I have a question regarding the Simpsons last night... The scene where MWH was played involved Homer believing he had travelled back in time (to 1939) because he was listening to an oldies show on the radio. His friend Carl sent him forward in time by switching to a station playing "Safety Dance". Here's the question... why did playing "Safety Dance" make Homer believe he was back in the present time? Shouldn't it have made him think that he was now in the 80's? Or is this an observation that MWH are still part of the present as far as popular music goes? Or maybe I'm just reading too much into a cartoon. In a scene where they showed a clip on the streets of New York, there was a man wearing a MWH tee, exactly like the ones distributed on the list. Ah this remind sme of a book I read about bootlegs. It talked a lot about Beatles bootlegs and how they came from acetate discs made by the BBC distributed all over the world to affiliates of the BBC World Service. For anyone who's interested, these are the same recordings found on the "Live at the BBC" set but there were much much more. These were also called transcription discs if I remember correctly, and were intended to be played once. A tiny BBC station somewhere in India might still have some of these. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info hats" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email hats@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # Men Without Hats discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?hats ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: richard@holdman.com Subject: RE: (hats) MWH Master Records Date: 18 Mar 1999 09:06:22 -0700 I have not even played them yet - They look brand spanking new. The "Safety Dance" has made an appearance on yet another compilation put out by Chronicles/PolyGram Records called, "The Electronic Eighties Volume 2". (Yes, there is a volume 1, but it doesn't have any Hats-related material.) If you want to read the review, go here: http://www.westnet.com/consumable/1999/03.19/rev80s.html The review itself doesn't mention Men Without Hats, they're only listed in the track listing. Just wanted to let all of you "completists" out there know that you must rush out and buy another CD that has Men Without Hats on it.
