If you dont mind spending more its not going to make much difference what you get, unless you are motorcrossing......mmmm, nasty thought. Looks like the way to go is to find some kind of abrasive polish for metal/glass/plastic after rubbing with wet, very fine sand paper. And lots of time of course. I'm in the UK and unfortunately don't recognise the products mentioned but there must be equivalents. I already use plastic restoring stuff like you would use on a car interior, plastic bumpers etc, which helps, but tends to dry out too quick or get washed off, so not perfect. I always worry that I come across the wrong way in emails. In case anyone wonders, I dont take many things seriously, apart from looking after my family. Bikes are just for play aren't they ??? Oils - my air cooled (not neglected) DR kills normal oil in less than a few hundred miles (gear change notchy). Semi synthetic not much better. Fully synthetic - aaaah ! - much better! No probs at 900 miles when I change it anyway. Seems to be clutch drag related - with normal oil its difficult to select neutral and you can feel it dragging. My water cooled KLX runs cooler and is always smooth, as I'm sure the DRZ will be (and hence, perhaps doesnt need synthetic oil so much) BUT - you have to consider what happens to the clutch particles as it wears, floating around in your oil. Especially off road. Hence you still need to run short oil change intervals even if your sexy synthetic, gold plated stuff still has a high shear strength. Also, be wary of anything above 10W - oil ways in a motorcycle are TINY. Unless its very hot where you are. Chucking it down here today. Most likely you just need a fluid change, plus a new seal if the old one's leaking. Total cost there: Perhaps US$50-100 (not sure of the seal cost). And while you're at it, upgrade to GoldValves, creating a custom-valved shock for you and your riding style. Perhaps another US$150. I have a write-up on how to do this -- let me know if you'd like a copy. Here's a web site you might be interested if you want to know more about it. http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/2195/engineoil_bible.html I run Castrol GTX 10W-30 in my '95 DR350. I ride strictly dirt and I push it HARD. I've never had any real problems other than a few drops being burned after a long weekend. I change my oil after every 20 hours or so depending on how hard I actually ride. I live in Texas where the weather changes almost day to day. We've had some really nice weather lately (70's and 80's F) so I might have to reconsider the viscosity when it gets warmer (100's F). Just my 2 cents Ric Perry nice email, made me smile.
