ritual if you don't believe." Giles told her. "And you don't even question Mulder?" Scully asked. Giles shook his head. "Agent Mulder, he is definitely a believer. Actually, I know quite a bit about Agent Mulder from his reputation. I know that this isn't the first run-in that he has had with vampires. I don't think he knows just how close he came to disaster the first time, however." Mulder was paying very close attention now. "How did you know about that? That was an official Bureau investigation. It wasn't public knowledge." "I'm a watcher, Agent Mulder. I know what to look for when it comes to vampire activity. I also know about other supernatural phenomena. I'm afraid that your reputation does precede you." Giles told him. Mulder seemed to accept his answer. "Well, Scully," Mulder questioned her, "do you believe? That's the question you have to answer." Scully sat there staring at the cage where the man paced back and forth. She couldn't deny that her gut feeling was telling her that this was inde= ed real. That none of her scientific background could explain away what she had seen since they had arrived in Sunnydale. She looked at Mulder, realizing that he did truly believe what these young people were telling = him. He had run into such creatures before. She had seen the autopsy report of that man who died from burns beyond anything she had seen before with simple sunlight exposure. She had seen a man explode into dust, and another transform right before her eyes. Most of all, she saw the total acceptance in Mulder's eyes, and the plea in them to, for once, throw down her skeptical nature and embrace the truth of something that she could not disprove. That's what it came down to. In her heart, she trusted and respected Mulder, and it was time to test that trust. She believed in Mulder, and he believed in this. With what she had seen already, that was enough for her. She looked up at Mulder, nodding. "I believe." Mulder knew what admitting that had cost Scully. Admitting that science could not explain everything, and that some things one just had to call = magic. That even though she had no scientific reasoning to believe that = a vampire was in that room with them, she could for once, believe her own eyes, and believe in him enough to take that leap of faith. Mulder = laid his hand on top of hers in support, smiling at her. "Okay, Fibbies," Xander interrupted. "Enough of this touching, yet badly- timed partner-bonding moment. We have a very bad vampire here that looks really pissed off. Shouldn't we get on with this?" "There is one more thing, guys." Jenny continued, "Someone who truly loved the person must participate in the ritual." All eyes fell to Buffy. She nodded. "And *that* would be me." "Yes," Jenny said. "But I have to have a symbol of that love for the spel= l. I have to offer it as a sacrifice for Angel's soul. Do you have something like that, Buffy?" Buffy looked down at the ring on her finger. She hated the thought of parting with it, but if it could get her Angel back, then she was willing to do it. All it did for her now was remind her of what she'd lost. She = took the ring off of her finger, and handed it to Jenny. "It looks like we are all set, then." Jenny replied. "Let's get started. = I need you all to form a circle around me." They all moved to follow Jenny's instructions. _____________________________________________ end of part 5 feedback? preeeeettttty please? ::grin:: sapphire@chaos.taylored.com - - ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Feb 98 21:37:24 PST From: "Sapphire" Subject: Re: BUFFYFIC: Welcome to the Hellmouth, Scully 2/6 Thank you so much! :) I hope that you enjoyed the rest of it :) Sapphire: sapphire@chaos.taylored.com X-Over Crossover list admin: X-Over: XF Crossover archive http://www.busprod.com/aclaybor/xover/ Gossamer XF Specialty Archive: http://www.busprod.com/aclaybor SPCDD; LOMIG: http://www.busprod.com/aclaybor/lomig ; G-Woman #3 Keeper of Willow's mometary obsession with sore thumbs - ---------- I am a major Buffy Fan (1.5 years) and XFiles Fan (since the begining) And this is true to both of them! you really have your characters down pat! - - - - ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Feb 1998 20:15:56 PST From: "Regan Dale" Subject: Re: BUFFYFIC: Welcome to the Hellmouth, Scully 1/6 oooohh... Thanks and enjoy! ____________________ Restoration ~ By Lea Slowly he opened his eyes, blinking in the light from the nearby street lamp, finally realizing he was laying amidst the bodies of three girls. The familiar blond hair and tiny form of the slayer shocked him into full alert. "Buffy!" Angel climbed swiftly to his feet, ignoring the pain in his body and head as he stumbled over to her inert form. He ran his cold fingers over her bruised and cut flesh, laying his head upon her chest as he listened desperately for a heart beat. Soon he was awarded with a soft fluttering rythmn, a sound that filled his mind and heart with an unspeakable joy. She was alive. "Buff." Her eyes fluttered gently, but remained closed. "Buffy!" He stroked his fingers over her cheek. "Come on, Buffy, you have to wake up now." Slowly her eyes inched open, coming to rest upon Angel's face. She paused for a moment, a slow smile warming her lips before reality came crashing down. With a yell of fear and hatred, Buffy drove her knee into Angel's stomach and rolled to her feet. "Buffy, wait!" Angel held out his hand, remaining in his crouched position on the graveyard ground so that he posed her no threat. Buffy grabbed