I'm new here, and I was wondering if anyone would be willing to read over the story I'm writing. So far, it only has three parts (none of which are more than two pages). I'd rather that my story wasn't horrible. Mildly bad I don't mind, but not horrible . The author claims no rights to these characters. SUMMARY: I’ve decided to help explain the past through a series of interludes that will be interspersed throughout the story as it goes on. This series is obviously meant as a companion to the aforementioned "Reunion." These flashbacks take place about 9 years before "Reunion," give or take a few months. Needless to say, if you haven’t read "Reunion," this won’t make much sense to you. If you don’t have parts 1-11 of it, you can write to me and request them. My address is Ingrid29@juno.com. Oh! BTW, I love to get feedback, except when my mailbox explodes, which is often, but send it anyway! "Reunion" Interlude # 1: "Lightning Cracks" by Ingrid The gas pedal almost buckled under her feet. When it’d seemed to recover, she slammed it down harder, the blinding light of insane hope pumping through her brain and twisting her nerves. She heard a crash as she sideswiped a Buick. She was ducking now, driving the car like it was a racing bike. The school parking lot was right ahead, but she wasn’t looking for the parking lot. A strange rhythmic pulse was driving her to even greater accelerations. In a moment, she realized it was the rock music blaring from the speakers of the radio she’d forgotten to turn off. She hadn’t noticed it for the five minutes she’d been careening through the neighborhood as fast as the car would take her. In the distance, she saw the smoke, the fire, and the figures near it. They grew larger, and soon she could recognize faces of flickering terror. She didn’t see the tree. Or Giles, for that matter. She watched herself crash into both without being able to do a thing to stop it. Then suddenly, nothing. And voices gradually became louder. They were screaming. Her head was stuck to the steering wheel. She yanked away, and heard a tearing sound. Blood dripped onto the dash. Without processing anything but the task at hand, she grabbed the orb from the seat. Damn. That had been close. What if it had smashed… Oh my God. She traced the crack in the orb and her heart sunk, but it was this or nothing. Giles was on the ground close to the tree, his leg a mess of blood and gore. His face was calm, and when he saw her with the orb, he looked up and the light of urgency lit his eyes. She ran to him, screaming his name, and how sorry she was, and thousands of other things he didn’t have time for. "Buffy!" He screamed at her and ripped the glass from her hand. Just then she heard another scream from behind the tree. She rocketed past it to see the body of a red-haired teenager enveloped in the vampire’s arms, struggling against him with every ounce of strength she possessed. But it wasn’t enough. Buffy couldn’t tell whether the roar in her ears was her own scream or Xander’s. All she knew was that she was going to kill him. Now. She knocked into him. He didn’t expect it, and Willow dropped to the ground. Buffy tackled him, and began to repeatedly smash at his chest. She didn’t have her stake? Where was her stake? In the car. She was dead, she realized without feeling. There was no chance for her. Dead. She waited for the inevitable onslaught, and winced as she saw him coil himself for attack. It never came. There were two distinctive flashes of light, and then all the rest was caught up in a glowing blur. Giles had cast the spell. Blackness swam before her eyes and she gave into the dark, shutting them, and relaxing against the ground. If it was the ground. She felt completely turned around now. Lost. And suddenly something sweet touched her, something more real than any dream. *He* touched her, pulled her to him, and she let him, completely still and dead. Somehow, she knew he was crying. Then all shimmered gold and white and she felt herself slip away. ********* END, INTERLUDE #1. "God help me, if he doesn’t stop, I’ll go out of my mind in a minute." "Why Don’t you? Her ex-boyfriend was busily sipping the blood from the neck of some unfortunate girl. Buffy could tell even from this distance that there was no chance to save this victim, but the moment she had been waiting for had arrived. This was her ultimate chance to kill Angelus once and for all. She looked down at the claddagh ring that she still wore upon the ring finger of her right hand. Its silver band shone in the white light of the nearly full moon, reminding her of the night Angel had given it to her. It had been the night of her seventeenth birthday, the night they had first made love, and the night she had lost him forever. Engraved into the silver band were three tiny designs: on either side, a pair of clasped hands; on the top, a royal crown; and in the center, a heart, the apex of which she wore pointed towards her. Angel had told her to wear it this way; in ancient Irish tradition this indicated that she belonged to him. Her finger caressed lightly the delicate designs, noting how softly the hands clasped the heart. They were designed so perfectly they seemed to cradle the heart as though it were a living, beating organ. She sighed. Angel's friendship had meant everything to her; when the Gypsy curse broke, turning Angel back into Angelus, Buffy had lost more than a lover, she had lost her best friend. = Her eyes shifted to the crown, noting how differently it had been designed. Though merely silver, without the colour of brilliant jewels to identify how rich its owner would have been, it drew her attention all the same. The two dimensional crown had a three dimensional effect as Buffy could almost see the actual crown waiting to be plucked from the ring and worn by a royal dignitary. The crown was supposed to indicate loyalty; but there was no reason she should remain loyal to Angel now. He was no longer the man she had once known; his vampire side had