If you want to get this, ask me for them! ********* "Reunion," by Ingrid Part Twelve: "Xander" ********* The first thing that struck her as he emerged from the foyer was how different he looked. How much older. He was dressed in a handsome suit, a well-dressed reflection of his former self. "Hi," he greeted them gently. There was a tired edge to his voice. She’d heard it in Cordelia’s voice too. In a few seconds, he’d caught sight of Willow. "Hi, Xander," Buffy returned, and Angel only smiled as Xander made his way over to the baby and looked into her deep brown eyes. A secret longing seemed to manifest itself for an instant as he let the baby pull at his finger, and almost simultaneously disappeared. His eyes flashed and he looked up at Angel. They shook hands, and made eye contact. Angel could see the last night they’d spoken in glimmering painfully in his expression. That night… God That Night. Buffy wasn’t surprised when Xander swept her up into a big hug. This was the Xander she knew. The tiredness had scared her more than she’d have liked to admit. "Hi, Buffy." He *was* glad to see her. She breathed a long sigh of relief. "How’ve you been?" "Can’t complain," he answered with a pleasant grin as he pulled away from her. He looked at Cordelia anxiously and then back at Buffy and Angel. "Well, you’d better get down to work, I guess. We can talk at dinner. Do you have your suitcases in the car?" Buffy handed him the key. "Don’t strain yourself." She laughed. Just like old times. Sort of. "We set up one of the guest rooms for you," Cordelia explained. "You didn’t have to go through all that-" "No trouble," she assured her. Xander plodded out into the foyer, and they heard a door open. Instantly, Cordelia was all business. "Okay. Buffy, Corin and I have the prophecy almost completely translated. I’m sure Giles can take care of the rest when he gets here, but that could be a little while. He called me about 10 minutes before you got here. His plane was delayed." She turned to where Angel was sitting and addressed him. "Maybe you could take a look at it now?" "Sure," he shrugged, glad to be able to help. She went into the kitchen and returned staggering with a gigantic book. With an exhausting heave, she swung the book onto the table in front of Angel. The sound echoed through the high-ceilinged room. Xander, who had been making trips in and outside for the past couple of minutes emerged from the foyer and brushed his hands together. "All done." He noticed the book on the table. He directed his comment to Cordelia. "Hey. I told you not to move that book without me. Now your back’s gonna be sore tomorrow." "Don’t worry about it," she smiled. It melted into a look of concern when she saw Angel trying to adjust the baby in his arms so he could better read the prophecy. It began to fuss, threatening tears. Cordelia was about to say something, but Xander intervened first. "Here," he offered, holding his arms out in front of Angel. Angel flashed a concerned look at Buffy, and at her nod handed the child over to the other man. As soon as Willow settled in his arms, she was completely silent. Buffy raised her eyebrows, "Sure you haven’t had previous experience with kids, Xander?" He spoke to her though he watched the baby intently. "Nope," he smiled, as it giggled in response to his tickling it, "not at all." The corners of Cordelia’s mouth turned up slightly as she watched her husband with Buffy and Angel’s daughter A faint desire stirred within her for just a moment until she forced her mind back on work and regarded Buffy. "Now this is what we’ve figured out so far…" *** END, PART TWELVE "Lay beside me. Tell me what they’ve done. Speak the words I want to hear to make my demons run." - --Metallica, "Unforgiven Too" (No, I’m not a metalhead. I was listening to my brother’s CD, actually, and I thought "Hmm… Angel and Buffy?" First of all, I want to apologize for not replying before now; real life (tm) has been very unpredictable of late, leaving me with very little free time to write ANYTHING, be it fanfic or answers. In addition, since all of my stories are set before or very early into this season, recent events in the Buffyverse (particularly S/I and its aftermath) have left me with a severe case of writer's block, as I try to rewind my mind and remember what was and wasn't known or expected way-back-when. (There has been quite a lot of character development this season, and UNdeveloping them is not easy for me.) I wish I could say things will get better, but unfortunately they won't, at least not for the foreseeable future. Starting this weekend, I'll be taking several continuing education courses that will probably absorb all of my free time until further notice. Since I don't want leave everybody hanging for ANOTHER four months, I've decided to offer up what I have written so far as the base for a moderated round-robin challenge. By "moderated" I mean that I want to edit the chapters into a common format (straight ASCII, no smart- quotes, block paragraphs, new para for each speaker, spell-checking, etc.), send the edited version back to the author for revisions and/or approval, and forward the version approved by the submitting author to Buffy-Beta and Buffyfic mailing lists(1) and the Usenet newsgroup alt.tv.buffy-v-slayer.creative(2). I should be able to manage this, since editing takes a LOT less time than writing. I would like to have at least four people lined up for each story before we get started, and each author would have two weeks to write their piece after the preceding part is posted. Once I get the commitments I need for each story, I'll repost the original