I've been mostly lurking for the last couple years, but tonight I thought I'd post about KLF and their connection with Jamaican music styles. A couple examples: Dave Barker sampled on "The Magnificent." This is from his big UK hit "Monkey Spanner." "No More Tears" on The White Room is basically a reggae tune, with a Jamaican singing and DJing (Jamaican term for rapping) on this one, "Justified and Ancient," and a couple others. Anyone care to talk more about this connection? As a reggae radio host, I've played "No More Tears" on a number of occasions on my show. ________________________________________________________ Message generated by Joshua B http://www.reggaesource.com/joshuab http://teriyaki.home.mindspring.com [ICQ: 11864007] [AOL IM: reggaejosh] # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info klf" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email klf@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 31 May 1999 22:42:52 -0400 From: Positive Void Communications Subject: Re: (klf) copy of original mail Message text written by "Mark Humphrey" >I'm certainly interested, but what's the possibility of a small excerpt appearing as an MP3, so that we can try before we buy? Sure - how about the Mad Professor mixes? Plus, they can get dub-ish basslines going occasionally on some of their more Orb/Space-ey tracks... In their original 1987 publicity (when they pretended to be 18 year olds from Glasgow), they said that their backing singers were "a lovers rock trio" I think, when of course their backing singers were Cressida Jimy's to be wife and Mo. (Who was Mo where did she come from, where did she go? Mu knows). The influlence is not hard to trace when you consider Jimmy lived in Stockwell (South London, right next to Brixton) for (the whole of ??) the 1980's. stuey - -- Stuart Young and Michelle Ardern, say.map@ihug.co.nz 66a Sackville Street, Tel: +64 (0)9 376 8100 Grey Lynn, Auckland, NZ Stuey's groovy new website is now open: http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/~stuey/ # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info klf" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email klf@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------ End of klf-digest V2 #218 *************************
