Part 4 Xander falls into a chair, his breath coming rapidly. "Oh god. Oh god, please say this is all a dream and I haven't screwed up as much as I think I have." Giles looked at Xander curiously. "Excuse me?" Xander looked up at Giles and help his hands up, as if to hold him off. "Giles, I swear, I didn't do this one on purpose. It's nothing like the love spell. I swear it's not." Buffy sat up a bit straighter, temporarily ignoring the prophesy. "What love spell?" Xander winced. "Never mind." He looked between Buffy and Giles and took a deep breath. "We have a problem." He waited to explain till Willow had been called to the library. Everyone thought is was odd that Xander hadn't wanted Jesse to be present but he assured them that it would be explained in time. "Ok...last night I had a dream that I was out patrolling with Buffy." He went on to relate everything that had happened up to what the demon had told him. Then he went back and told them all the changes that had been made to reality because of his fantasy. Buffy frowned. "So what you're saying is that this weird dude shows up in your dream and grants your fantasy, and now all our lives have been majorly changed?" Xander nodded. "Yeah. Yeah that's about it." Giles looked furious. "How could you even possibly consider accepting his offer?! You have no idea what you could have done!" Xander jumped up,"Giles, I was dreaming! How was I supposed to know it was real!" Willow sat quietly thinking of how to handle this news. Willow looked towards Xander and said quietly, "So he says that you have to kill Angel or die? But if you kill Angel then the HellMouth opens." "And I die! Hello, let's not forget that point!" Buffy interjected. Giles began to pace, his hand covering his chin while he tried to think of a solution. "Xander, did he tell you what the price would be when he offered this to you?" Xander shook his head. "No! If he had even in the dream I would have said no! But all he said was I'll give you your wildest fantasy. Now personaly I would have thought wildest fantasy would have been more along the lines of wild hot sex, but I guess I'm wrong." Buffy shook her head and said quietly,"No. A fantasy is something you wish for, and expect to never happen. It's more than just a dream, it's stronger than that. And it doesn't mean just sexual things either." Giles listened to Buffy a trifle surprised at what she had said, "Uh, yes. You are correct. Now Xander, we must figure out someway to stop this demon. Otherwise the concequences..." Xander nodded. "Right. I am in full research boy mode. Just give me a book and I'll get to work." Willow headed to the computer. "I'll see if I can find anything about this guy online." Buffy sighed. "It'd be helpful if we knew a name." "Rasher. His name is Rasher." a rough voice said from the shadows. Buffy spun around, "Angel!" Angel walked forward, skirting around the patches of sunlight streaming in from the windows. "Rasher specializes in knowing humans' deepest desires and granting them. In return they work for him. Basically, you sell your soul, for the briefest of moments." Xander gulped. "Sell your soul?" Angel nodded. He looked towards Buffy quickly then back towards Giles and Xander. "I heard the whole discussion." Seeing the tension in the room thickening with every moment Buffy refused to say anything to Angel, Willow jumped up and flung her arms around him. "I'm so glad you have your soul again!" A sad smile crossed Angel's face as he hesitently returned Willow's hug. He leaned down and whispered in her ear, "Your fish tank is full again." Willow blinked then smiled happily. "Oh! Thanks, Angel, but how?" He smiled slightly, "I'll tell you later." Angel moved away from her and walked towards Giles, his hands slightly extended forward, the palms up. "Giles. I- I can't tell you how sorry I am about - " Giles cut him off, "Don't. Do not say anything about the incident I will not hear it." Angel looked at him, in surprise noting the stoney expression on his face. He nodded slowly. "Very well. Xander, we've got to get to work if your going to get out of this deal with Rasher." Looking between Buffy, Giles, and Angel Xander nodded. "Right, now how do we do that?" Angel looked Xander up and down and said flatly. "You kill him." Xander started to say something then stopped. "I kill him? I just dust him like a vampire and that's it?" Angel shook his head. "No, he's not like a vampire. You'll have to kill him, but how he must be killed is the question. You'll have to figure that out." Buffy jumped up and headed into the stacks. "Right! That means time to look through the books." Angel nodded. "Uh, yes, and then there will be training to make sure that you can fight him effectively." Giles pointed out. He looked to Angel and said quickly, "Would you be willing to help us with this?" Angel nodded. "Of course. It's my duty to protect the Slayer. Both of them." Xander took a book off the stack on the checkout desk. "Then let's get to it." Willow sighed, "I'll start the round robin. It's gonna be another all nighter." End Part 4 ************************************************************************* "Passion. Yadda, yadda, yadda. SONGS: "Elsewhere" By Sarah McLachlan..Fumbling Towards Ecstasy Buffy Summers stared out the bus window, watching the ocean as it moved wildly in it's own glory. It reminded her slightly of her own life, a whirlwind of emotions. Rising up, and crashing back down again. The way she had felt when Angel came back. If only for one moment he came back and she held him, she kissed him, and told him that she loved him. "Angel...." She whispered softly, fighting back the tears that threatened to engulf her. Buffy could still see his beautiful face twisted in horror, and his mysterious eyes filled with confusion and betrayal. He didn't remember anything at all. His expression was so child-like and innocent that Buffy's heart broke for him. Selfishly, she kissed him, and he kissed back, not understanding the full meaning of that kiss. He was so trusting, closing his eyes when told, and she killed him. "I'm so sorry...." She stifled back the sobs, so as not to disturb the other sleeping passengers. Buffy could still feel the peircing pain that gripped her heart as she plunged the sword into his stomach. His whispers, her name on his tortured lips, haunted her. They loved each other so much, but fate wouldn't let them be together. Now Buffy had to pay the price for it. **I love the time and in between The calm inside me, in the space where I can breath I believe there is a distance I have wandered to touch upon the years Of reaching out and reaching in, holding out and holding in....** Giles, Willow, Xander, Cordelia, and Oz sat silently in the library. All of them worried for their friend, and wondering whether a certain other friend had been saved. "Buffy would have at least called by now...." Xander finally broke the silence. Giles sighed. "Yes, yes, I'm aware of all that." "Maybe we should call her house....?" Willow suggested carefully. "Alright, I'll call...." Giles nodded, rising from his chair and moving towards the phone on the counter. "Don't you think it would be a little strange if a teacher from school called her house....?" Oz interupted. "Oz is right Giles," Cordelia added mater-of-factly. "Why don't you let Willow or Xander call?" Giles stopped and looked back to them. "I'll do it." Willow stood and quickly dialed Buffy's home number. "Hello....?" A weary voice asked into the phone. "Buffy?!" It suddenly perked up. "Ummm, no Miss Summers, this is Willow Rosenburg, Buffy's friend." Willow replied tentativly. "Oh, hello Willow. How are you feeling?" Joyce asked. "I'm fine Miss Summers, is Buffy home?" There was a silent pause on the other end. Then, finally, Joyce responded. "No Willow, Buffy ran away from home yesterday." Willow gasped and felt tears come to her eyes. "Why?" "We got into a fight. She said....she said that...." Joyce began to sob. "She said that she was a vampire slayer and that she had to save the world. I told her that if she left, to never come back but she left anyways. My poor baby is crazy Willow, she needs to find some help." Willow stared numbly at the others. "Miss Summers, Buffy is a vampire slayer. And, she did save the world." Joyce gasped. "What are you talking about? How would you know?" "It's true. I'm her best friend, and I have helped her before." Willow said gently. "Your just as crazy as she is!" Joyce screamed into the phone. "Don't call my house ever again!" She slammed the reciever down. Willow softly hung up the phone and turned to the others, unable to form the words. **I believe this is heaven to no one else but me And I'll defend it long as I can be left here to linger in silence If I choose to, would you try to understand....** Joyce Summers slammed the phone down in Willow's ear, blinded by a rage and denial which had never been so strong. "What is going on....?" She asked aloud, feeling the tears slipping down her smooth cheeks. Her sweet innocent daughter, a vampire slayer. How could something so tiny and beautiful kill something as brute and ugly as a fictionary vampire. "Oh, Buffy, please come home...." Joyce whispered, in a strained and heavy voice. Joyce crossed the room slowly, Buffy's room. Often, she would come into this room and see Buffy slamming this drawer shut. Maybe there was something in here....something that could help Joyce find her daughter. She silently slid the drawer open and stared in dumb shock. With trembling hands she reached in and removed three pointy wooden objects, a small glass vial of water, and a thick heavy cross. Joyce dropped all the items except for the cross, and knelt on her knees. She did something then that she hadn't done in a long while, she prayed. She prayed for herself, she prayed for Buffy, and she prayed for Buffy's boyfriend, Angel. Joyce finally knew the truth, and had a feeling that this mysterious Angel, had something to do with that truth. **I know this love is passing time, passing through like liquid I am drunk in my desire But I love the way you smile at me I love the way your hands reach out and hold me near I believe....