Ben, Do NOT use rawhide. First of all it will rub the blueing off your pistol. Second the first time it gets damp it will be a slimy formless mass. I would use a high quality vegatable tanned leather, 8-10 ounce. Coat the pistol in STP and shove it into your well saturated holster. If you have any questions feel free to contact me off list. Reading a few of the post concerning rawhide in wet weather, this is how I prevent soakage for my knife sheaths. I wipe the sheath down with contact cement, do the same with and old piece of buckskin and let the rawhide and buckskin meet. Makes a great looking sheath and if you want to water proof it then just wipe in waterproofing agent, I use crisco. If you want to decorate it then you just do shallow stitches on the buckskin with glass beads. Probably would work well on a holster. I'm gonna have to try it since I have two Navy Colts and an 1858 Remington and only one holster. Fun guns to shoot. This is a must have book in your Western Fur Trade library. In the past I have auctioned off two of these books through these e-mail lists. Once again I am willing to auction off this book to the highest bidder, take out the cost of the book and shipping and donate all the left over proceeds to the land fund. I got a great deal on the book, so most of the money will go to the land. The book is a First Edition hard back. It is an ex-library copy with the usual stampings. There is some minimal underlining in pencil in the first part of the book, I didn't notice any throughout the paintings section. The binding is in excellent shape as is the cover. It does come with a slightly tattered dust jacket. Here's your chance to get a great book and help with the land fund. I will set a very reasonable reserve price on the book. If bidding doesn't reach the reserve, I'll try again later and then just sell it at a rendezvous and donate the proceeds from there. Let the bidding begin! Bidding closes next Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. I'll keep everyone updated by posting to this list. If you wish to bid in private, e-mail me directly and I'll keep your identity off the list.
