I found it on WinMX as an MP3 file under the name of America : What Time Is Love? (Uncensored). I didn’t realise that the KLF actually censored any of there songs anyway (what was there to censor – except ***K The Millennium?). This file is 9:01, and sounds nearly the same as the original WTIL with a few exceptions – the intro is a bit longer, an extra sample “Yeah be free, be ????”, and a list of some of the major cities in America (Maine, Dayton, etc, etc) and then at the end the following add on “Who were those guys? I mean's what’s with all this Justified ancients of mu mu shit....” Does anyone know what I have here? Is this off the new live album or something? Or is it a bootleg or original? Is it in the discography? Below are the lyrics of the song (some may be incorrect ‘cos I’m not too good at guessing lyrics) In the year of our lord 992 The Justified Ancients of mu mu Set sail in their long boats in a voyage to rediscover the lost continent After many months on perilous stormy seas There search was fruitless Just when all seemed lost they discovered... Is it in the discography? No offence, but you are joking, aren't you? "America What Time Is Love" was a bigger hit in the UK than "What Time Is Love" itself. It got to number 4 in the charts, I think. Appears all over the place. Surely any KLF fan is familiar with "America: What Time Is Love"... and the version you're talking about seems to be the version that's on the UK CD single. "Uncensored" is a tongue-in-cheek way of calling something "original mix", really- although it does contain the word "shit" at the end, which is the only potentially offensive word I've ever heard. As for "nearly the same as the original WTIL", listen again. It's got guitars, big heavy drums, massive male choir... Or did I just misunderstand your original post? I'd heard of WTIL and America:WTIL before but not this very long version. The only America:WTIL song I've got is the cassette with America:WTIL on one side and America No More on the other. No extra special mixes. > No offence, but you are joking, aren't you? "America What Time Is Love" > was a bigger hit in the UK than "What Time Is Love" itself. Also I think the version I've got is more for on the radio as most radio stations don't like playing tracks that are longer than 5 minutes (even then they try and cut a few seconds off!) > As for "nearly the same as the original WTIL", listen again. It's got > guitars, big heavy drums, massive male choir... Well it is nearly the same from the version I've got except a couple of things, 1. the length 2. the extra bits to make up the length 3. the list of states in America 4. the ending bit 5. the longer beginning bit 6. The "Yeah - be free" bit When I first heard this long version of America:WTIL the bit with the listing of states in America reminds me of Bloodhound Gang - Going Nowhere Slow, one verse in this song lists all the place's they've played in America (maybe they were influenced by America:WTIL (Uncensored) but decided to do it a little bit faster (all those states are mentioned in under 30 seconds!) Very neat discography, took me straight to the list of exactly what I was looking for. (Sorry to the people to object to a chunk of text this size being posted.) From it I would say that the mix Darren is familiar with (from the cassette) is actually the rarer version of the two, and the 'mystery version' he has just found is the version commonly found on all the European & Australian CD formats. Tonight on The Breezeblock on BBC Radio 1, Mary Anne Hobbs will be presenting a mix from the wonderful Avalanches, and they're gonna play this wicked mash up of 3am Eternal as part of it. It sounds wicked, and their mixes are always legendary, so I highly recommend tuning in. The show starts at Midnight GMT on 97-99 FM and the mix usually starts around 12:45am. Those abroad can listen online at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1 Should be storming! Pet Shop Boys vs The KLF - So hard Now I´m not sure wether or not this was before the WTIL 12" including the "vs Moody Boys" mix, though... a quite similar discussion was started on the Sunscreem Mailing List some time ago, and they also mentioned "So hard" to be the first track with a "vs". cy@ Thomas # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info klf" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email klf@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Nov 2001 07:52:02 EST From: TheMgnt@aol.com Subject: Re: (klf) Vs > Pet Shop Boys vs The KLF - So hard > =20 > Now I=B4m not sure wether or not this was before the WTIL 12" including t= he > "vs Moody Boys" mix, though... a quite similar discussion was started on=20 the > Sunscreem Mailing List some time ago, and they also mentioned "So hard" t= o > be the first track with a "vs". Interesting. Checking the Discogs, KLF vs Moody Boys (WTIL) came out in Jul= y=20 1990. So Hard was released as a single in Sept 1990. In either case it=20 confirms, unless someone can beat that date with some other group, that the=20 KLF started that trend as well. - -paul Currently in rotation: Arthur Baker - Breakin; VA - Sun Records Tribute;=20 Proclaimers - Live in Boston; FGTH - Rage Hard # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info klf" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email klf@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Nov 2001 13:52:45 +0000 From: "Steve Allan" Subject: Re:(klf) Vs from lazlo's 808 state discog: MC Tunes vs 808 State: The Only Rhyme That Bites [Jun 1990] single Chart: UK #10. 7": 1990 UK (ZTT/WEA; ZANG 3 / 9031-71670-7) CSS: 1990 UK (ZTT/WEA; ZANG 3 C) 3:41 The Only Rhyme That Bites 3:16 The Only Rhyme That Bytes 7": 1990 DE (ZTT/WEA; ZANG 3 / 9031-71670-7) 3:32 The Only Rhyme That Bites (edit) 3:16 The Only Rhyme That Bytes 12": 1990 UK (ZTT; ZANG 3 T / 9031-71671-0) [times unconfirmed] 12": 1990 UK (ZTT; ZANG 3T SAM {...3(T) A}{...3(T) AA}) [stickered promo] 12": 1990 DE (ZTT; ZANG 3 T / 9031-71671-0) [times unconfirmed] 4:28 The Only Rhyme That Bites 5:04 The Only Rhyme That Bytes (extended version) 12": 1990 DE (ZTT/WEA; 9031-71671-0) 4:17 The Only Rhyme That Bites (extended version) 5:08 The Only Rhyme That Bytes (extended version) CD5: 1990 UK (ZTT; ZANG 3 CD) [spine misprint: "...Only Name That Bites"] CD5: 1990 DE (ZTT; ZANG 3 CD / 9031-71858-2) 3:34 The Only Rhyme That Bites (7" version) 5:08 The Only Rhyme That Bytes (extended version) 4:17 The Only Rhyme That Bites (extended version) VHS: 1990 UK (ZTT/Warner; n/a) [promo; ps(!)] - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - -- The JAMs Are Gonna Tattoo Ya http://www.oldskool.uk.co/ # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info klf" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email klf@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. # KLF discography: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo-bin/discogs?klf ------------------------------ End of klf-digest V2 #495 *************************