** Angel lingered in the depths of hell. He remembered all that he had done these past months. Where his memory was once fogged, it was now clear and crisp, clearer that it had ever been before. Right as the sword hit him in the stomach, all the memories crashed into him. The guilt weighed him down, brought him crashing to his knees. He looked into Buffy's eyes, and he knew why she had to kill him. Buffy's destiny was to save the world, and she did, at his expense. He didn't blame her, only wished that he could take her into his arms and tell her that. Angel wished that he could tell her how truly sorry he was, how much he loved her. But now, here he was, paying dearly for all he had done. But deep in the depths of Angel's tortured soul, he knew that living near Buffy with the knowledge of what he had done to her, would be far worse than burning her in hell. But then again, living without Buffy was the worst torture in itself. **I believe this is heaven to no one else but me And I'll defend it long as I can be left here to linger in silence If I choose to, would you try to understand....** Buffy was moving on, changing her life. She would be the best Slayer ever. And when she went down for good, she would go down with a bang. When Buffy went down, there would be not a demon standing, not a demon still killing any innocents. Buffy closed her eyes and did something she hadn't done in so long, she prayed. Clasping her hands together lightly, she chocked back sobs. "Oh God, I know I haven't done this in so long. But, please, please, help me or at least listen to me...." Buffy was aware of all the other passengers who could probably hear her ramblings. "Please, save Angel from that hell, he doesn't deserve it. And my mom, please help her see that this is for the best. And God, please protect my friends." Buffy opened her eyes again, looking out the window. The tears slipped down her pale cheeks. "God, please help me to be strong...." **Oh the quiet child awaits the day when she can break free The mold that clings like desperation Mother, can't you see I've got to live my life the way I feel is right for me Might not be right for you, but it's right for me I believe....** Angel fell to his knees in the blackness, his hands in prayer stature. "Dear God, I know I've done so much wrong. But, I heard that you forgive all sins. I don't know if you could ever forgive mine, but I'm not asking for forgiveness Lord." Angel squeezed his eyes shut, tightly. The tears began to fall. "All I'm asking is for you to help Buffy be strong. Help her to see it's not her fault. Let her see that I forgive her, and understand....Let her see that I love her, and I always will...." **I believe this is heaven to no one else but me And I'll defend it long as I can be left here to linger in silence If I choose to, would you try to understand it I would like to linger here in silence If I chose to would you try to understand it....** ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Jul 1998 10:25:02 PDT From: "Black Fire" Subject: BUFFYFIC: Kender Chaos (1/?) Title: Kender Chaos Author: Black Fire Email: blackfire42@hotmail.com Feedback?: Yes, please. Summary: This is a crossover with Dragonlance that creeped into my head last week. Somehow, Tasslehoff Burrfoot has found his way into Sunnydale. (Any of you who have read the Dragonlance books can start running now. :P) I haven't decided yet, but I thing Fizban might be in Sunnydale also. It takes place before WML1. Why? Because I can have more fun with Spike in this situation than I can with Angel. (You scared yet?) Rating: PG Spoilers: None, unless you've missed most of this last season. For any of you who have read Dragonlance, Tas is coming in sometime after the Legends Trilogy. Disclaimers: All Buffy characters belong to Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy, Sandollar, etc. Tasslehoff and Fizban (if he shows up) belong to TSR, Margaret Weis, Tracy Hickman and all the others who have written for them in the past. I own none of them and can't afford to anyway. Kender Chaos Chapter 1 Buffy flew through the air and landed on her back with a painful ‘thud.’ With her attacker closing in on her, however, she waisted no time on the pain and got back to her feet. A swift kick to the chest sent the vampire into a large grave stone. From there on in, the battle was short-lived. Two more good punches subdued her opponent long enough for Buffy to find the stake she had dropped and drive it into the vampire’s chest. “One vamp down,” she said as she watched him turn to dust. “Another... billion or so to go.” She brushed the dusst off her and winced. Whatever she had landed on had been really hard and really painful. She reached behind her to rub the sore spot. The pain would be gone by morning, of course, but right now it was an annoyance. “Are you alright?” asked a familiar voice from her right. Buffy turned and smiled as she watched Angel walk out of the shadows. “Oh this?” she asked, still rubbing her back. “It’s not that bad, really. Serves me right for letting him sneak up on