Then later I got a set of marzocci 45mm off a CR 250 95 model with the triple clamps all I had to do was press out the honda stem and press in the DR stem and they work fine I had to get the brake carrier from PPS, marzocci disributors. But this tells me that the RMX would be an easy switch just press out the stem and press in the DR and change the bearings John Gill has done this to his you might check with him as to what problems he had in installing the RMX forks on his bike. (Was Newbie Questions) I might have to try the brake line trick also. I just got finished bleeding new fluid into my front brakes on my '92 350S, and the brake still won't stop the wheel (while pushing) even though the response from the brake lever is good and strong. Anyone have any other thoughts? On another note, I was in the process of starting my bike to take it to get some air in the front tire, when the kick stand snapped on me, and left me in a slightly embarrassing position. Using the kick stand to start the bike, you say? Well, I'm 5' 5" and not much of that is leg length. I've got no choice but to use the kick stand while starting, unless the bike is well warmed up. Any ideas on price of a new stand? Until I get one, I'm kinda screwed, what with that stupid switch that I've never taken the time to disable. Mike: The problem with the stock front forks is they have to much high speed compression and not enough low speed rebound. When you installed the heavier springs you need to increase the rebound, and decrease the compression. A fork brace is the best improvement one can make for minimizing the flex. To my knowledge the 89-97 RM or RMX front forks will fit if you exchange the lower tripple clamp stem with the DR's. Then it's a bolt on as far as the forks are concerned, having the RMX or RM front wheel and brakes just makes it easier, as no spacers etc are required. If you have a choice, the 96 & 97 RM dual chambered 49mm conventionals are awsome for enduro type riding, as they can be revalved for a very plush controlled ride with mininum stickshon. The down side is the fork tubes hang down below the axel. The up sidedown type forks are a big improvement over stock but are pretty rude on the small stuff unless the compression and rebound shims are changed and the air blead is vented. Anyone have any other thoughts? >> Joel; Don't even think about trying the brake line replacement, just do it. The Clymer's manual I have for my '93 DR350 says to replace both brake lines around the 2-year mark. When was the last time the calipers were rebuilt? I'm thinking maybe the front one has siezed up; if it's never been done, this might be the time to tear into them (do front and rear 'cause Murphy's law will have the rear one sieze about 2-3 days after you finish working the front). Make sure you've bled all the air from the system. Don't know offhand the price for a kickstarter lever, but it might not be too bad if you were to order one new. Check out the online salvage yards first; fire up your favorite search engine and punch in "motorcycle salvage". Check where you live for salvage yards; the DR's a popular bike so there should be some out there for salvage. Look in the back of "Dirt Bike" or "Dirt Rider" mags, there's usually a couple of ads for salvage yards. But if you insist on the 36mm FS (recommended for 385cc up), then I have one for sale ($100US; $250 new; you pay shipping), White Brothers Part No. 15-726 (for a '90-'93 S model, but will fit all of the dirt models w/an extra boot and manifold I have), in the original WB Mikuni box, plus an assortment of jets. It comes with a nice Gunnar Gasser whirlpull throttle and cable, of which you will need as you cannot use theFS mikuni with the stock cable and throttle housing - to answer your original question. Additionally, I have a UNI foam filter if you want it.
