FEEDBACK: Greatly appreciated. RATING: PG, for the usual Buffy language. SPOILER: All episodes have happened, but major spoilers for "Passion" DISCLAIMER: Anything that has to do with the Buffyverse in anyway, belongs to Joss Whedon, WB, etc. Only the story is mine. SUMMARY: The gang restore Angel's soul, aided by the yellow disk. AUTHOR'S NOTE: I know I already wrote a story in which Angel gets his soul back, but this one is a direct sequel to my other two stories "Moments of Truth" and "Unexpected Confrontation" and is in no way related to my other one. This one takes place immediately afterwards, so if you didn't read those two, you wil be confused with this one. If you want to read them, email me privately and I'll send them to you. Oh, and this * represents thoughts. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Angel silently made his way to the grave yard and searched out a particular headstone. He kneeled down in front of it and placed a bouquet of flowers he picked up from a florist on the way at the base of it. The name Jennifer Calender was etched into the slab of stone. "Well, they did it, Jenny. I'm back in my body, and not feeling to elated about it," he whispered. "Why not?" a voice asked, as the shimmering image of Ms. Calendar appeared sitting on top of her tombstone. He sighed and looked at her. "It hurts inside," he answered shortly. "I think I'm going to leave Sunnydale," he stated. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hidden behind a tree not far away from Angel and the translucent image of Ms.Calendar, Buffy and the Slayerettes watched the exchange with growing interest. "Look at that," Willow whispered. "It's amazing." "Why's he talking to her?" Cordelia questioned. "Shh, I'm trying to listen," Buffy ordered. "He better not even think about leaving." "I won't stop him," Xander muttered. He shrank back and shut up quickly when he got a glare from Buffy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "You know running away won't solve your problems," the apparition told him. Angel was now on his feet pacing in front of her. "I know it won't, but is seems like the best course of action at the moment. All I keep seeing is flashbacks of the past few weeks. The fear in their eyes, the hatred...." "You made a mistake, just like I did," she explained. "I didn't make a mistake though," he reminded. "I let my emotions cloud my judgement, and that cost me my soul." "You didn't know what would happen," she offered. "I guess, but....." "Angel, do you really think that if they despised and hated you they would've returned you to your body?" When he didn't answer her she continued. "That's what I thought. You are their friend, you never would've done anything that the demon did." "But it was my hands, my voice, my body, that hurt them, that killed you!" he shouted. "It was just the body, not the soul. The demon manipulated your body to cause harm, there was nothing you could do. You know you weren't in the body with him or you would've put a stop to things long ago," Jenny inferred. "Why can't you accept the fact that we don't hate you?" a new voice rang out. Both Jenny and Angel whirled their heads around to see Buffy, Willow, Xander, Cordelia, and Oz strolling towards them from one end of the cemetary and Giles from the other. He was carrying flowers as well, which clearly indicated that he intended on visiting Jenny's grave, and was not expecting to see what he saw. "Hello, Rupert," Jenny greeted smiling. "Jenny," he whispered. "What are you doing here?" Angel inquired of Buffy and her friends. "I told you I needed to be alone." "It doesn't look like you're alone, besides it was Xander's idea," Buffy replied. "Buffy," Xander hissed, but she ignored him. "I just needed some advice," he added quietly. "Well here's some advice from me. Don't you even think about leaving Sunnydale," she warned, in one of those tones that dared him to defy her. "I just got you back, and I'll be damned if I lose you again." Angel closed his eyes tightly and whispered, "it's not that easy, Buffy." "We'll make it that easy," she replied firmly. "I know it wasn't you, you proved that when you visited us the other day." Giles and Jenny silently watched as Buffy tried to convince Angel that the demons transgressions weren't his, until Jenny spoke up again. "You know she's right, Angel. You need to move past this. Your soul won't be taking any more vacations, so...you better get used to it," she added. "Your not helping," he informed her. "Angel, please. We can work through this," Buffy pleaded with him. He stared at her for a long moment, and then nodded his head. Buffy gave him one of her beautiful smiles and jumped into his arms hugging him to her. His arms immediately encircled her out of instinct and he hugged her back. Jenny smiled victoriously and hopped off the gravestone. "Well, it looks like my work here is done," she informed them. She turned toward Giles and smiled warmly. "Goodbye, Rupert. And thank you," she whispered before fading out of view. "Goodbye, Jenny," he whispered in return, then he gently laid the flowers at the base of the grave with the rest, and followed the others out of the cemetary. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "So how are you feeling?" Buffy questioned Angel, as she sat in his apartment. "I guess I'm doing alright," he answered. "I have something for you," she added, as she handed his journal back to him. He took it from her hand and looked back up at her. "Did you read it?" he asked. "Every page." "And..." he prodded gently. "And, I realized that I loved you even more, if that's possible. When you came to the library yesterday, it put everything into perspective," she explained. "I then knew that you were entirely separate from your body, and it made things a little easier..." "To kill me," he finished for her. "No, to kill him. Angel you're not him, and I didn't stop loving you because some demon ran around in your body and tried to kill me," she corrected him. "Buffy, the demon is a part of me, it has been for over two hundred years, so when you refer to him I feel like you're referring to me as well." "I understand your viewpoint, but that's not how I feel." "How do you feel?" "When you left I-I...felt empty and alone. I cried myself to sleep almost every night, and I kept asking myself, why? Why were you taken from me, and I could never find an answer. Then when Giles told me that we could bring you back...that emptiness began to fill up with hope," she stopped and looked down towards the floor. "When I came to you yesterday and you started crying because I couldn't hold you, I felt that same emptiness. I would've given anything in that moment to hold you again, to tell you how sorry I was...to tell you how much I missed you...." Before Angel could finish his sentence Buffy bore upon him and covered his lips with her own. Surprise couldn't explain what he was feeling at the moment, so when she released his lips he just plain stared at her. "Wh-what was that for?" he asked, absently touching his lips. "I wanted to do that for the longest time," she smiled, and sniffled back tears. "I missed you so much." Angel grabbed her around the waist and drew her towards him. "I missed you too," he whispered into her hair, as he tightened his arms around her instinctively. She wrapped her arms around his neck and layed her head against his chest. "Promise me that you won't leave me again," she pleaded. "I'll never leave you, Buffy. I'll always be with you."
