One of the nice things about this book is Cook tried to capture the feel of the 30s - 50s detective novels as opposed to modern. Chandler and the other hardboiled types come to mind - and while it is a fantasy book it has a completely different tone from the Black Company and Dread Empire. For example - when Garrett finds Rose with the stake on the trip home and spanks her with it - definately something you won't find in a modern detective novel, and very out of place in either the BC or DE. Little anachronisms like that are sprinkled throughout the novel. But I doubt there's enough of a market for one. Meisha Merlin might be a better bet - they do small(ish) print runs of stuff with die-hard fan followings - they've reprinted some of Janet Kagan, Miller & Lee's Liaden novels (including three new ones), P.C. Hodgell - I think a GC collection might be right up their line. - -- Moderation is for monks. ======================================================================= To unsubscribe, subscribe, or access the archives of this list, visit . ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Feb 2001 00:28:51 -0500 From: "Edward Bilodeau" Subject: (glencook-fans) The Black Company of 1525 My brother forwarded the following link to me, telling the story of a real Black Company that existed in Germany in the 1500's. I wonder (as does the author of this page) if there is any link with the novels. In any case, thought some of folks here might find this interesting. (Also, I'm fairly new to the list, and while I have read the FAQ, I haven't read all the archives. My apologies in advance if this is old news ;) Tks Ed Bilodeau http://www.calebos.org ======================================================================= To unsubscribe, subscribe, or access the archives of this list, visit . ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Feb 2001 21:53:21 -0800 (PST) From: Douglas Bishop Subject: (glencook-fans) Re:The Black Company of 1525 Did I miss something?