me like that.” Angel smiled and leaned down to kiss her. “See?” she said, returning the kiss. “I’m feeling better already.” The both smiled and stood there for a minute. Eventually, Angel took over the task of rubbing the sore spot on Buffy’s back. “That feels good,” she moaned. Angel smiled again, “So what happened?” “I don’t know,” Buffy whined. “I think he jumped out of a tree and kicked me. It all happened so fast. The next thing I knew, I was landing on a tree branch or something over there...” Buffy stopped short as she pointed over to where she had landed. She found herself pointing at a staff of some sort. Buffy went over for a closer look. What she found was a tall, oversized slingshot lying on the ground. That was strange enough. Even stranger was that the thing was held fast by the tight grip of a tiny hand extending from a small, hooded and cloaked figure that was lying on the ground behind it. “What the...” she said as she kneeled down next to the unconcious form. She reached under the hood and felt for a pulse. It was there, fortunately. Buffy heaved a sigh of releaf, thankful that she hadn’t killed the poor, little thing. “Buffy look,” Angel whispered. “What?” she asked. She followed the line of his fingers to where her hand was. “What the...?” As she looked down at the figure, she noticed that she had drawn the hood back far enough to reveal the tip of a pointed ear. “What is it?” she asked “I don’t know,” Angel replied. “Well then,” she sighed, “I guess we’ll just have to take him to Giles. He’ll love this.” She rolled the little figure over and pryed the staff from its hand. Gently, she gathered the creature up and handed it to Angel. Grabbing the staff, they set off for the school library, where Giles would be waiting for her report. * * * * * “I don’t know what it is,” Giles said, after studying the creature for some time. Buffy and Angel had brought it in and laid it on the library table. Willow, who was also there, found a couple of blankets and wrapped them around the unconcious creature. Giles had studied it for a long time before coming to his inconclusive conclusion. The creature was not quite four feet tall, very thin and nimble, from the looks of it. The thing sported a topknot that fell just below its shoulders, well-made clothes and boots and bright blue leggings. A wide variety of pouches - which Giles had decided were best left alone for now - hung from its waist and shoulders. But it was the creatures face that drew most of the attention. With its pointed ears and its face relaxed in its state of unconciousness, the creature had all the outward appearance of being an innocent little child - an observation which, Giles had said, could be very misleading but, none the less, caused the two girls to comment, several times, on how cute it was. “What do you mean you don’t know,” Buffy asked. “I mean I have no idea what it is,” Giles commented. “There is nothing in my books which discribes such a creature.” “Well,” Willow said, “books don’t always give accurate discriptions. Can you, maybe, take a guess?” “I’m not even sure I can do that,” Giles said, confused. “I want to say that it’s an elf, but it’s too short. Though it’s certainly short enough, it doesn’t fit *any* description of dwarves or gnomes that I’ve heard of. And it’s not short enough to be a leprechan. I’m at a loss.” “There’s one I never thought I’d hear,” Buffy mumbled. “Mmmmm,” the creature suddenly groaned as it finally started to stir. The four turned their attention back to the little creature as it opened it’s eyes and sat up, shaking its head. It didn’t leave the table, but started looking around, a glow of facination coming over its face. “Where am I?” it asked, in a high pitched, but decidedly male voice. “This doesn’t look like the Great Library of Palanthas, unless Astinus has done some remodeling since I was here last.” His eyes widened. “Maybe I’m in the Tower of Wayreth! Maybe the wizards want to thank me for helping to save the world from Raistlin! How wonderful! Maybe they’ll give me a magic ring or something that will send me to the moon!” The creature got to his feet and jumped down off of the table. Eagerly, he started to explore his surroundings. All the while, he continued babbling on about one thing or another. “Who are you?” Buffy asked. He turned around. “You speak Common! Wonderful!” he exclaimed. “It’s the language I know best. I know others, of course, but not as well. I don’t speak them as often as I should. Tanis said something to me in Elven once and I almost didn’t understand it. It’s a good thing I did though, or else we’d have never gotten out of that temple of Takhisis.” He stopped talking long enough to catch his breath. As he did, a realization came over him, “Oh, I’m terribly sorry, I didn’t introduce myself. That was rude of me, wasn’t it. I’m Tasslehoff Burrfoot,” he said with a bow at the neck that sent his topknot whipping, first forward and then back, almost slapping Angel who was sitting behind him. “But my friends call me Tas.” The Black Fire | "Don't worry, I'm not here to eat."
