It does now look as if a Kalevala 'album' CD-R will be going ahead, but in very limited numbers; maybe about 10 copies or thereabouts. But before my friend and I start burning the CD-Rs (tomorrow night perhaps) it would be nice to get people's suggestions about what the tracklist order should be for the 13 tracks on the Kalevala singles. What order were they produced in? Any info would be much appreciated. So, if you would, please rearrange the following 9 albums in order of preference (favourite first) and send the reply to s.bruce@ucrysj.ac.uk. The prices are near original prices even for deleted items. Record Runner. 5 Jones St. (212) 255-4280. If you are walking on Bleaker, Jones St. is before you would reach Rebel Rebel. It's near the other end of the street from Bleaker. They seem to specialize in deleted items, both CDs and Vinyls. Prices are about twice that of the original. Second Coming Records. 235 Sullivan St. (212) 228-1313. Sullivan is in the opposite direction from both RR shops off Bleaker. CDs in one store and Vinyls in another. Next to each other. Mostly new stuff. Generations Records on Thompson St, behind Sullivan St. I've never found anything there, but others swear by it. Walk around in the same area for more shops. Also, there are a number of shops on Saint Marks Square. Worth trying. I have to wonder about that. Sure, the Demos is good (i like it) but is it _better_? Granted Go to Sleep is the best thing on both, and Build a Fire is better than the WR version but on the _whole_ I'd say WR91 is a better listen. More flow between the songs. I recall reading in the Beatles newsgroup some guy bashing bootleg buyers saying that some people just like bootlegs and B-sides because they're rare, not that they're better songs. Being a Beatleg collector from a family of Beatleg collectors this made me think. Not soon afterwards I heard _Because_ on the radio and didn't recognize it because I was so much more familiar with the a capella version (that I had long before it was released on Anthology). This came as a major shock to me and I realized I DID listen to the bootleg versions more often than the official counterparts. I can remember when TWR'91 was released, and after stealing it from the local record shop and eagerly placing it in my walkman, my first opinion (based upon the first side) was 'WOW!', but then i have to admit being disappointed with the album as a whole. (808 State's 'EX:EL' was released the same day, and i think that got more rotation ultimately). But TWR'89 is a work of pure genius, every song is accessible from the very beginning. I don't know, maybe its because WTIL and 3am were SUCH good singles that the album was bound to be a disappointment if every track wasn't like them. Anyway, this is all academic because TWR'91 was better than anything else released that year (almost!) Thanks for listening, and enjoy the show. Your best bet is to get the plain text version of the discog by emailing discogs@swcp.com with GET KLF in the body of your message and then just print that. - -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo@swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo) ::: Internet Music Wantlists: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo/Wantlists # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info klf" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email klf@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 03 Jun 1998 13:10:48 -0400 From: Decoy Subject: (klf) [Fwd: A Huge Ever Growing Time For Love - Auction] This is a multi-part message in MIME format. - --------------BED8895C322D43B03720AC38 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit sorry to everybody: http://www.globalserve.net/~decoy/ - --------------BED8895C322D43B03720AC38 Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Message-ID: <35757E0F.9CCC5009@globalserve.net> Date: Wed, 03 Jun 1998 12:47:12 -0400 From: Decoy X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.05 [en] (Win95; I) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: orb@xmission.com, klf@xmission.com CC: orbulletins@xmission.com, idm@hyperreal.org Subject: A Huge Ever Growing Time For Love - Auction Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Severe auction from the common(3AM Eternal US 12") to the rare(The Manual, white label test pressings) of all things Alex Patterson / Jimmy Cauty related. the Manual and the Orb video/CD can be found on the CD page. In the meantime, I remembered that at one point I was looking into getting copies of Mike Dutton's "KLF Complete Compilation" video done; this was at a time when Mike Dutton himself was nowhere to be seen. I've now got the equipment to copy the Complete Compilation video (except for the colour inlay) but (exactly the same situation as the CD-Rs) I don't want to undercut anyone, etc. etc. Since there was a moderate interest shown a number of months ago, I just thought I'd mention it. I have a horrible feeling I might get slated for suggesting doing this? As with the CD-Rs, I'm still not promising to do the copies as a matter of principle etc. Stuart. - -- stuart bruce @ university college of ripon & york st john . academic . united kingdom "allwedreamiscapableofrealisation"EIonesco # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info klf" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email klf@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 20:46:07 +0100 (BST) From: jon thaan mmm Subject: (klf) Anyone out there?
