Thanks agin Crazy Cyot Crazy I am stunned. How could you be so unappreciative. Why that mule carried the blanket and tarps that kept you from freezing to death. She carried the shovel that dug the plants we breakfasted on, and the hawk that helped make the fire that made the coffee that quenched your parched lips. Least you remember we even figured out how to pack our rifles on her for a spell, you did not talk so bad about her when she had your fine smoothie in her possesion did you? Here you are now owing your life and well being to that mule and you call her . . . well that U word? I am stunned. Well I wont tell her you said it, mules can hold a grudge ya know. Course you never know with fellers like Allen around they might whisper in her ear ( an easy task I might add). Perhaps you should treat her real good next time you meet up on the trail. She likes to be itched around her ears, and on the bottom of the neck. She is especially fond of scratching on her ass right next to the tail. Ya maybe ya better scratch her ass next time ya see her. My mailman, Gary, is a direct descendant of Daniel Boone. If I recollect the story correctly, Gary's family had one of Daniel Boone's long rifles until a couple of years ago. The larger Boone family pressured them for years to put the long rifle in the Boone museum. Gary's family finally capitulated, but they were sad about it--especially Gary and his brothers, who are bp hunters. > << Think on the bright side. The book "The Longrifle" is part of a trilogy called "the saga of Andy Burnett". The Lonrifle is a great story, but is only the first part.... If you can find it, it's a great read. I contacted the publisher a long time ago to try to encourage them to reprint the whole saga. They said..."we'll see...." A friend had an old copy, which he lent me to read. Disney did a movie related to this story, as my friend told me. Andy leaves the Mtns. and goes to california. Marries a senorita, starts a ranch "folded hills" and becomes involved in the Bear Flag revolt....