parts before the new ones. In case you've forgotten (it's been a long time after all) the stories are: "The Secret World of Willow Rosenberg" Buffy/Alex Mack xover (Prologue and 5 parts) (1) also to be posted on the WILLFIC list "REFLECTIONS: Warrior ... Innocent ... Fool" Buffy/Xena xover (Prologue and 4 parts) "MEN IN BLACK: The Hellmouth Incident" Buffy/MiB Movie xover (Prologue and 4 parts) (2) Also, in an attempt to break my writers block on these stories, I recently started a NEW Buffy xover (yes, I suppose I AM crazy) with the Showtime TV series "STARGATE: SG-1" which I only posted on the alt.tv.stargate-sg1 newsgroup and the sgfic mailing list so I wouldn't get your hopes up. Only three parts so far, and like the others I have no time to continue it. I call it "Hellgate: SG-1". I'll post what I've got to the Buffy lists and newsgroup, and if you like it we can round-robin it too. If anyone is interested in participating, please e-mail me at with "RR: (story title)" for the subject. - -- @==================================================@ | Dalton S. Stretching out with ease, she savoured the feel of the cool sheets against her skin, still warm from her exertions of the night. She purred softly with content as Angel lay beside her, slowly stroking her back, her soft skin covered only by light silk. "Did you have fun tonight, love?" he queried softly, his fingers playing lightly over the strap of her slip. "Mmmm," she murmured, arching gracefully into his gentle caress. "Can we play again tomorrow night? With the watcher and the gypsy?" Angel sighed lightly as he lathered her shoulders with tiny biting kisses. "Playing with a child is one thing, Buffy.. but the watcher?" Slowly she turned over, allowing the weight of his hand to settle upon her stomach before she arched up. Her teeth bit into the soft skin of his cheek, her tongue easing the abrasion as she kissed him lightly. = "Don't you want the watcher's heart, Angel? How many years has it been since you last sank your teeth into such a tender treat?" Again she bit him gently. He weakened as she drew the tip of her tongue languidly over his throat and softly nibbled on his adam's apple. "Too many years to count." His voice was a low rumble. Her tone turned bitter, "And how much would you like to drain the blood from the gypsy bitch?" He grumbled low in his throat, "Her blood would go far in soothing me." Her lips gently brushed across his, pulling back so that only her breath touched his skin, burning him slightly as she left him longing for the slight contact. Softly, she whispered, "Tomorrow's hunt would please me." Her fingers trailed teasingly down his chest, "Greatly." A smile slowly spread across his features, as once again promised pleasure warmed his cold body. Gently, he stroked the side of her face, a low growl building in his chest. "Tell me, how do I deny you, love?" Her tongue slid out to wet her lips as she smiled and replied simply, "You don't." Angel sank his fingers deep into her hair, drawing her hard against him for a searing kiss. Finally he sighed in resignation. "I can't. You win, Buffy. When we awaken, we go to the library and feast." ****************************** The day was not wasted. While the vampires slept, Giles, Willow, Xander, Cordelia, Oz, and even Ms. Calendar prepared for the immanent arrival of their one time friends. Phone calls were made, pleas were issued, reservations held, stakes were whittled, crosses were prepared, and water blessed while the humans waited tensely for the night to fall. Giles had worked all night and day on a plan, a plan Ms. Calendar was only too happy to help him put into motion. Ms. Calendar argued with her grandmother for a long time; in the end it was the death of Jenny's uncle that convinced the older lady to voyage to America. The flight from Romania would be a long one for the elders, but by the time the vampires arrived, everything would be in place. Tonight, with help, Giles would defeat his prodigy. **************************** They awoke early, Buffy's excitement too much to contain. They passed the several remaining hours of daylight in their room, preparing themselves for the night to come. Buffy nervously paced the room, her eyes tracking the path of the receding sunlight high on the walls. Finally, Buffy came to rest upon the black leather sofa that sat in the center of their room. Angel came to sit beside her, his expression concerned as she remained tense. Moving slightly, he pulled her down gently so that her head rested in his lap. Slowly, he began to caress her back, easing the knots and tension from her body in soft, sensual strokes. "What's wrong?" he asked as she finally began to relax beneath his hands. She shrugged, "Wigged, I guess." He nodded, smiling down at her reassuringly, "They have no slayer, love, and you know as well as I their strengths and weaknesses. Besides, they are mere mortals. Only you ever kept them alive this long." She giggled, "My bad." His fingers trailed slowly from her back to her side, his strokes becoming softer as she shivered lightly. A knock came at their door. As they were speaking, dark had fallen and the others were leaving for the hunt. Buffy and Angel looked at each other and smiled; it was time for them to go on a hunt of their own. Both vampires quickly finished the remaining blood before rising to their feet. Angel delicately wrapped Buffy's coat around her shoulders, slowly lacing her boots for her. Finally, all was prepared, and they moved from the safety of their home out into the mortal world. ************************ Angel's Lover (fondly known as Lea) "Love makes you do the wacky!"