a stake, spun it in her hand and dropped into her fighting stance. "Like you waited before snuffing out Ms. Calendar like a bad cigarette? Or did you wait and petrify her? Torture her as she begged you for mercy before you eventually got around to ending her life?!" Shock and pain flashed across Angel's face. "It wasn't me.. I swear." "Oh, what? Spike threw her across his lap and rolled her into Giles's upstairs bedroom? I don't think so.. he'd have just considered her to be meals on wheels! Or do you mean Drusilla killed her and for no reason decided to torture Giles with the body of the woman he loved laying cold in his bed? No, Angel, she may be insane, but only you are sick enough to do something this vile!" "No!" Angel pressed his hand to his forehead in grief. "It was my body, Buffy, but it wasn't me! It wasn't me as I am now!" Buffy rolled her eyes skyward, "So your soul has suddenly come back, has it? For no reason, with no help, just poof, there it is? Do I have moron tatooed across my forehead? Puleeze." He groaned in agony, still not moving except to sit. Finally he held his arms open wide. "Then kill me." "What??" "Slay me. I don't want to live this life without you." She blinked but made no move towards him. He lay back and remained staring at the night sky as he spoke. "When you are old and grey, and full of sleep, and nodding by the fire, take down this book and slowly read, and dream of the soft look your eyes had once and of their shadows deep. How many loved your moments of glad grace and loved your beauty with love false or true, but one man loved the pilgrim soul in you and loved the sorrows of your changing face. And bending down beside the glowing bars, murmer a little sadly how love fled, and paced upon the mountains over head, and hid his face amid a crowd of stars." Silence followed for a moment before Buffy's voice grew sharp. "You're reading me love poetry? Have you lost whatever's left of your arguably little sanity?!" "Yeats." "Excuse me?" "William Butler Yeats." He sighed as he closed his eyes. "He was a good man, an excellent poet... so many of his points were bang on. So many sorrows... they show so much..." His voice trailed off. "You look so much older, Buffy.. so much more sad. I'm sorry for that.. and for everything." Buffy gasped, hearing the break of sorrow in his voice, the guilt that clouded his every word. She took an unconscious step towards him. "Ange?" He refused to meet her eyes. "Maybe if we finally get this overwith I can be at peace. It would be nice to sleep without the nightmares.. the memories.. the grief... the guilt." His words from a year ago filtered into Buffy's mind. "You don't know what it's like to have done the things I've done, and to care." Her heart, which had been numb since finding out he had reverted to his previous self, suddenly broke and shattered. Tears poured down her face as she threw herself at him, holding him close. When no teeth sank into her neck and no cruel laughter followed the arms that wrapped around her, Buffy knew, at last, that Angel had returned. After a few minutes of mutal examination, fingers tracing painful cuts and bruises on the other's body, Buffy finally wiped the tears from her face and met Angel's eyes. "How?" she asked quietly, peering around the empty graveyard. Angel gestured to the shattered colored glass that lined the ground. "The orb. It held and then returned my soul." "What?!" "Where did you get it?" Slowly they climbed to their feet moving to sit upon a nearby gravestone. Both vampire and slayer kept their eyes carefully averted from teh bodies of the very dead teenagers. Buffy shrugged, "Some guy at a magic shop gave it to me." "How did you find him?" Buffy's voice grew sad, "We were trying to find out what Ms. Calendar was working on when you.. ah.. when she.. well..." "When I killed her." "Yeah. Anyway, turns out she went to this extremely weirdsome store. The guy there said she bought one of these the day she died. He gave me one as a gift, kinda in memory of her, I guess." Angel nodded, "Someone had to enchant my soul into the orb.. who?" She shrugged, "I have no idea. The only other person who even touched the thing was..." Her eyes lit up. "Willow!" Angel nodded, "If she had the restoration spell, and access to the orb.. she could have easily...." They both leapt to their feet and made their way quickly from the graveyard, past the school, the Bronze, and finally into the residential section of Sunnydale. Willow's bedroom light was burning brightly as the teenager watched out the window with expectation. As Buffy and Angel made their way up the walk, Willow sighed. She was going to have some serious explaining to do. ******************* End Part One. - - ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Feb 1998 01:59:07 -0800 From: Angel's Lover Subject: BUFFYFIC: Restoration ~ Part Two of ????? Unconsciously she moved to stand between Angel and her recently restocked aquarium as Angel moved deeper into her room. Angel cast his eyes downward, murmering a soft apology before moving back to stand at the door. Relaxing slightly at Angel's lack of agression, Willow climbed upon her bed, drawing her knees to her chest, and resting her head upon a stuffed bear. Buffy sat at the foot of the bed, her eyes flicking continuously from Angel to her best friend and back again. She sighed. "Okay, Will, share mode." The girl sighed deeply, and slowly began her tale. "First, I have to apologize to the both of you. Buffy, I didn't tell you because I didn't want to get