taken over, and destroyed everything. Buffy allowed her eyes to fall back upon the heart. Her finger lightly traced the very plain design. It was no more than a heart, carved with perfect symmetry into the flawless silver of the ring, only it seemed to shine more brilliantly than the other designs in the white gleam of the moonlight. = It was while looking at the heart that she finally sighed. Slowly she slipped the ring from her finger, twisting it in her hands so that the apex of the heart no longer pointed towards her. She no longer belonged to Angel. As she slid the ring back on, the glow of the heart faded into the shine of the rest. No thoughts of friendship, loyalty or love were going to keep her from doing her sacred duty. The part of her that had so cherished what the ring had once meant finally died, and she was free to do what she must. The body of the now drained teenager dropped to the damp earth with a sickly thud, and Angelus drew the back of his hand across his mouth. He grinned in the darkness. Buffy's eyes rose from the ring as he turned around. "Do you really think that gravestone can hide you, Buffy? I know you're there.. I can smell ya!" She rose from behind the gravestone and scowled. "Could you be any yuckier?" "Just wait until I sink my teeth into your soft throat, lover. You'll find greater pleasure in my feeding than you ever did in my arms." She sighed, "Apparently so." "Is this where it is to be, Buffy? In the graveyard? Where no one but the dead can hear your screams?" She shrugged, "At least you'll be among friends." She reached into her bag, "Ashes to ashes, Angel," and pulled forth a stake, "Dust to dust." With a growl he leaped forward, his arms outstretched for her neck. She ducked, her fist striking upwards connecting with his solar plexus. He gave a loud grunt and fell to the ground. Buffy pouted sarcastically. "Awwww.. did the big bad vampire fall down go boom?" He smiled up at her and licked his fangs, "Why don't you come down here and I'll give you something to remember me by." She scowled, "So over that minor detail!" He snarled and lunged upwards, catching Buffy by the shoulder and sending her reeling into a solid gravestone. Pain shot through her but she shoved it aside and stood. "Stick with me, baby, and you'll see stars!" He leapt at her again, his fist connecting with her cheek, the claddagh ring on his right hand cutting into her flesh. He laughed at the sight of her blood, spinning and allowing his foot to cut across her jaw. She counteracted easily, bringing him to his knees with a short cut to the legs, landing a punch upon his nose. The vampire was flipped head over heels and landed spread eagled upon his back. In seconds she was upon him, knees straddling his waist as she reached for her stake. He smiled coldly. "Gee... this seems familiar." A lightening quick movement had him twisting their bodies so that Buffy was trapped beneath him. His grin widened. "Yep, something's definitely coming back to me now!" "Yeah, well, keep it where it is!" Buffy clawed her nails across his face, causing him to pull back in a brief moment of pain. She grinned suddenly, "Hey, lover, remember this?" Her knee came up solidly between his legs, causing the vampire to howl in agony. He rolled off her and curled into a ball. Buffy climbed to her feet, as Angelus recovered. She bent to retrieve her stake, his arms wrapped around her; one encircling her neck, cutting off her breath, the other encircling her waist, drawing her firmly against him. Buffy was solidly pinned, gasping as she felt his breath hot against her neck. His teeth grated over the tender flesh of her throat, and Buffy knew then that she was going to die. The fight ebbed out of her, and she closed her eyes, groaning deeply as Angelus's teeth sank into her neck. Her awareness of his feeding didn't last long, however; all sensation slowly began to fade from her mind. She slipped into unconsciousness. A long period of silence followed... how long she did not know. Confusion swept over her as faded images of her life ebbed closer to her mind and then away once more. There was no pain, no hurt, only the irresistible urge to feed. Soon she opened her eyes. Angel stood above her, and as Buffy peered around, she took in her immediate surroundings. She was in a dark warehouse, hidden deeply away from the sunlight. Spike and Drusilla watched from nearby, the female vampire hardly able to contain her excitement as she awaited Buffy's awakening. Drusilla moved to Buffy's side and lowered her lips to Buffy's forehead. "Welcome," she whispered, "I've always wanted a sister." Her lips brushed against Buffy's ear as she giggled, "We can have blood parties, and I'll introduce you to Miss Edith, and you can listen to my birdie sing, he has the sweetest voice. Oh, and one day we're going to destroy the world. Want to help?" With a laugh of pure insanity, Drusilla spun in a slow circle, and then moved back to sit across Spike's lap, allowing Angel to move in once more. Angel held out his hand to Buffy, pulling her gently to her feet, their matching rings sounding a soft chime as they came in contact. He enfolded her into his arms, and smiled down at her. "Was it as good for you as it was for me?" Slowly she ran her tongue across her newly sharpened teeth, raising her hands to trace the demon form of her face. She reveled in the feel of the new contours of her body, feeling vampirical strength flowing through her. She grinned up into the eyes of the demon she would eternally "love", pulling him into a deep kiss before backing away and spinning in a circle of delight. She laughed aloud, a long cruel sound, as she rejoiced in her new life. "Better, my love, oh, so much better!" She pulled him back to her and together they danced slowly across the warehouse floor. Playfully she nipped his ear before whispering, "Now, show me the stars!" ****************** Angel's Lover (fondly known as Lea) "Love makes you do the wacky!" "When you kiss me I want to die."
