I also like Gary Smith "the chartist" - he's a Marder waiting to discover the fundamentals behind the charts, but his analyses are right on. And of course Cramer is entertaining & I had dismissed his "Red Hots" as fad stocks but hey if you can make a ton of dough, why not join the party? I will be watching his Red Hot and B2B lists closely in the new year. I only wish it had some screening tools to go with the excellent content. I have to say that I am very impressed with the content of each and every email -- including the Christmas carol email. I am new to IBD and have raked up decent gains (for the first time) after following stocks with good EPS/RS. In my effort to try and develop a good method for making money, I have come across some similarities in strong stocks. I wanted to share these and find out if they are really true. 1. Any strong stock generally bounces off one of its moving averages 2. The moving average can be 10, 20, 50, 100 or 200 3. Each stock has its moving average bounce line 4. New Highs are reached 1 to 8 weeks after bouncing off the MA Examples: MSFT has a bounce point of 200 day moving average (see today's IBD) NTAP has a bounce point of 10 day moving average (last time it bounced off 20 day MA) ADIC has a bounce point of 50 day moving average ZOMX has a bounce point of 50 day moving average VRTS has a bounce point of 10 day moving average SUNW has a bounce point of 50 day moving average QUESTION: How accurate is this information? Can this information be used to buy deep in the money options for a return of 50% to 100%? How many people have used this method of trading? What are the pros/cons of this kind of method Regards, Pritish - - ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Dec 1999 09:20:17 -0800 From: "Jack Wood" Subject: RE: [CANSLIM] Re: Cup & Handle Screening Online Bill: All I can find at www.stocktables.com is the advertisement that they plan to provide the cup and handle screens sometime in the future. Another common one is the 20 day exponential average, seems like stocks will frequently dip down and hit it and bounce, I think this is a favorite of traders. There is even a trade called the Holy Grail based on this idea. I guess one drawback to this concept is that you are buying a stocks that is heading down, guess you need to make sure it is a market thing and not a stock thing. I'm not sure you want to optimize and try to find a different average for each stock, the two I mentioned along with the 200 day seem the most commonly watched moving averages. - - ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Dec 1999 21:56:20 -0500 From: inderjit singh Subject: Re: [CANSLIM] Great day Great Wheather! Greetings, I have just been notified by a group of list owners that there is a particularly virulent email virus propagating through the Internet. The details of this virus can be found at Symantec's web-site: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/worm.newapt.html There is little possibility that this virus could be spread through the CANSLIM discussion group since our list software is configured to reject all non ascii-text email. However, you should be cautious of all other email you may be receiving -- particularly email with attachments. I would urge you to update your virus software. If you do not own anti-virus software, perhaps it is time to take the plunge...