your hopes up only to crush them again if it didn't work. You're my best friend. I couldn't do that to you. And Angel? No offense, but there was no way in hell I was going to risk warning you. I didn't want to.. well.. you know." Angel nodded, "End up like Ms. Calendar?" Willow nodded, "Yeah." Buffy gestured for her to continue. "Forgiven, now talk!" "K. When I was teaching the computer science class after.." her eyes moved to Angel again, "Um... while we were waiting for the new teacher and all, well, I found a torn printout. You see, computers are actually very organized machines, they print things like file names, present dates, page numbers, and things like that with every printout unless you specifically request it not to. Anyway, the sheets were from the night she... uh.. died." Dawning flashed across Angel's features. "The spell." She nodded, "I took it to Giles and we put it back together as best we could.. only when we read it nothing happened until..." Buffy inclined her head, "I showed up with that orb thingy." "Exactly! When you left it with me to examine, I took it to my meeting with Giles to go over the curse again. He was trying to translate it back into the original language to see if it would work better that way. Only when we read it out loud to check his translation something did happen... the orb glowed and began to shake. It was really weird, I tell you. I actually would like to re-examine the orb now that I know about it's powers and reactions and stuff. Maybe I could find out exactly what happens within the glass allowing it to ca...." "Willow!" Both Angel and Buffy groaned, knowing that their friend would go on all night if they let her. Willow bit her lip sheepishly. "Sorry.. I just get so excited.. and now that I know it actually works.. well.. you know." Buffy sighed, "I'll tell you what. You finish telling us exactly what happened tonight, and I'll take you back to that shop, tomorrow, and personally buy you ten of the orbs!" Willow's eyes lit up. "Oh, goodie!" She giggled, then sobered again. "Anyway, I started doing a computer search to see what the orb's purpose was while Giles searched through some of Ms. Calendar's books and notes. It turns out that the orb calls forth and holds the required soul until it can be transfered back into the body of the host." She took a deep breath and spilled out the rest quickly, "So, Giles and I surmised that by getting the orb and Angel together and completing the spell.. well.. it should work, right?" "So when I headed for the graveyard, Giles made sure I had the orb on me." Nod. "And he followed you, waiting for the right time to read the spell." Buffy looked over to Angel, and then into the mirror over Willow's dresser. "Could he have possibly waited any longer? I mean let me check my datebook, but I'm pretty sure the next millenium is good for me! Ack! We nearly killed each other tonight!" Willow shrugged, "He had to wait until the orb was in direct contact with Angel before he could release the soul. The odds that the soul could have floated into another dead body was too great.. and in a place like a graveyard.. if that happened.. well.. who knows what we could have ended up with.. in the end we decided we actually did want to make sure we put Angel into Angel." Willow giggled, "It would have been too hard to explain anybody else!" Angel smiled slightly at the girl's humor. "Thanks, Willow, for returning my soul..." Buffy broke in, "To the right body! I definately don't need a mouldy boyfriend! It's bad enough he's already 242 years old.. decomposition is a definate turn off!" She grinned at Angel, teasingly. They laughed tensely. An awkward silence fell upon them as nobody was quite sure what to do next. Buffy chewed on her lower lip. "I guess we should probably find Giles and let him in on his sucess." Willow glanced at Angel. "Uh.. Buff? Maybe you should go to see him... alone. He may not be so happy to see Angel anytime in the near future." She shrugged, "Maybe on Angel's 300th birthday.. but I doubt anytime before." Buffy frowned, but Angel nodded. "You're right, Willow, as always." He turned back to the tiny blonde. "It's all right. I'll walk you to the library, but then I need to run an errand of my own." Buffy hesitated, not wanting to let him out of her site so soon. "Can I meet you later, then?" Her eyes pleaded with him. They had so much to work out... anything else could wait. Angel nodded. "As soon as I do what I need done, I'll go back to the loft. Most of my stuff is still there anyway, but I'll have to do some cleaning. You can meet me there anytime you're free." She nodded and after giving Willow a quick hug and a soft thanks that she knew could never express her true gratitude, she wrapped her arm around Angel's waist, and the two stepped out into the night. It was good to once again have his arms to protect her from the chill of the night. There was so much they had to go over... but for these few minutes in the walk to the library she could at least pretend nothing had changed. Only the ache in the small section of her heart that had once held her affection for Ms. Calendar begged to differ. Too much had changed. The past was the past, they could never go back, but at least now they had a chance to build the future. ***************** End Part Two. - - ------------------------------ End of Buffyfic-digest V2 #43 ***************************** To subscribe to buffyfic or buffyfic-digest, send the command subscribe buffyfic-digest or subscribe buffyfic to majordomo@xmission.com.
