The only (kind of dual sport) bike I know that does not need tubes is the BMW GS. All other rims let the air pass along the spokes. The procedure to mount tubeless tires is the same as with normal tires, except that they may sit better and are more difficult to mount. I have done it twice on the GS of a friend and finally it worked. Buy a set us those special ttols (don't know the english word) and don't use screwdrivers. I have no idea why they don't inflate, sorry that I cannot help you more. Rainer ________ Jim schrieb: > I picked up a pair of road specific Metzeler's recently and they're > tubeless tires. Hi Bob, I've used Slime in my dirt bikes for the past couple of years and have not had a trailside flat tire since doing so. Quite frankly, I've had such good success with it that I would not even consider going off into the boonies for an extended ride on a bike that does not have Slime in the tires. I was compelled to start using it when it seemed that almost every time I went out for a couple of days of riding I would have at least one flat tire. While I've always carried spare tube, etc., to do trailside flat repair, it's a real bummer to spend so much time fixing flats instead of riding! One point to note is that Slime does make the tubes a bit messy to deal with when you're doing tire changes. And I think it may even slightly weaken the tube over an extended period of time because I've seen that some of my older Slimed tubes can feel a bit "mushy". For that reason, I tend to always replace my tube whenever I replace the tire (usually once per year, sometimes more often) and of course I re-Slime at the same time. As for the effect on tire balance, I think if anything it improves the balance. The fluid will form itself to the outer perimeter of the inside of the tube as the tire spins, and this will tend to level out any small out-of-roundness. This is a natural prerequisite on ANY bike/system before getting further into the prob. My dr650 had a lump of mig wire accross the flange face on the header pipe, so that would have been 'leak #1' right at the start. Having eliminated that possibility as a matter of course, next is jetting. Most obvious is to go up one or two sizes in the primary jet then reset the airscrew. My local Dynajet shop suggests taking it one step further in refinement, particularly if I want to buy some bench time - he suggests that the popping can be solved plus other gains, by - needle up a notch to richen the midrange (plus he says this may richen the idle slightly enough to stop the popping, even tho needle supposedly doesnt effect idle . . ), a size smaller main to compensate for the richer needle flow, then a final fiddle with the airscrew. Will advise the list if/when I go down that route. IMeanwhile, it would be helpfull to us all if we could assemble a table of jet sizes which are known to have solved the pop-prob, & also work to improve performance with various pipes.
