The checked the Merrill Lynch site but could not find anything. More specifically, I am a little confused about how they trade. Is it like an open-ended mutual fund that trades at the combined value of the stocks it holds with the only difference that you can trade throughout the day, not just at the closing value? Or, it is like a closed-end mutual fund which can trade at a premium or discount to the "value" of the stocks it holds? I have heard both ways and am confused. These securities trade like stocks, and each in fact represents a basket of 20 underlying industry group stocks. I have traded the Biotech HOLDR (BBH) and the original Internet B2C HOLDR (HHH) since they were created last year, and have been well rewarded. Today three new ones were announced. The following is an excerpt from today's Dagen column in theStreet.com: > It's looks like Merrill Lynch (MER:NYSE - news)isn't going to stop creating > HOLDRs until there's one for every taste. > > The firm just filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission to introduce > three new HOLDRs that divvy up the Internet: B2B Internet (BHH:Amex), > Internet Architecture (IAH:Amex) and Internet Infrastructure (IIH:Amex). > > Each security will represent a 20-stock basket that will trade on the American > Stock Exchange. You will need to use the full-text search and the keyword "HOLDRs." > Hopefully, Merrill will soon create a Web site for these products. > The FreeEdgar site mentioned in the article is at: www.freeedgar.com It is well worth a visit to find out the exact components of each HOLDR. Even if you do not want to buy the HOLDRs, you may want to use them to track industry group performance. I like the way that Merrill Lynch has organized these internet industry groups a LOT more than the way IBD does. IBD's internet industry groups make no sense to me. There is new software due out in the next few months, and I am hoping that they will open up the entire data base then. As it is now, you can get both charts for all stocks, but you have to type in the symbol, or create a symbol list from another source, then import it, before you can scroll thru a list. The list grew a little this week, up from 122 to 146. More useful, I saw more charts showing basing patterns than before. May be a sign of some sideways movement, which would be constructive, esp if the volatility is reduced. May also be a sign of a pending correction in NASDAQ, esp with another Fed meeting in a few weeks and the likelihood of a qtr pt hike (last week's reports having calmed down the fears of a half pt hike). Here's the margin notes (as before, B/x means base/nr of weeks or base/s = base/starting): ITWO - B/S SILI - B/3 TLGD - B/1 QLGC - B/S SDLI - B/S, possibly topping BOBJ - B/S RFMD - B/S QGENF - B/1 VSAT - failed b/o KEI - B/1 SMTC - B/4 NT - B/1 PWAV - B/1+ SNDK - B/1 DAVX - B/3 AMKR - B/S VARI - B/S CBXC - B/S BBRC - B/1 ADTN - B/3 ADI - B/1 DIO - B/3 DIAN - failed b/o from B/5 ALTR - B/S XLTC - B/2 VSH - B/1, topping?
