The reson I mention it is my belief that two of the tracks, "The Source of Secrets" and "Secrets" (which are effectively different versions of the same track), sound a lot like the original trance version of "What Time Is Love?" in production and musical ideas. TB3 is 'based' on Ibiza, and WTIL? just turned up on another Ibiza compilation, so the link isn't entirely unjustified... I'd really like to tell all you guys 'bout last friday when Drummond did 4 hours of dancing on a table at a Swedish club, screaming that ABBA ruined him, sweating blood, and just before he collapsed said to the bartender 'Fuck the Millenium for me, will ya?' and pointing to the blonde nympho standing right beside him. I didn't hear this on the radio so don't ask for a tape of it. - -- Can Punch and Judy tame an evil dictator? Roger Law, creator of Spitting Image, last week presented the Radio 4 documentary 'Nasty, Brutish and Short', which told of the roots and enduring appeal of the Punch and Judy show. Among the interviewees were Mark Manning and Bill Drummond, formerly chart topping musicians with the KLF. As part of a conceptual art group, the K Foundation, they also attempted to give a Punch and Judy show to President Mobutu in Congo before war recently broke out. Bill Drummond: The reason for us going up the Congo was to confront the Devil, because we wanted our souls back and we reckoned that, somehow, to be armed with Punch we'd stand a better chance. Mark Manning: We reckoned, "What is the most evil place on Earth?" And it seems that Conrad's Congo still really does exist. I mean, there's cannibals up there... Drummond: We hadn't really heard of Mobutu... and somehow we felt Mobutu, maybe, is an analogy for the Devil... Manning: It was just before the whole thing exploded - I mean, you could just smell it, there were guns everywhere, bodies floating down the river and stuff. I was saying, "There's bodies in the river Bill," and he kind of thought it was some kind of burial thing - but it wasn't. Drummond: This is really patronising, thinking we could do this. For about a week we were travelling up on these barges with 4,000 other people travelling up the Congo, third class. The only white people there, we were shit scared. Anyway, we didn't bring Punch out until the second week. And the moment we took him out - and we thought they'd love him - they saw him once, and there was this little boy who just whacked him. And other people just said, "No put him away, put him away," and they would have nothing to do with it. And we had to hide them for the rest of the journey. They obviously saw these things as some sort of evil, graven images.... For them, they were all hard-line Christians. Manning: That was voodoo man, not Christianity. I mean, rattling bones and dancing and chickens flying all over, that was the most voodooesque Christianity I've ever seen. Drummond: [Punch] wasn't just some sort of archaic, weird entertainment, child-like symbolism. For them it was totally and utterly for real. Is there a web site or a mailing list somewhere on the Internet which lists the UK Radio 1 Top 40, once it has been announced on Radio 1? I never seem to get the chance to listen to Radio 1 on a Sunday any more and it would be nice to be able to keep track of chart placings and so on and so forth. Of particular interest is the chart placing of N-Trance's latest, "Paradise City". Has anyone else noticed that N-Trance don't seem to be promising a new album any more ("Paradise City" is, by my reckoning, at least the fourth single not to have come from their first album) and just seem to be deteriorating into a bad rap-cover band? Most of the back catalogue was never -released- here. Yank list completists like myself have stocked up by patronizing import record shops, ordering direct from people the UK, and in many cases, visiting the UK. I'd venture that you'll be able to find more rare stuff by hanging around this list than by scavenging in the US, where The White Room and Chill Out are typically the only things to be found in the vast majority of record stores. And don't be quick to assume that we're all in the US -- there's quite a European contingent here on the list. It is actually a remix of the Acid Brass version of "What Time Is Love." It is officially called "Version P - Royal Oak Mix" and was contained on the UK 12" (and Japanese CD5) of 2K's "***K The Millennium." Do a search for "Version P" (with the double-quotes around it) to find it. - -- Adam J Weitzman NewsEdge Corporation Welcome to my signature. http://www.newsedge.com Please wipe your feet. http://www.newspage.com # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info klf" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email klf@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Sep 1998 16:51:00 -0500 From: Don Gagen Subject: RE: (klf) What time is Panasonic? -----Original Message----- From: Christian Villum [SMTP:subwave@email.dk] Sent: Tuesday, September 08, 1998 3:38 PM To: 'klf@lists.xmission.com' Subject: (klf) What time is Panasonic?
