The III+ is designed to run on something like 6 to 20 volts (don't quote me). When power is cut to the GPS completely, it gives you a warning that says "touch a button or I will turn off in thirty seconds". That is of course if you have batteries in it. Thumbing the starter wouldn't be that long anyway. I have mine wired so that +12v is only on with the key on. If I stop for a short time, I hit a button and it runs on it's internal batteries until I turn the key on again... seems to work fine. JB >>> "Doug B" 04/23/00 09:21PM >>> Who has their GPS III or III+ wired direct to your DR's electrical system? If anyone does have it wired this way, does the GPS stay powered up when you hit the magic button to start the bike, or does it momentarily shutdown due to the dip in voltage? I have a button-start DR and this issue is a concern for me before I mount a GPS on my bike. With my helmet cam wired to the bike, it shut's down when I fire off the starter, then I have to fiddle with the camera to get it going again. It would be way too annoying to lose a portion of a track log when I stopped for a break and the GPS shutdown when I was ready to start the bike again. I am planning on wiring direct to the battery, as I already have a wire behind the headlight shroud that goes direct to the battery for my grip heaters and helmet cam wiring. Doug, I have my G-III wired direct to the battery. It does not shut off when you start the bike, it takes very little voltage to run it. Just remember to shut it off when done with your ride. It can drain the battery in about 4 days. I've ridden a '98 DR359SE with factory brake components, and it seemed relatively crisp on the front. I had mystery mushy brake syndrome on a '91 RM 125 that I had rebuilt... I must have bled the system through 6 or more times. Turned out that bracket that the caliper pins screw into was ever-so-slightly bent causing the pads to be just a tiny bit off from parallel to the rotor. Every time you pulled the lever, it would twist the caliper and flex the rotor a bit, giving you that wonderful vague mush feeling. - -Rich - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chris &/or Sheila Beauchemin" To: "DR list" Sent: Saturday, April 22, 2000 12:02 AM Subject: (dr) Mushy front brake > Howdie gang, > > My recently acquired '97 DR350SE has a front brake that feels mushy. Is it a special (small , light) camera or just a 'normal' video camera ? I probably will not record whole trips, but it I would like to do some records 'just for fun' and see how it looks on the TV if I ride my bike offroad. Concerning your question about the GPS wiring: I have no personel expirience, but I would expect the voltage go down very much during the start, no matter where you connect the cable. If your GPS has own batteries (as Jim's) you should not have problems. You could try to measure the voltage of your DR while you press the magic button and see if it is within the GPS's specifications.
